I'm pretty sure that type of bacon is known as "Canadian bacon" in the USA. Try asking for that next time.

Love it either by itself, on a sandwich or on a cheeseburger. Plus I have to cook it. No one else I know gets it to that "just right" between crispy and chewy.

You can get uncured bacon, although it's harder to find. You may have problems with the preservatives.

I'm on a carb-restricted paleo diet, so I get lots of bacon, and I love it. I'm getting better at cooking it so that my housemate will eat it--he doesn't like it rock-solid the way I sometimes do. I like to make bacon then saute some mushrooms in the fat and make omelets for breakfast/lunch. (We eat larger meals at wider intervals than most people.) It's good stuff and will keep you happily non-hungry for HOURS without making you feel bloated and stuffed.

Yes, "Canadian bacon". Which, while good, is not at all the same as the regular bacon we eat in the U.S. You can also try "capocolla ham" which is very similar, but a bit spicier I believe.
