Well if you think about it, he was trying to bind his power with the planet by hurting it badly, effectively killing all the humans on it. The planet would then heal itself, and without the humans there to use up all it's power, it would be healthier than ever.

In the long run, Cloud and his gang were the bad guys.

True, but in Advent Children he explicitly states that the next step was to literally kill the planet in order to "sail the dark cosmos, with this planet as (his) vessel" in order to eradicate the rest of the universe. As far as evil plans go, that's pretty high up there.

In terms of gaming I'd have to say Dr Breen. He's a suave, charismatic, extremely evil man. And the voice acting combined with the animation and modelling shows the perfect asshole.

Although the only Resident Evil game I have ever played is number 5, he still holds a place in my heart.

If you liked 5, play 4. Resident Evil 4 did virtually everything 5 did first, but better, especially on the Wii.
Also, play the originals. Unnecessary information, but I have the Resident Evil Director's cut with the Resident Evil 2 Leon (AKA. Good) disc.
Just...just play the series is what I'm trying to get at here.
