Bad personal experiences with women = justification for sexism and misogyny?

So, I've seen a lot of threads lately that bring up gender-related issues, and many people have made sexist (particularly towards misogyny) comments, then rationalize them with their own, personal experience.
The world population is about equally divided between men and women. So why is it that someone could define half of all people in the world as being the same as one person they've met?
I know there are plenty of both decent and unpleasant men, with a whole range inbetween dispite my many bad experiences with the male sex, through my own personal experience. So, is there something I'm missing, or am I trying to rationalize the irrational?

(Sure, there is misandry in the world, too, but I've never seen any serious accounts of that here.)

I'd say this, unfortunately.

Those who negatively lump a group of people together (Be they separated by gender, race, religion, or whatever) based on the experience of a single person (Or even a small amount of people) are completely irrational.
It doesn't makes sense, and it's just plain bigotry.

What about women that have had a bad experience with men, and become sexist over that? Same thing

Yeah, I noticed that too. Never said anything, as I have NO experience of my own though.

Having never experienced something "bad" with a woman that I could concievably believe to be typical of the gender, I don't understand mysogyny (or androgyny) based on personal experiences. I'm really as interested in knowing as you are.

Yes you are. Men and women both have bad experiences. Most (the rational ones) blow it off as the person being a [Colorful Metaphor]. Everyone like to complain about the incident though and a few take it as law.

I think Matt Groening was right "With love, all men are stupid, all women are crazy"

People do these kinds of things all the time, lump any group of people in together just because a minority have done something negative to them. But the people who do this in my opinion are blind to the fact that everyone is an individual, and you can't group any gender, race or creed together. So I suppose yeah, it is just people being as irrational as ever (whoops I kind of made a generalisation myself).

Uh... Because women are evil, and their only joy comes from destroying a man completely. I thought that was obvious...? Oh, and they like shopping for shoes. Who the hell wants to spend anymore more than 20 minutes buying shoes? I just barely want to wear shoes, and then when I do, I require the most comfortable kind possible. Then I see a woman who's been shoe shopping for two hours, and just bought a pair of shoes that look so excruciatingly painful that I nearly pass a kidney stone just looking at them. I couldn't even come close to comprehending this. So I fell over, hit my head, and at that moment I understood that a woman's only joy comes from destroying a man completely. Case closed.

That kinda reminds me of that saying "All generalisations are inaccurate".
About 80% percent of all generalisations are made up.

I haven't found that people become misogynists after just one bad experience in most cases, but I do know that if someone has an abusive on non-present mother they will tend to be hateful towards women. This is because the one woman that really sets people's first impressions of women is the mother. So if she is abusive, people subconsciously expect all women to be abusive. So instead of lashing back at their mother, an authority figure, they lash out at the other women around them, projecting the problems they have with their mother onto other women. But then, that only explains one reason for people being misogynists. Other times, people group things in their head to make it easier to comprehend. The human mind does it to make things less complex, and sometimes that means grouping together people that really shouldn't be grouped. But asking why people are sexist is like asking why people are racist. There's many possible reasons for both, but it doesn't mean it's right. You said it yourself, you're trying to rationalize the irrational.

Here's what I find a lot, Depends on the group now as far as in gaming sub culuture I think, In any area where males domiant there is a sense of a male club where they can be bitter and project unto women around them. Why I heard being a female trucker can be tough at times as well.

However everyone ends up in a area with peers, So if 80% of them are bitter towards women it enables that behavior as they all support each other in their viewpoints. Another sad but true case it seems and it happens with everyone.

A example is I once knew a older deaf guy who hated any hearing person based solely on how he was treated growing up,Now I have had many good experiences dealing with some hearing people but I can understand that back in early 50's being deaf was still a huge stigma in society so I can see where that bitterness can come from. Why I hope myself to create some kind of example for other mute people in society. Who at times also fall under the eye of some deaf people for being hearing.

I think there is sadly not much to do to help someone is just spiteful and bitter towards a group or sub-culture just because of their past experiences.

Everyone wants to be better or more individualistic than the other sex. I mean when people say women are bad drivers thats good because it means i'm a good driver. I mean the logic is there but it dosent make it correct or right.

No personal bad experience is an excuse for bigotry. By all means, hate the one person who did that thing that you hated, but don't hate anyone who shares a slight similarity with them, that just makes you stupid.

I know a lot of women who, after being sexually attacked by men, have become man-hating lesbians. No, hate male rapists, don't hate the entire sex.

If you hate someone because of what they've done, don't let it become hatred of what you think they are, otherwise you'll usually end up tarring others with the same brush.

(EDIT) I kinda said something that didn't quite make sense there, but yeah I completely agree with the above.
