Haven't we had this thread a bunch of times before?

Anyhow, here is a website with a repository of terrible video game voice acting:
http://www.audioatrocities.com/

On the right side of the screen is their top 5 worst. And they are bad.

Now I find all of the black people in Still Life to be offensively terrible. For example, the opening scene with the cop. Start at 9:30.
Someone should tell the Canadians that black people from Chicago down sound like that.

Okay, just... What kind of game is that? And why does it have Karen, Yuri and Nicolai from the first two Shadow Hearts games in it? My lawsuit senses are tingling.

On topic, a list of games with bad voice acting:

- Soul Calibur -> everyone
- Final Fantasy -> mainly Tidus (FF X), Vaan and Penelo (FF XII) and Vanille (FF XIII)
- Star Ocean -> in the fourth one, there's a character that keeps saying "kay" at the end of her sentences. She must die.
I did a little snooping, and this is what I found:

"Chaos Wars is a crossover between several companies' role-playing video game series, including Aruze's Shadow Hearts, Atlus's Growlanser, Idea Factory's Blazing Souls, Spectral Souls, and RED Entertainment's Gungrave and Shinsengumi Gunraw Den."
HOW DID I NOT KNOW OF THIS?!

* Off to wikipedia *

Oh... because it didn't get released in Europe, figures.
And it looks like the scores it got aren't all that hot either.

I'm a little bummed now.

The laugh scene from Final Fantasy X, so bad I wanted to pick up my old TV and throw it right out the window.
To be fair, that scene is equally awful in Japanese(skip to 7:25)

Oh my ears, he sounds like a rooster. This is the rare example where the english is better than the japanese, at least the english version doesn't sound like that.

I have tried to play as manshep once. I was left wondering why he doesn't describe every emotion at the beginning of a sentence like an elcor.

I'm gonna use a game as an example, but it can apply to anything so I thought to post it in off-topic. Anyway...

I was fiddling around on the settings on Street Fighter x Tekken and saw English language options for the Tekken characters that usually only speak Japanese. Nothing could prepare me for the horrors that awaited:

Asuka [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=0m0s]
Heihachi [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=1m8s]
Kazuya [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=1m35s]
Jin/Xiaoyu [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=2m35s]

Why?! Why have they done this?! They're awful! Dammit Capcom! D:
0_o I thought most of those were quite good or at least entertaining, but then again I don't have anything to compare them to.
Do you not play Tekken? I guess they're not too awful if you don't know what the Japanese voices are like. It was the shock of hearing them talk in English that made it worse for me.
No I don't play Tekken. I'm not big on Fighting games. I've played a few, but the Tekken series is not among them. So yeah, like I said I don't have anything to compare it to, I haven't heard the Japanese voices.
It's the same thing when I hear really stuck up elitist Anime fans complain about the voices in dubbed anime. Many of the dubs I've seen have featured some great performances, or at least I thought so; but then I haven't watched the original subbed version so I don't have much to compare it to. After all I hate reading subtitles and I prefer to watch things in my own language.

EDIT: Oh um... no offense intended, if you like subbed anime.
Hey man, each to their own. There's some anime that I just can't watch in English, others where I don't mind either way and others where I love the English dub. DBZ is a good example; I think the Japanese VAs are great but I love the English VAs more.
Of course. I was mostly referring to the uber-stuck up elitist types who shun everyone who doesn't like they same things they do.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the infamous Bible Black.

I'd probably say anything from 4kids though.
That shit's just shameful.

At least he's not stuck in a permanent grumpy voice mode.

OT: Recently, Chobot in Mass Effect 3. Considering the rest of the voice acting is pretty damn good, she sticks out like a sore thumb. Who can't act. Who also looks stupid.

This. So much this. What was up with that?

And Vanille from Final Fantasy 13. What the hell was she going for with that accent? Is that some sort of half-assed Australian with some Swedish or something? WHAT WAS THAT?

While we're on great voice actors, I'm siding with the Jennifer Hale love. The only reason I play as male shep is because of my first playthru. Every other playthru has been femmeshep, and I've played ME2 numerous times. The only person who could top her? I can only hope we get a lead for a non-anime-based video game voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Or Crispin Freeman. Hell, anyone from the english cast of "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" get a free pass.

I have to agree with the general consensus surrounding Jessica Chobot in Mass Effect 3. I was always trying to be nice to Chobot through this and was prepared to give her a chance but jesus she just isn't an actress.
Her voice mixes between self concious and awkward and monotone as she boredly lists all the things you've done with very little actual emotion. While all the other characters are well performed and really sound like they are part of a story, Chobot really does just sound like she's reading a script.
I haven't yet played Mass Effect 3 but I've seen a lot of scenes on youtube, after watching the Ashley romance scene where she went through a range of emotions (flirty, supportive, determined, soft, flirty again and then relaxed) it's mindblowing to then watch the Diana Allers video where she just robotically talks about all Shepard's achievements and then tries to flirt while also sounding awkward and confused.
She's just totally out of place and it really shows. I just want to know who thought it was a good idea to put her in the game.
It's one thing to add Yvonne Strahowski as blatant nerd bait because at least she is a practised proffessional actress who has worked on television and movies in the past, but I just don't understand why Chobot is even in the game.
Granted it doesn't matter so much, it's not like my Shepard will notice given how much time he'll be chatting up Ashley but still it's just such a wierd thing to suddenly add out of the blue like that.

I mean no offence to Miss Chobot but if she ever decided to voice act again, she should spend some time learning about the art of voice acting ahead of time.

It would be great if he actually HAD a grumpy voice mode...

Yeah Chobot's character is a horror it looks like they got the work experience guy to make her within ten minutes. Her voice kind of trails off weirdly at the end of sentences.

I don't talk to that character much.
