I find FPSs are the richest in strategy. Realism DoD or clan CSS etc etc (especially realism DoD... are they all occupying one building, watching the streets below or are they camped out in defendable positions dotted along the street itself... who knows until someone gets blown away?).

I personally find it annoying when all people care about is their ranking or win/loss ratio. When that is your greatest concern you have missed the point.

I thought I was the only one who thought that way about RTS-multiplayer. I posted almost exactly the same thing on another forum and was basically called an idiot because they were huge SC2 fans. Employing one out of 4 or 5 builds you found on forums isn't "strategy" and even the creation of those builds basically boils down to math (build order efficiency, speed and whatnot). I get how it's an entertaining exercise for that type of nerd, but nobody should pretend it's anything more than that.

Speaking of Blizzard, Diablo 2 has a similar problem, but less severe. It is the reason why I rarely ever played on Battle.net: If your character build isn't "right" you're a waste of space. But I *love* odd character builds. So I either play alone, or with the 2 or 3 people I know that either don't mind or aren't very good at D2 either.

Which gets us to FPSs. Yes, there are things that work better than others, but since pointing the right way and shooting is the most important part of a (good, proper) FPS, the impact of the "right" loadout or whatever is lessened.
I still hate TF2 though, because there, now, everything either kills you instantly or randomly, no matter what you do. Well, sort of...

Obligatory 'topic relevant' comment: Me and my best friend play MvC3 fairly often. Do we sit there for hours and hours every day, training to make sure we're 'Pros' and beat everyone at the game? No! We just there and mash buttons, and know what? It's fun!

FPS: This is probably the least affected in the bunch, depending on circumstances within the game. I'm sure that many people who play FPSes know that some guns, setups, equipment, etc is considered to be 'optimal', even if everything in the game is perfectly balanced and you become a 'scrub' to the opposing players if you use even a single part of the 'optimal' setup and run the risk of being kicked/banned by the host. So, say you use become a 'scrub' to your own team if you don't use the entire layout. Actually, there are many, many servers/rooms/etc whose host will kick you from the room if you aren't doing it the 'right' way.
Isn't that the way you're supposed to play a MvC game. That's how me and my friends always play.
I never play it online though.

So those times that I end up poping out of a fps game online it's because of my guns & equip and not because of how crappy psn & twc are?

I still play games for fun, and even if I was a "pro" (and how many of them are there in the world really), I think I still would.

I thought this topic was about how games are becoming so serious and (sometimes) pretentious.
