I was such a goth kid it was unreal!
But I was also poor, so I couldn't really afford the threads or piercings or anything. I was stuck with whatever black clothes drifted my way.
That's also when I went through my black metal phase.
lol
Looking back I can't believe how into all of that I was.

"Goths" are a laughable group of idiots, and gigantic hypocrites. If you ever go and label yourself as a "goth" then you're just putting yourself into a group of snooty elitist assholes, which is what I thought the "goth" movement was against.

And in case you're wondering why I keep typing it as "goth", it's because these stupid fucking kids with their egos don't even know what the fuck a Goth really is. Here's a hint:READ A FUCKING HISTORY BOOK YOUR PREPPY LITTLE SHITS.

I dress in all black, with long matted hair, a trenchcoat, combat boots, trip pants, band-T, top hat, and don't shower enough.... I don't like taking on labels though.... Especially because I am also a gamer. Some people have called me goth, but honestly it just would feel fake and cheap to choose a label for my self.

OT: there are quite a few metal heads and scene kids at my school... Not a lot of Goths though.

EDIT:

Some people ask if I'm goth. I only wear black clothes because it's pretty much the only thing I look good in, and I also have this very fancy looking quiksilver jacket (which I can't even find looking it up on the internet) that is basically a suit jacket, flashy silver buttons with skulls on them, inside is black, white and red, 2 front breast pockets which are barely noticeable, an inside pocket, zippers on the side (at the bottom), and giant cuffs. Which makes me sound like an emo git, but on me it looks pretty cool.

I had a sort of similar experience between seventh grade and sophomore year. I grew my hair way long, started listening to metal, and never looked back.

When I finally did look back, I noticed that I had become a huge douchebag and hung up the hair, and the metal (for the most part), for what I am today. A geek who focuses a majority of his time on one of the things he connected with during his time as a metalhead, listens to hip-hop a whole lot, and is, in general, a lot kinder person.

Oh, I also cut my hair.

I got somewhat emo in middle school, but it evened out. Now I'm pretty well rounded, actually, but obviously still nerdy relative to any non-internet user.

its funny cause i just read through all these posts, and apparently theres a regional difference in definition. but anywho, where im from if you wore all black and you werent a preppy kid you were considered a goth. didnt matter if there was an in-between category of emo along with it, you were just a goth. also the group i hung out with werent the excluding type unless you tried to rape someone.

oh?..but what if you were preppy an tried to rape?

I mean i havent raped, no siree, no raping here *hides bodies*

and, i fit more into the "music kid" category..or whatever it's called >_>

listened to dark music
No offense, but how is some music "dark"?
See, dark music to me is like the spooky Pink Floyd (Careful with That Axe, most of The Wall, Welcome to the Machine, etc.) but to some people it's inaudibley distorted guitars with shouting over the top and fast, yet amateur drumming somewhere in the mix.

Always thought the whole goth thing was silly. Never understood why anybody would actually try to be unhappy.

One of my best friends would be considered part of the goth subculture. However, he hates the elitism associated with it. Apparently a lot of them are stuck-up pricks. He's got me into a lot of good music too, EBM and Industrial stuff.

It's hard to know now who the posers are and who are actual goths :(
Many people mislabel us for evil, massacre related retards just because we are different persons and dress differently than them.
And now there are lots of poser goths who misunderstood the concept of goth and became bad people just because they think the evil "goth" look is really cool. (I hope you undestand this)

The real goth is an individualistic and open-minded person who is creative, compassionate about the beauty of darker things, and passionate about gothic music. It might not be really enough, but the ways of the gothic subculture is so complex that even we can't express it in full words.

We just love being us :)

So, you lost the Goth Game(tm) too, eh? Here I am, 37 years old, still into Goth/Industrial music... Why would I stop when the bands I like are still putting out CDs?

Ughh... No one cares.

No one cares if you were a gothic child in your past... What matters is the present and the future, if that even matters at all.

I could post a long existential rant about the pointlessness of cliques and what-not... But no... In the end, it won't even matter. Hell, I don't even know why I'm posting in this pointless thread... it adds nothing to the completely shallow discussion.
All threads are pointless.
Except maybe that one about catching that pedophile...

Still, I wear a lot of black, and I do have an apreciation for NIN'n such, but by no means am I goth.
Oh if you're a goth you're not actually allowed to like NIN. It's one of the "rules". Seriously.

Goths hate NIN because he is seen as commercialising industrial music and if there's one thing goths look down on it's being popular with people outside of their social clique. Goths are very snobby and like to be an exclusive club wearing their badge of "you don't understand me".

You obviously know nothing of the subculture if you say there are rules to being a Goth. Goths can listen to anything they want, a lot of them are not snobby. I know a few that are really happy fun people to be with, even if you are not goth. They don't act like they people don't understand them. They express themselves in a different way. They aren't stuck up or snobby. They don't care about the popularity of bands. I know of a Goth who still listens to Britney Spears. Yes they have their own clubs. So what? It's just a place to hang out with other people with some of the same interests. It isn't a social clique, it is a subculture. Granted there are some stuck up snobby people in the subculture. There is snobby people in almost everything! Don't say what goth is if you don't really know, or are not goth.
