I've always loved a band called Counting Crows, though every time I mention them I receive blank and confused stares.
I like the Counting Crows I have a few of their albums...

OT: The British band Boa... they're a lot like the Cranberries just a bit more indie and experimental...
oh yeah and The Electric Six...

Didn't they make a song about a parking lot or something. I liked them.
No, that wasn't them. They covered a song about a parking lot though. Sometimes it's a generation gap, Counting Crows were Billboard hits.

Has anyone ever heard of the Frozen Embryos?

Thanks to my line of work I could name thousands of bands here that nobody has heard of... but I'd rather keep it that way. There's a good reason why people haven't heard of a lot of music - because a lot of it's not really worth hearing about.
What's wrong with you? ALL music is worth hearing, just not by everyone.
Trust me, there is plenty of music that should never be heard by anybody. Be thankful that there are people like me out there who are able to vet such stuff out of public channels before it gets to your ears.
I honestly can't think of any type of music that does not deserve to be heard of. If that group composed a work of music, they clearly want it to be heard because they are contributing to the medium.

As for your occupation, that's one of the most terrible stands on the medium I have ever heard. YOU may believe that you are doing others a favor but that's only according to YOUR standards.

...And that is why I absolutely hate the music industry. No offense to you of course, but yeah that includes your occupation. I well understand it's not easy, but it's still a terrible job from the perspective of music as an art.

As I said, this is just coming from an "art/medium" point of view, not the "money making/commercial success" point of view.

One band that I have a hard time finding fans for is Radio Moscow. Not a lot of people in my area seem to know them, but they're awesome. A great mix of blues and psychedelic rock. Modern too, I might add.

I'd like to note here that THESE GUYS ARE THE SHIT! I love their music.

Hm, well a couple that get me just by how universally awesome their music is:

The Airborne Toxic Event, just amazing lyrics, and pretty solid guitar too.

Pendulum, the best vaguely electronic sound that I've heard. Especially their new stuff, which has a lot more of a fast beat rock kind of feel, but it seems like nobody knows who they are :(

Yellowcard!!! Great band and even really popular, but still nobody seems to know who they are.

OT: My acquaintances don't seem to have heard of Modest Mouse.
^I know that is probably grammatically butchered, but ATM I CBA to fix it. Sorry.

Ash.

They did the song "Clones" but none of my friends have ever heard of them. Pretty Rocking song though.

Nice. Good song.
Thanks. I just want to help more people notice these guys. Their music is great.

Some hippy chick named Joni Mitchell. I heard the original once, it's pretty good and more or less the same (but different).

I didn't listen to a lot of the song, but it has the sort of tone I like, so I'll be sure to listen more tomorrow.
Scratch that. Took the time to listen to it all. Sweet song.

It's not that there's any particular type of music that doesn't deserve to be heard, it's the specific execution of that type of music that shouldn't be heard.

Yes, of course the artist wants it to be heard. However, if I don't think it should be, then I won't enable that process. No I'm not judging it by my standards, I'm judging it by the standards of other people. If an artist doesn't meet the standards that other people have, that they want to hear, then I'm not going to put it out there to be consumed by others because they're not going to want it. It doesn't matter how "good" it is in their eyes or whether they consider it a worthwhile artistic expression or whatever - it's just a waste of fucking money to do anything with something that nobody is going to want. If they're really that passionate about it and want to take their risk on their own, that's wonderful - they're quite welcome to put it out themselves and see what happens. However I'm not going to jeopardise careers by sinking time and money into something which I can tell straight off the bat isn't going to appeal to anyone except the actual artists, their families and drinking buddies. It's not like I get funding from some altruistic non-profit body to do this kind of thing.

Also, you'd quickly recant your "everything deserves to be heard" stance if you heard the incredibly low quality of some of the stuff I get sent. Next time you're reading some hate thread concerning some popular musician which it's cool for trendy internet nihilists to throw stones at, think of this - that's the stuff that passed the vetting process, for every one like that there were a hundred more that got rejected because they weren't as good...

Damn, thanks OP! These guys are awesome... for a huge fan of Floyd this a great find.

A bit more on topic... Faunts. Canadian indie rock band that no one ever seems to know about. I suspect a good few of you will know them because they did the credits for mass effect 1 but out in the land that is not the Escapist? Blank stares all around.

Very well, you justified your stand on this.

No hard feelings right? Just wanted to express my point of view, it was never a petty and aggressive response.

You're quite welcome. Faunts sounds sound pretty cool, too.
