Cradle of Filth. They get a ridiculous amount of hate, despite being what people who hate on some bands I'll mention later seem to be saying metal should be. And frankly, the dark edge rather than just loud and fast (although there's plenty of that too) is a nice change.
Disturbed. Hated for the vocals mainly, but frankly I think with the music they're making the vocals fit perfectly.
Slipknot. Often called "emo" by people who think that the misanthropy in their songs is of the "wah, pay attention to me!" variety. It's more likely of the "shock everyone by saying the entire species is shit" variety. Similar, but a little more "fuck you", and less "fuck my life".

Recently I've gone into a phase where I like ugly and grating sounding music, so I'm listening to brokeNCYDE, some speedcore stuff (but most of it is still way below it's potential), Insane Clown Posse, The Devil Wears Prada, and The Jonas Brothers (HA! I couldn't resist).

I like a lot of different types of music and bands so I run into this a lot but the one that I keep coming across that keeps surprising me is Eazy-E. Everyone I know doesn't like him. At all. I'm more of a casual fan of him but the backlash I get from even mentioning his name is always a surprise for me.

But yeah, seeing as I listen to either rap, metal or screamo crunk, in any given situation I'll be able to piss off the general consensus. Which is awesome, I am an extremely accomplished irl music troll, especially as it normally turns out I know way more about metal than the people who hate on me for diggin' brokencyde!
