Nickelback fandom

Yep. I can't stand Nickleback. Terrible band. Nothing against you, of course. You can't help your taste in music, so there's really no point in persecuting you over it. We can still be polite, after all.

That said, I've never listened to Nickleback in my life, and can't say I want to.

I have almost all of Nickelback's CDs mostly because I do like a lot of their music. But the stuff that gets played mostly is the bullshit that shouldn't have been made. I mean rather than have them release 5 CDs with 3 CDs worth of good/decent music they should of just released the 3 CDs worth of good/decent music.

OT: I think the hate on Linkin Park because they aren't what they were in their first 2 CDs.

I have to agree with you on the Lady Gaga thing but I ahve a reason to hate her. A friend of mine PRAISES her every chance she gets. Yeah Gaga has SOME decent/good songs but I just could care less because shes not my cup of tea but my friend can't take a hint so I have gotten into the bad habit of walking out/changing the station/channel if her music starts playing.

Many Death Metal bands avoid writing conventional verse-chorus songs. I could name so many good Death Metal bands that do something. Then there is a whole fucking genre dedicated to avoid conventional structure, Progressive Metal and Progressive Rock,, then there is Post Rock, also quite anti conventional then there is Jazz music, particularly Free Jazz, particularly Free Jazz, improvisation based, quite a few Black Metal bands avoid conventionality within their structure too, oh and i forgot mention Classical Music.

It seems like there are many capable musicians, and genres dedicated to breaking conventional song-writing, or atleast innovating a little bit, there are musicians from every genre who innovate.

But the biggest problem with slipknot, is they innovated NOTHING, and get praise for it!?!?!

LOL, a song consisting solely on screaming inelligble lyrics is innovation? You're talking about tastes and when I hear death metal I hear pointless screaming over a sometimes pretty good instrumental. I remember one video where it was really great then just blasted with screams that was terrible. That's my taste, (I like nymphetamine by COF and Dethklok if you can even call that death metal.) The "whole genre dedicated to avoid conventional structure" is complete bs. If there are multiple bands lumped in to a genre their music by definition is conventional: conforming or adhering to accepted standards, as of conduct or taste. Genre's have standards you need to meet to be considered of that genre. And if you listen to Slipknot's different albums their music has evolved or atleast tried different genre's. I hate their latest album, but it's the only band that I like that I've seen droves of people devote hours to hating.

Beleive me, You hear alot out of the newer generation people and the metal heads. Thos people into rap, hip hop, Metal always say they are just being crybabies, to say the least.

Alot of the hate stems from the supposed child molestation cases, which would be acceptable if they were true in the first place. The first lad, Jordy I think (might have been Gavin, I get the 2 mixed up), his dad accepted the out of court settlement. Now, this goes out to anyone with kids here: Would you accept the money or would you want to see the guy that did it rot in jail?
Second kid, his mother had a history of using him to lie. Somebody like Michael would be an easy target as a big star wouldnt want to be dragged through the embarrasment of those accusations and would settle out of court.

Anyway, the guy covered pretty much every genre of music and brought the world some kick ass songs like Smooth Criminal, Black and White, Scream, Billie Jean and of course, Thriller

I think the person who made this meant bands hated for music. Hating MJ the person, and MJ the musician, is two totally different things. I know people who wont talk about MJ under threat of death, but own his CDs.

But songwriting and influences vary from band to band.

Death Metal bands evolve too, they incorporate Classical Music, Jazz Fusion, Progressive Rock, Punk, Grindcore, Avant Garde and even Atonality into their music.

Im convinced now that youve never listened to a Death Metal album, and im not even sure how you can judge Death Metal based on a few songs.

But hey their not writing verse-chorus angst music like slipknot, their like a pop band under the guise of metal-esque guitars.

Never said death metal bands didn't evolve I said I didn't like screaming, probably not clearly. Have you listened to either of Slipknots first 2 albums? I'll meet you half-way tell me one of your favorite death metal albums, one that is close to the opposite of what you think I have falsely attributed to death metal. Or, a selection of favorite songs from different bands.

If I've never listened to real death metal I wouldn't want to pass up on an entire sub-genre when I like the main genre = ). (Not saying Slipknot is metal as I've seen it change many times and the majority imo would be more like hard rock, then again anytime you say a genre for slipknot someone will call you wrong.)

Also, I'm interested in what you mean by verse-chorus angst music? I'm thinking of songs that involve only chorus like Lincoln Park's The Catalyst which is 3 chorus verses repeated, which I can admit to seeing a few times. I'm not butt-hurt, I expressed my opinion like you did.

My choice is going to have to be...Nickelback. They're the definition of generic rock, I'll grant you, but I still think the hate against them is borderline absurd. Plus, god save me, I do love "Into the Night" and "If Today Was Your Last Day"

Can't bag on them too much. If he can play and sing the chorus to Sad but True than he can play and sing the verse to The Four Horseman. I dunno why he left it out.

Finally, I think I'd say Metallica receives a lot of crap even though they don't deserve it. Sure, they're a sinking ship right now, and Loaded - Reloaded and even The Black Album weren't the best Metallica had to offer, but live they still kick ass, and just as long as they don't get a shitty producer for the new album, I think it's going to be pretty good.

As far as quality goes, I would say Death Magnetic is their only poor album. Every other album had artistic inspiration and integrity. DM is basically just forced thrash metal. I'd rather listen to Kenny G play what's in his heart than anything forced.

And KINGS OF LEON should have there rock star status revoked. When you get payed VERY WELL to hold and pluck strings for a living AND have intercourse with lots of women because of said string plucking, if a pigeon goes doodie in you mouth you still have to stay on stage. That's a rule, it's in the handbook, and they broke it.
