Basically this is a thread about a band or bands you may have liked until something they did, said or some other form of information concerning them came to light that made you lose respect for or possbly hate them.

I'll go ahead and list a few...

I liked Green Day until... the album Warning came out. After hearing that pile of crap over and over at a seasonal job I took (I won't say where but I hate myself for working there) I could never listen to another Green Day song ever again.

I liked Metallica until... St. Anger was released. Sure I didn't agree with their bitchiness over Napster... but when they released St. Anger, I realized then that these guys had lost the magic, the touch... whatever it was that made them metal was gone.

I liked Megadeth until... I met Dave Mustaine and found out what a real asshole he is.

So there are some examples...

Metallica, I could endure St. Anger, but now...
YES YOUR THE TABLE I GET IT
Just when you think they're lyrics couldn't be worse.

That... has to be a joke. Just has to be.

As for me, it was Porcupine Tree. I don't even really remember what it was. I think one of them said something obnoxious and arrogant. Whatever it was made me hear their music as "I'm trying to get laid through song" music.

Haven't listened to them in a couple years, though. Maybe it was a weird phase?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.

I used to like Nightwish until I found out Tuomas Holopainen has some sort of twisted hardon for Walt Disney. Also if anyone starts that whole Tarja vs Anette thing again I will come round your house with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes and beat the snot out of you, ala J&SBSB. Fact.

Pop music... just pop music... everyone listened to it as a kid because they didn't know any better... but now that I hear how shallow and artistically bankrupt it is I just stopped listening to the radio... though there's still some stuff I pull out of the 90's for nostalgia purposes...<.<

though I do like Fastball...<.<

I liked Green Day untill they started beating a dead horse with their rock protest songs.

I lost a large amount of respect for Dance gavin Dance until they threw Kurt out, just to get Johnny Craig back. He left the band in the first place, why would you want him back? Thats just crappy, In my opinion.

I kinda don't get exactly what people are harping on about really...

I mean... I get that loony political affiliations and what have you can make you think that the artists themselves are mental or terrible people or what have you, but thats kinda irrelevant if you still like their music.

Even radical shifts in sound that make you rage at new material doesn't stop you liking the stuff that you liked to begin with.

It's really weird to me to be not liking music that you once did because of things that are not connected with that music. Particularly the guy above me who is set to abandon Tool if they put out another 'average' album. Jesus. A song is a song, and if you like it why does anything else matter ? Yes, its disappointing when artists don't make exactly the kind of music we hope they will, or when people we idolize turn out to be crazy/retarded, but that doesn't in any way diminish the music you like.

Just about every important artist in history has been through radical shifts in style and a fairly large number of them ended up going insane and gibbering at passing strangers, and yet, their work is what it is.

IMHO, if you genuinely love any music then the people who make it or the subsequent disappointments are immaterial. If however you are one of those people who think that your musical tastes in some sense define you as a person, then yeah, I guess I can see why you would want to distance yourselves from artists you no longer see as being quite so cool, even to the extent of disowning music you once loved because you think that listening to would be harmful to your credibility based on the subsequent releases and views of the artists.

How would you explain their line "Why cry when angels deserve to die?" in "Chop Suey"? Taking lines out of context aside, perhaps "Science" is just a commentary on the short-comings of science? How its ostensible promise of leading us into a new and better world is slightly undercut when you consider the horrors humanity has had to endure ever since the advent of the modern age? Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?

Just throwing that out there, feel free to agree or disagree. Honestly, System aren't even that good in my opinion, so you not listening to them certainly isn't much of a loss as far as I'm concerned. That being said, if there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's rash decisions!

yeah..what this guy said

I find it funny that there is a certain type of music thats pretty much the only type of music "universally" youre allowed to liek (bob dylan..beatles) Ive never liked that stuff, also I actually cant bring myself to like it because I feel like some pretentious hipster douche (I do like johnny cash though)

but yeah, I listen to music because I like it...

I hope you mean when they got rid of Kurt? Otherwise your statement doesn't make sense. And if that's what you mean then yeah, I kinda agree. I mean, Johnny is really annoying, especially on some live shows. Though DTBM2 is pretty damn good, I kinda miss their self-titled sound. It will always be one of my all-time favourite albums.

As for bands I've lost respect for, I can't really name any. I mean, I've moved on from bands, gotten over them, but never lose respect for.

Samael / "Reign of Light" album.
Songs are too similiar to earlier albums, there's no passion in the voice, and style... And to think that's the same band that gave us "Worship Him" or "Passage" albums. :|

Avenged Sevenfold, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen are AMAZING albums, then City of Evil came out...and it was all downhill from there.

I mean how do you go from this:

to this??

I'm not that current with bands because they usually onla have a small percentage of stuff I like.

But the two that really stand out:
- Metallica when they came back... you should have done that, leave on a good note and stay there
- Linkin Park when... I don't really know what happened, they remade something with Jayz, then they went increasingly mushy and ended up in some pop-emo bullshit...

It's why I just get the best shit and scram, all the rest of my favorite bands may suck right now but I wont ever haveto hear about it, all is well in my world :D
