Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?

For me, it's Green Day, Sum 41, and Punk music in general.
I liked Green Day until the last album came out. It was so terrible in my opinion, I forgot what it was called. But then again, I recently listened to American Idiot, and it sounded like crap as well. Maybe my taste changed as I grew into an adult?

The same can be said about all punk bands in the 90's and early 2000's.

The exceptions for me are Social Distortion and Rancid. They still sound great, and Blink 182's self-titled album still holds up solidly. Their other stuff, though, kinda sounds like whatever crap bands like Good Charlotte or whatever cookie-cutter punk band churns out these days.

Damn, I feel old.

Now on to Metallica,
I think Metallica is probably the greatest band ever. They're up there with the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, RHCP, and AC/DC. In my opinion, Death Magnetic was my favorite album from them. If not, it's pretty damn close to Puppets. Their latest album with Lou Reed left me wondering what the hell was going on in their heads. But great bands mess up from time to time. Remember Zeppein's "Presence" album? Or Rolling Stones' "Dirty Work"?

Not really, I mean currently business is pretty stuck up in sciences shit but that is more since money is involved and business wants to have the latest stuff and prevent new stuff that might harm it, for instance oil companies have donated lots of cash to colleges so they wont put quite as much effort into energy sources that might be less oil company friendly.

When I was younger I used to like Breaking Benjamin. Then when they released We Are Not Alone I started pulling away and just hated what I heard from Phobia too much to give the album any attention.

Another band I used to like was Atreyu until they released Lead Sails and Paper Anchors.

I kinda don't get exactly what people are harping on about really...

I mean... I get that loony political affiliations and what have you can make you think that the artists themselves are mental or terrible people or what have you, but thats kinda irrelevant if you still like their music.

Even radical shifts in sound that make you rage at new material doesn't stop you liking the stuff that you liked to begin with.

This is pretty much the view I subscribe to, and I can't think of many bands at all where I've liked their work, then learned something about them that made me hate everything they've ever done.

There are tons of bands that have done things that made me go cold on them, but I still listen to the previous stuff that I like. For example:

- The Haunted, when they ditched Marco Aro to go back to their original singer, except instead of being awesome it sounded like a third-rate thrash ripoff of Alice in Chains. I hated it, I haven't been to see them live or bought any of their albums since, but I still think One Kill Wonder and The Haunted Made Me Do It are works of pure genius and I play them all the time.

- With the exception of a few tracks here and there I've disliked pretty much everything Infected Mushroom has done from Converting Vegetarians onwards - they had Jon Davis do guest vocals on a track, for crying out loud! But B.P.Empire and back? Still great, still gets played.

- Royal Crown Revue stopped being interesting to me years ago, when they seemingly transitioned from being focused on writing cool original stuff to mostly being a Vegas cover band. I don't begrudge them it, they've gotta make money and the swing fad of the late 90s was never going to last, and I still regularly play their old stuff. I'm just not particularly excited about going to see them live or anything these days.
