Avenged Sevenfold, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen are AMAZING albums, then City of Evil came out...and it was all downhill from there.

I mean how do you go from this:

to this??

Funny thing is that they planned on doing that from the beginning. Shadows told the producer that this album, Sounding the Seven Trumpets is all screaming. Our next one will be half screaming and half singing. I don't want to scream anymore. The one after that will be all singing.

I actually like their newer albums better. My favorite is their latest one, Nightmare.

IMO, CoE was a big improvement, and their self-titled is their best overall album.

I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.
I think it's a bit more complicated than that.

Especially if you listen to their song "War?" which is about war and how religion is one of the causes of it.

Also in the music video for "B.Y.O.B" some of the soldiers have "GOD" on their helmets and the whole song is basically an anti-war song.

Not sure about you, but I prefer to pay for my music. If you're paying money for an album, you're giving that person something. Why would I want to support something who has a tendency to do things I don't like?

I doubt any of the people who have bands they dislike for various reasons will cover their ears and go "lalalala" if the song happened to be played somewhere where they are, but they won't buy the CD, go to the concerts or buy the merchandise, which goes into supporting them.

Iron Maiden , until they paused after the Seventh Son album.
No prayer was aweful and when Adrian Smith was told to leave i switched over to other HM bands like BlackSabbath again. IMO they never recovered from this incident.

Best IM albums are all from the 80ies.

I like to think that the lyrics there are more of a "Science doesn't recognise faith so therefore doesn't fully recognize human nature scene as faith is more or less a part of human nature" type theme rather than "worship god" type of nature.

Now, while I agree with you that it all went downhill from City of Evil, personally I felt that it did still have their "feel" to it. After that though . . . eugh. I've never listened to the entirety of their self-titled album and I don't think I've managed to fully listen to any song off of "Nightmare" because they simply drifted away from their roots (yes, I know the drummer/backing vocals/songwriter guy died, yadda yadda).

Of course, I'm pretty sure I actually listened to City of Evil before Waking the Fallen and Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, so that might color my perspective a bit. . .

Slightly more OT: Linkin Park; A Day To Remember (Though I do still like them, it's much more selective than on all of their earlier albums); Destroy The Runner; Emarosa; and Escape the Fate are all valid contenders.

In an odd twist, The Devil Wears Prada; Drop Dead, Gorgeous; Hollywood Undead; The Human Abstract; Memphis May Fire; Norma Jean; and Veil of Maya are all bands that I didn't really care for until something new of theirs came out that I heard. (Memphis May Fire being a particularly interesting case because I loved their first EP with the original singer, was "meh" about their first album, felt their second EP was a bit better, and now really like their second album.)

I lost a large amount of respect for Dance gavin Dance until they threw Kurt out, just to get Johnny Craig back. He left the band in the first place, why would you want him back? Thats just crappy, In my opinion.
I hope you mean when they got rid of Kurt? Otherwise your statement doesn't make sense. And if that's what you mean then yeah, I kinda agree. I mean, Johnny is really annoying, especially on some live shows. Though DTBM2 is pretty damn good, I kinda miss their self-titled sound. It will always be one of my all-time favourite albums.

As for bands I've lost respect for, I can't really name any. I mean, I've moved on from bands, gotten over them, but never lose respect for.

yeah. I like the DTMB2, but without Kurt there, it sounds like another Emarosa. I still like the band, and enjoy their music. Just kinda went down a notch for me.

How would you explain their line "Why cry when angels deserve to die?" in "Chop Suey"? Taking lines out of context aside, perhaps "Science" is just a commentary on the short-comings of science? How its ostensible promise of leading us into a new and better world is slightly undercut when you consider the horrors humanity has had to endure ever since the advent of the modern age? Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?

Just throwing that out there, feel free to agree or disagree. Honestly, System aren't even that good in my opinion, so you not listening to them certainly isn't much of a loss as far as I'm concerned. That being said, if there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's rash decisions!

If they also didn't repeat "science has failed our world" over and over again then I might be more inclined to agree, plus it doesn't help that the song is damn catchy and I cant even think about these stupid lyrics without the damn thing getting stuck in my head. I liked it allot better before I knew what the words said.

Coldplay, until they started wearing downright crap uniforms and started singing shallow 'rock anthems'.

What the hell was wrong with the clocks/yellow formula? Brit pop with some class and execution? Damn you, Coldplay.
I actually think Viva la Vida was their best album, though it only barely beats out A Rush of Blood to the Head. I thought the old formula was good, until X&Y - then it became clear they needed to do something different. But yeah, I can see how the sudden switch could throw some people.

First time I heard Through the Fire and the Flames from Dragonforce it sounded quite badass; nice speed and some good solo-work. But then I found a vid of them doing that same song live....
I just can't listen to any of their work anymore, knowing that it's all studio editing without any real talent from their side.

I don't have stories like that. All my opinion switches have been "I didn't like them until..."

Although my love for Aphex Twin took hits when I read up on his rather infamous lying habit, jerkass tendencies and live shows. Hardcore pornography on stage? Classy.

I kinda don't get exactly what people are harping on about really...

That's the ideal, yes. Unfortunately, most people (and by most people I mean me) don't or can't listen to music in a vacuum. We're always going to take the artist's persona and ideas into consideration when listening to their music, and learning something terrible about the artist can ruin our enjoyment.

If you don't mind me taking it to a ridiculous extreme, what if you heard a song being played while witnessing some horrible crime? Would you ever be able to listen to the song the same way? Should you be expected to?

Besides, if the music stops being fun once we learn the artist is an asshole, maybe the music just isn't good enough. I can listen to Wagner even though he was a horrible anti-Semitic, racist bastard because his compositions were so fun (the fact that he's been dead for more than a hundred years probably helps).

Burzum, however, can fuck off.

I used to like Nightwish until I found out Tuomas Holopainen has some sort of twisted hardon for Walt Disney. Also if anyone starts that whole Tarja vs Anette thing again I will come round your house with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes and beat the snot out of you, ala J&SBSB. Fact.
I just knew nightwish was going to be mentioned but my surprise when it wasn't Tarja v. Anette XD

Hate to break it to you but System of a Down have never hidden their hardcore Christian roots.

Evanescence are also big on Jesus, just to warn you in case you have some CD's floating about.

Pantera - Basically they were set to tour with Slayer and a few other bands. The tour was due to kick off in Ireland on Sept 13 2001.Understandably due to the 9/11 attacks the tour was postponed but was rescheduled for Oct.However Pantera pulled out of the tour as they refused to fly.Lost a lot of respect for them after that as both Slayer and Biohazard still went ahead with the tour

I never really liked Evanescence, but it was a new sound. Then people on Youtube discovered them. These people took the band and linked them with every fight scene, every anime moment, every thing under the sun.

Youtubers did this with the song 'Let the bodies hit the floor' and most of Linkin Park for some reason. They all equally become triggers to make me gag because I'm so tired of hearing them.

However, some points I'd like to make. About the 'you should just love music for music' ideal.

On the same token, since you love some people, you should love all people. You love some food, you should love all food.

In reality, Emotions, fondness, and yearning all must come from a perilous spot: One that rests on an edge of just liking something and not liking something, that somehow managed balance itself in your favor. An attractive girl who's witty and is fun that you're well close to liking might lose your interest if she puffs up in front of you, because you kissed someone before with smokes and it made you feel like you had to gag.

Favor isn't set in stone. It, like respect, must be constantly earned. If someone did something to upset your favor with them, then it's upset. Even if they didn't mean it. Even if they are just expressing themselves. Fans grow. Sometimes they grow closer, sometimes they grow apart. How many were fans of EA before we learned about their practices? We are fans because artists, companies, whatever did something to earn our respect for that instance. Our respect can just as easily go once they do something to break our respect. Nothing wrong with that.

Sucks about evanescence, but I know that they started out as a christian band, too bad too, they have some good songs.
