Linkin Park used to be good... a few years ago.

Now... Well, I don't think I need to elaborate any further.

Huh. Before reading this thread it never occurred to me that Serj Tankian was christian. It makes total sense though. Not so much because of the song Science though, I don't think the song is as simple as just saying "science is bad because I'm christian", that's silly. I don't think the song was literally saying science is completely awful and faith is the best thing ever, because that's simply not true. Serj Tankian isn't a stupid guy, I'm sure he knows that. But a lot of spiritual themes, particularly religious themes do come up in his music. Like he almost word for word quotes the last words of Jesus in the Bible in Chop Suey! But I still think it's all great music and has a good message behind most of it.

I think the closest thing I can think of that relates to the OP is probably Still Remains. They were never the most amazing band in the world but they were one of the first bands I really got in to, and the first I saw live. I'm pretty sure they were also christian judging from some of their lyrical themes too. Basically what happened was their debut album was a pretty cool Metalcore/Melodeath hybrid, and their second album was pathetic wet load of emo crap. To illustrate my point:

To Live And Die By Fire from their first album Of Love And Lunacy:

Dancing With The Enemy from their second album The Serpent:

The band broke up after their second album but have recently reformed and are working on new music which they say will be more like their first album, maybe even heavier. I'm very interested to see what they will come up with. But I never really stopped liking them, I was just disappointed at what they had become. It was like they had totally sold out and became a shallow watered down husk of what they were before. It seemed like when they broke up it was the final nail in the coffin. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that part of the reason they broke up was because they had similar feelings about their second album as I did. But it never spoiled my enjoyment of their first album.

I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.
Hate to break it to you but System of a Down have never hidden their hardcore Christian roots.

Evanescence are also big on Jesus, just to warn you in case you have some CD's floating about.
Christian? I don't know about that, they've toured with Slayer and some of the interviews with Shavo and Daron say otherwise. Serj is definitely a very spiritual person, but christian? I doubt it.
Slyers vocalist is a christian too.

I dont understand how an artists faith can make someone hate their music.
Yes which I find hilarious. I don't really, as long as they aren't preachy about it.

Yeah I don't think anyone in SOAD follows a particular religion, I think they more take the agnostic stance on things.

Korn, until I learned that he sang about getting raped. That's the kind of shit you just keep inside.
I dont know...it might make some uncomfortable to listen to..

but I mean if he felt it was somthing that he wanted/needed to do (assuming it was actually based on a real experence and not just a theme for a song) then who are we to say otherwise?

and isnt it a cliche...that its not healthy to keep stuff inside
I admire his courage and do to a failing of no one but my myself, I cannot identify with music of a male rape victim. His music has lost it's appeal.

When I was young (I'm talking around the age of 8), I use to only listen to Green Day, Simple Plan, and Blink-182. I still listen to some Green Day, but once I heard some songs from Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, and Disturbed (about the age of 10), all I would listen to is music similar to it. However, I still respect Simple Plan, and Blink-182. I haven't lost respect for any band yet, but I absolutely hate pop and rap. I can't stand it at all.

Nah, never really thought that of any bands I like. I mean, yeah, Tarja leaving Nightwish was sad, but I don't hate the new chick (they have a couple good songs with her). Ozzy leaving Black Sabbath was sad, but he was replaced by Ronnie, who was awesome. I tend to like Metallica's more recent stuff more than their old (except "Garage, Inc." It can go die in a fire). I like Van Halen way more with Sammy Hagar than I ever did with David Lee Roth. I always thought that Brian Johnson is just as good as Bon Scott. So, yeah, never really experienced that yet.

I could mention Nightwish, because I'm a diehard Tarja fan. But I still like Annette, and although I feel Dark Passion Play was weaker because of her, I still love the album.

(shameless promotion! http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.273775-Just-A-Glitch-Reviews-Nightwishs-Dark-Passion-Play#10580665)

I could mention Evanescence, because Amy Lee is a ***** and when Ben Moody left, he took all the talent away. But other people have mentioned that.

No, my biggest gripe is with Cobra Starship. Cobra Starship released two PHENOMENAL albums, then went and released Hot Mess. I could live with Hot Mess. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good, especially not for CS. However, with Nightshades... I just can't even believe they went from Viva La Cobra to what they've become.

Gabe... I put my fangs down. Go make your lowest common denominator music. I'll stick to the songs you made when you gave a shit about music.

OH Yeah, what ever happened to Linkin Park?, they were pretty much the voice of a generation, good music with meaning... and suddenly they feel like a corporate band merely making music for whatever corporation is giving them money.

Basically this is a thread about a band or bands you may have liked until something they did, said or some other form of information concerning them came to light that made you lose respect for or possbly hate them.

I'll go ahead and list a few...

I liked Green Day until... the album Warning came out. After hearing that pile of crap over and over at a seasonal job I took (I won't say where but I hate myself for working there) I could never listen to another Green Day song ever again.

I liked Metallica until... St. Anger was released. Sure I didn't agree with their bitchiness over Napster... but when they released St. Anger, I realized then that these guys had lost the magic, the touch... whatever it was that made them metal was gone.

I liked Megadeth until... I met Dave Mustaine and found out what a real asshole he is.

So there are some examples...
So, does that mean that you've denied yourself the enjoyment of American Idiot and Death Magnetic?

Live got weaker after 3 albums, then their 4th album fellated enthusiastically. I also stopped listening to Green Day and Metallica until the above albums I mentioned.

Actually, I couldn't STAND the Foo Fighters (aside from "Monkey Wrench") until the album with "Let it Die" and "The Pretender" came out. Now I always pay attention when they release a new album.

I finally gave up on Nine Inch Nails after With Teeth.

you got it so wrong its actually hilarious. you gave up easily the best band of the last 10 years over a misunderstanding you were at fault for. Its about the beautiful hypocrisy of religion.

I liked Metallica until load.
I liked muse till they found out what money is.
I liked slayer until i listened to a second slayer song. the intros are different but the rest is the same.(didn't like the first song much anyway.)
Oh please, they are far from the best band of the last 10 years, even when I liked them they weren't in my top 5, and I've never been one for the standard band music anyway, so that is saying something. Really all they have is a lead singer with a hell of a voice.

I liked Nickelback, but I keep hearing that they are 'the worst band in the world.'

Could someone please clarify that for me?

Lots of people on the internet don't like them (mostly due to their banality). Therefore, according to Mob Logic, they are the worst band in the world, they should be set on fire and chainsawed to death at the same time, and anyone who likes them is an idiot with no brain.

People's opinions get more extreme when you put them in a group of people with the same opinion.

I don't like Nickelback but I don't hate them since I've never really payed any attention to them. But recently there was a thread about this so that is where you will find your answer:

Why DO people hate Nickelback? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.322329-Why-DO-people-hate-Nickelback?page=1]

Rage against the machine. Of course they split up WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY before I got into them, but at first I thought they were this cool old school, "not give a shit" band. Then I realised they just ***** about everything. THEN I realised that for all their pissing and moaning about global companies was bullshit because they were making them money. Like a band who continue saying "we didn't sell out and we never will, fuck record companies", while they're signed to a label. I've started to prefer rock and metal when they hardly ever give a message and just play for the sake of playing, and don't pretend they're something they're not. Like Slipknot (then again I haven't heard EVERYTHING by them).
