Bands you used to like

A pretty simple thread premise. Are there any bands you used to like but for some reason (either because of the band or your own) you drifted away from them. For instance, I used to really like Linkin Park, the first 2 albums anyway, because after that they simply changed styles. I liked them originally because of how different they were and now they just sound like every generic pop/rock band out there.

The opposite also applies. Any bands you used to hate but now like?

I used to really enjoy MCR, their incredibly happy sounding but dark songs like Our Lady of Sorrows and Headfirst for Halos are still enjoyable. Then they went all pop rock and..urgh, it's like their latest influence is S Club 7 or something.

Edit: And a great example that just came to mind is Sonic Syndicate. Anyone interested in hearing how drastically they changed should listen to Prelude to Extinction and Denied, then go try My Own Life. I'm not sure what the shit they were on when they thought that was a valid way to take a melodeath band, but it was some strong shit.

Ah yes, I really loved that track with the spider-man video. Took me a while to figure out that it was a collaberation...

Atreyu. I don't normally like to say that a band "Sold out" per se, since I find it can be a pretty vague statement...but Atreyu DEFINITELY sold out. :(

Hanson. They had some songs I liked when I was 12 or so, but their vocal style doesn't fit me any more.

Can't think of any other specific bands. First one I started listening to seriously was the Backstreet Boys, but I still love their stuff.

Nile and Arch Enemy. Such pathetic excuses for extremely mediocre metal. 'Oh they're metal and sound heavy' was pretty much the only argument I had for listening to them. Then I developed taste and actually started caring about a little more than how 'badass' it made me look when I told people I listened to crap like that.

I saw Mesmerize and Hypnotize in a clearance bin for about $4 each and wished that I still liked them.

I got that impression with Kings of Leon. I never really like them to begin with, I just suddenly noticed that they were a band of hairy rednecks then all of a sudden they're all well dressed and one of the most popular bands in the world.

Metallica, I have all their songs still on my itunes but I don't listen to them anymore... All because I moved onto heavier music.

Though I still don't get why people dislike St. Anger so much.

Yeah, I got out of the whole "eveything except metal sucks" mentality in my late teens. Even if I liked a song I would never admit it unless it was some sort of metal band. Now I like many different kinds of music, from metal to the blues, to classical, electronic and even a few pop tracks.

I used to like the Stranglers, but now sadly I'm just not a fan. Not sure what changed, I don't think their music has aged well at all and even a song like No More Heroes I find kind of gratting. Golden Brown remains their standout song which is something at least.

Other bands? Coldplay, I simply liked them because I hadn't heard any better at the time.
Snow Patrol same story, but less dreary than coldplay and a bit more whiney.

Thank goodness most people grow out of it, except maybe those thrash weirdos you only see at concerts with enough band patches to clot out that they're actually wearing denim

You still love System then; what you didn't realise is that Mezmerize and Hypnotize are Daron Malakian's solo project, in which he occasionally collaborates with the other three band members.

(If you hate Mez/Hyp, don't listen to Scars on Broadway or you WILL want to commit suicide...)

OT: Westlife.

What? I was a happy child.

Hah yeah, that's the reason I don't go to rock festivals. The first reason is that I need to bathe everyday and the second reason is that most of the other people attending haven't grown up yet.

I'll go with Nickelback. I really liked (and still do) their first two albums, bu they got a lot worse. I don't care what anyone says, Flat On The Floor is an awesome riff.

Nickelback seems to be a common pick, so I'll join in that.

As for the reverse, Grizzly Bear. I really, really hated Veckatimest the first several times I heard it, but I listened again on a whim nearly a year later and loved it.

Linkin Park - they were my first metal band and through them I got into real metal and rock and I still kinda like their older albums.
Nightwish - I just dont like their songs that much any more and I got sick of that Annette vs Tarja thing.
