Not gonna make that mistake again. I'll either vote Republican or stay home in 2012.
A republican may hold the same opinion as Obama does on video games.

I don't vote. I like Obama, but I didn't like him enough to vote for him, or any other politician for that matter. I think they are all just crooks.

i already knew the guy was an idiot
guess thats just more example

he flat out ADMITS that he doesn't even know how any of the systems WORK
and yet he feels entitled to complain about their negative effects on people while clearly never being exposed to them
he says they are a distraction
wonder if he'd say the same about people who read for fun
that its "distracting" them from their education

I don't really see how he's wrong.. sure, it's unflattering, but that doesn't mean it's wrong..

It's unflattering to say that america has an obesity epidemic, but it doesn't mean that americans aren't getting fatter every year.

Kids should be playing outside as much as possible.. This is the first generation that the parents will be, on the whole, sedentary louts doing as little as possible (and achieving doing very little indeed)... passing that onto our children is not a good thing.
I basically agree with you, but Mr.Obama owns a Nintendo Wii which he has admitted to playing and enjoying, so he is being a little hypocritical.
Well look at it like this what he was trying to get across is that a large number of people have video game obsessions that are all consuming "cough, cough" WOW "cough" and that people need to get off of their lazy asses and do shit other than just dick around all day like a bunch retarded lemurs and instead be productive hopefully mildly intelligent members of society.

Ahem. In my opinion, gaming is just as much legit entertainment as film, music and reading, so the idea of them being negative on a child doesn't really hit home to me. Of course, if a child was sat in front of the TV playing a game for 6 plus hours a night I would be more than a little concerned, but I would also be concerned if he or she just sat inside and read books all day and never went outisde to play with friends or whatever.
It's all in moderation.

Weeeeeell when i was in compulsory education i can't count the number of times i got in trouble for reading books to the point that i was banned from having books non-related to curriculum during school hours.

WoW is a very.. infectious breed of game. Don't worry, we're slowly working on a pesticide to take care of it. We swear, only one retarded lemur has been harmed in the making of this product. [sub]It stuck its finger in the electrical socket before we could even start, okay!?[/sub]

By that logic all entertainment that distracts from other endeavours causing a 'pressure on democracy'. I think, while the obvious thing to jump on is the games are a distraction bit, but, really, that's true in a sense. What really should questioned is the idea that, it's somehow -more- of a 'problem' with gaming than anything else, which really, again, is simply a case of singling it out against other more, respectable wastes of time *rolls eyes*.

Nothing he said in the article was wrong. Its seems to me like people are just using this as another excuse to make inane complaints about Obama.

Now, don't get me wrong. The guy deserves criticism. Just not for saying that education is more important than social media (which it is).

If the Republicans put up a Tea Party-type candidate, I'll just stay home. I have the right to vote. I also have the right NOT to vote if my only choices are between a shit sandwich and a kick in the head.

We have no viable third party choice in America, and the two parties we do have are just as bad as the one-party states elsewhere in the world. They strangle out and choke off real change and improvement in the name of letting the people "choose" how they will be exploited and treated like lambs to the slaughter.

Personally, I favor turning Washington, DC into a smoking, radioactive crater and starting over. I've been to DC. I like the place better in Fallout 3. Super Mutants would be preferable to politicians.

You do realize that not voting is the same as voting for one of the two-party candidates don't you? If you really are unsatisfied with the current system, find a 3rd party candidate you like and vote for them. They may not win, but they get federal money for the next election if they hit a certain amount of votes.

After all, apathy is a form of compliance. If you really think the country is going down the toilet you are just as much to blame for it as the politicians you are criticizing.

He's not really saying that they are bad, he's just saying that they are a distraction, and he's urging the students to study more.

Although "Putting a strain on our democracy" made no sense to me either.

I'd say they're improving democracy, what with their creative freedom, giving us such priceless gems as LittleBigPlanet and Okami.

Here, here... I didn't vote for him, but I also didn't vote for Palin. I went independent. I would have liked to see McCain in there, but not with Palin. He lost my vote because of her. But given the absolute mess that the current congress/administration is making of the constitution, I will be voting Republican in 2010 and 2012.

We are the gamers, the nerds, and the geeks; they cannot function without us. We know how to make the computer work, we have no borders, and we have the internet (the greatest weapon since the pointy rock). But I do agree with some of the above posts no need to rage about this' be slow, be cautious, be calculating then rain hell from the skies.

Back on topic
Who cares we have been bashed by many political leaders and we still exist.

I might agree with your base feelings as I have been let down by politicians before, yet you must remember that a blanket statment can go horribly wrong when a party decides to enter a nut job if only to get attention away from the "other team".

all politicians deserve criticism, what seems odd to me is that some people in this topic forget that all the negative stuff his administration has supposedly done has mostly been backlash from the previous one and that the other option would have done the same or worse things

making too big a deal over a small quote, as people always do

If I recall correctly, Obama is a HUGE Portal fan and he also put up messages to vote for him in a Need for speed(?) game during the elections.
