Batman was popular when Tim Burton was making the films too. The popularity only dipped because the quality dipped so much in the mid 90's.

Batman was always brilliant

And even Terry McGinnis made a good Batman, a brilliant Batman actually, Batman just got killed by George Clooney and that other guy that was the other batman once, he was in heat and some other

VAL KILNER!, him, he helped kill him too with the aid of the director... he directed Showgirls too, him he was rubbish.

edit, christ, biggest mind blink ever!

Well, I think it's obvious that the massive success of The Dark Knight has obviously done wonders for Batman's popularity. Anyone that says otherwise is lying.

Oh, and off-topic, could people please stop putting "Discuss" at the end o their OPs? I don't need you to tell me what I'm supposed to do in a thread, it's already pretty much heavily implied that you want people to discuss your topic.

I'm glad my grumpy thoughts were voiced by someone else...

Regarding Batman, of course it's the movies. Although (Adam West aside) I think Batman was always pretty cool. He's a scientist, afterall.

The Dark Knight helped tremendously and now he actually has a decent game. He is popular right now but don't worry, someone will eventually fuck up the franchise and it will fizzle out. Then in several years someone will come back with something better and revise it. It's a vicious cycle.

Everyone knows Spider-Man is the new black. Didn't you watch Spiderman 3? He was Batman, Wolverine and My Chemical Romance all rolled into one. Edgy.

I think Batman has always had a good fanbase, but the recent movies, and awesome game, have helped the Dark Knight reach a younger, newer audience.
This. Batman Arkham Asylum and the Dark Knight have very good chances of being game and movie of the year. So thats why its become so popular. Hell even Ive started reading the old comics because of the movie and game.

The movies (which I didn't see) and the game (which I don't play) made it even more popular.

Now you see why I'm so indifferent.

Batman is the only person to come out of DC that's had a distinct popularity amongst the comic nerds. With the movie coming out his awesomeness extended beyond that group

Uh, Superman?

Really though, DC comics seems to have a pretty poor track record for producing memorable characters that aren't Batman or Superman.

Wonder Woman. Linda Carter rocked that shit like a thunder storm. Man, she is still the hotness. Sky High, nuff said.

Questions?
Agreed. Batman has been awesome ever since Kane and Finger created him. Even the cheesy 60's batman was awesome in his own way.

Fear the dark knight.

My point still stands. Wonder Woman is pretty decent, but nowhere near as popular as Batman, let alone the huge stable of Marvel characters. Admittedly, a ton of the popular Marvel heroes all came from the X-men franchise, but there's still Spiderman, Hulk, and Iron Man (mostly due to the movie recently). DC characters tend more towards the Golden Age of idealism and simplicity of character. Superman doesn't have inner turmoil (very often). Batman is the most tormented and deep DC character that I'm aware of, but he fits in easily with most of the X-men, Spiderman, and Tony Stark in that department.

You mean when Dick Grayson became Batman? I never read those.

I don't even know which books have him.

Batman has always been popular as a superhero, but it's the same whenever a new game comes out. When the Wolverine film and game came out, then he became more popular for a while, until people got bored, but with a game as awesome as Arkham Asylum, then Mr Wayne's popularity will increase until the new fad comes along. I reckon it'll be My Little Pony!

They are the new Batman comics. Wayne supposedly died and Grayson took over. It is bullshit. Wayne is not dead. They are just doing the BS maneuver like when they killed Superman way back in the 90's. It is just a gimmick.
