I was a big fan of BF2, and I enjoy TF2, and do/did pretty well at both. I'm no master of first person shooters, but I can usually avoid embarrassing myself. So I was kind of excited to give this a try.
First...not as pretty as I expected. Sharp, but kind of grey...and drab. Animations are nice though.
Took me a while to figure out where I needed to be going. I'll just follow my guys, I think. Oh look, is that an enemy? He looks like my guys! I shoot at him. Pip pip pip, goes my wee little gun. Pip pip. Did I hit him? I cannot tell. There is very little in the way of visual feedback. Whoops, I was shot once and died. Well, the respawn is quick!
Pip pip pip! Pip pip! Dead. Respawn!

I quietly turned off the beta and resumed playing Medieval 2.
It's possible this genre has just passed me by, if this is the future of it. I don't necessarily need team red and team blue, but shooting at flickering, lack warping grey and brown wraiths on a smoky, lens-flared grey and brown field and wondering whether or not your bullets are actually hitting anything before dying in one shot is about as much fun as a punch to the scrotum.
