I like it. It feels slower than Bad Company 2 but I think because you can go prone now everyone is taking a more paced tactical route to the objectives.
Obviously the beta has bugs and I personally have had it crash twice in two sessions just as I got my groove on. The spawn menu is a bit of a mess so they'll have to try and condense that and make it more streamlined. Also am I the only one who thinks (on 360) the metro outside has an odd greenish tint?
So to sum up, good game, great with chums, has some menu problems, bugs too. Wouln't say it was as good as the Gears 3 beta in terms of content however. I'm already quite familular with Rush on Metro so a second map with Conquest might have been a welcome addition.
Not sure whether I like it more than BFBC2 or not.
Saying "It's beta so don't complain" isn't really a valid argument in this day and age. Open Beta's have more to do with demos than actual betas. The game goes into print in about two weeks, and what you're seeing in this "Beta" is pretty much what you'll get, if you buy the game at launch.
It works both ways however. I will never forget the time I was standing on one with my knife out(unaware of the spawn) when a guy just appeared in front of me. Stealth knife kill FTW!
Yeah...that's where the rest of my shotgun kills come from.
'This guy keeps somehow getting behind us every five seconds and kills almost everyone each time. Think there might be a mobile spawnpoint behind us?' 'No, you're crazy. Shut up and turn around again.' 'Derp. Okay.' -Shotguns both of them-
Go to nvidia and search for Beta drivers, I thought it wouldn't support my 8800 cause I couldn't get to driver 2.85 or whatever, but nvidia created a new driver specifically for the BF3 Beta, because if you look at all the video cards, their updates all only go to 2.80, you have to search for beta drivers
5 days in and the beta still don't work. Unknown error is the only experience of the battlefield i've had. Frankly this is a disaster. It has been mishandled completely with absolutely no effort from Dice or EA to rectify. The priority is obviously the PC version as is borne out by the reports of the 360 version performance (my console) and the fact that you can't leave feedback on battlelog (whatever that is) without an Origins accout, something I neither want nor need. I've sent tweets, left blog comments on their official blog, and posted on their forum, all for naught. We are just over 3 weeks until release. On what evidence do I believe the final product won't be a massive mess like this 'beta', and why are we testing an older build (one that's therefore presumably no longer relevant)?
Right now I'd much rather play MW3, and that is saying a lot.
They are not testing the game, they are testing the servers and Battlelog and the forums, as well as receiving some input on the game itself. The game has said from the start it focuses on PC, and getting it on console was your fault - and seeing as to patch anything in the console version it would take longer than the Beta is out for to get approval from EA you guys really get left behind.
Wanting an Origin account to post on Origin forums is also not unreasonable. From memory you could link across your XBL account, I found that option somewhere. It is not so different to having to create an XBL account to play the PC version of Bioshock 2 - and that made even less sense, but I didn't mind.

Sometimes, I really have to question what kind of gameplay people on this site are getting.
Prone is not good in a game like Battlefield. Unless, of course, you have some sort of virtual bush fetish.
I agree almost completely with this, especially Dumbshit Island. The number of people I have killed on that island because they thought they were hidden and safe to snipe...
Personally, I have had no problems with the Beta, and everyone's complaints I have seen to date about gameplay balance 'issues' I have been easily able to turn around with some tactics. Campers? Get a 6X scope on an assault rifle and shoot at them. Suppression keeps them blinded, you damage them, and all going well, they die.
Rocket Launchers and LMGs down a hallway for defence. Get a squad of assualts to open fire down the hallway with 2 medics around the corner. When someone dies, res them. Works every time for me.
Flashlights blind me too much: That's the freaking point. Get your own flashlight, and/or shoot in the direction the light is coming from. Or, don't get in close range. Flashlights are meant to be devastating in close range, but detrimental in long range. Deal with it.
'I get killed after 3 seconds of walking around': Take Cover. It helps to no end.
'Snipers are OP, and they never go for objectives': Which is why I eat snipers for breakfast, unless they are going assault sniper and running close range with a sniper with a flashlight and a HOLO zoom, running up next to you then 1 hitting you due to the snipers power and hitbox glitches. Some of the best objective hunters on the teams I play on have been snipers.
There are many more, but that is all I could be bothered with. The other thing that annoys me is the 'This isn't a beta, its a demo'. Whilst its true a lot of companies do that, this Beta was weeks or months old at its release dates. Why isn't it released by now if that was the finished product and they were just giving us a demo to pique our interest? Oh Yeah, Its a freaking Beta that is still being worked on before the final release. Better Squad management, among other things, is being added, and lots of bugs are being fixed.
The whole point of a Beta is to ***** about the bugs that hows they get fixed so get off your high horse and accept that right now battlefield is a horrible game to play because of all the bugs but despite that I've played 11 hours of it even though its only one map because it is still an amazing game.
Have you played Operation Metro? There is like a solid line of snipers and LMGers. The moment you pop your head out of cover, it gets taken clean off from 100+ meters away. How exactly are you supposed to take out someone hundreds of meters away lying prone in a bush so that they can't be seen?
You also go sniper/LMGer and spam. But then the attacking team loses. It doesn't help that phase 1 of Op Metro is a glitchy near-unplayable mess.
It's gotten to the point where I just kind of sit there until we move into the subway or the round ends. It happens in the subway too, but at least it's small enough that you can fight back without stooping to their level.
Well, from my experience the answer is teamwork. You need snipers and support guys taking out the enemy, and you also need guys that move from cover to cover to get to the bomb site. After one guy plants all that needs to happen for engies to destroy the cover and allow friendly snipers and support guys to cover the bomb site. It can be tough, and sometimes impossible to achieve this by yourself, but with a good team behind you it's doable.
There are WAAAAAY too many campers for me to enjoy this game. Everyone just lays on their vagina behind a wall or inside a bush and won't budge the entire match.
Call of Duty has worse mechanics, but at least the community has a few pair of testicles between them.
Incoming BF fanboys citing "realism" as the reason their entire community consists of cowards.
I enjoyed it, for the first few days, but it seems now that the campers have discovered the party and the snipers are the +1.
Now I know snipers are part and parcel of the battlefield series, but proning under the map with a scope or constantly camping in a hedge doesnt ring in the fun times for me. The game seems fine, but heres hoping.the community grows a bit better.
Heres hoping the polished version is as good as was promised too, otherwise all these months of internet bitching will have been wasted.
