BF3 Info:
-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat; one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
-More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
-4 classes
-Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
-Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"F**k" will be used often, so M rates for sure
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
-PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?

Inb4 bitching on lack of or terrible story for a MULTIPLAYER ORIENTED GAME.

Also, I heard there are going to be maps in New York and Paris. If destruction is as good as they say it is, destroying skyscrapers or the Eiffel Tower will be amazing. Also, return to 64 players is also amazing. Gotta upgrade my PC sometime though.

Aw. Hell. Yeah.

I love Bad Company 2, and Frostbite 1.0 is an amazing and beautiful itself, so I can't wait to see what DICE can do with twice the people and a new engine. I'm already very excited.

Really? BF2 was one of the best games I have played, what was wrong with that?
Not nearly enough aircraft carriers. Vehicles were always my favorite part of 1942, everything else about Battlefield is just ho-hum shooter business.

Actually 2142 had mechs if I remember right. That was fun.

...That looks kinda average. Darn, I was hoping for eye candy.

Oh well, 64 players is nice. *blinks at info* oh they'll say fuck too!

So now I'm kinda uninterested in this game :(

Are you crazy?!!

Do you see the lighting in this? You see the amount of tessellation? No jagged lines, nothing. This is rivals crysis 2 in terms of visuals. This is what we need for PC gaming, getting rid of DX9 and using new tech to its fullest.

4 classes.
No mod tools.

Oh good, something to keep the hype from getting too high. Looks like medics are using LMGs again.

You don't know that, the class customization is still unknown, there can be many options for classes now for all we know.

I would say it looks like pretty much every military shooter released in the last decade, but Battlefield does that environmental destruction thing I love so much. That's the only thing that really sets it apart from the rest, and it's a pretty damn amazing thing to have. I love being able to make my own ways into places.

Yes! I have always preferred the battlefield series over COD, and although bad company 2 was great, a return to the proper battlefield series is awesome.

If I may, in the first image, I am drawn to the 2D sprite smoke, as opposed to volumetric. The low resolution shadow map on the hole in the wall and the razor sharp shadow on the building in the distance. In the second image, I'm seeing a relatively flat texture, coupled with the afformentioned low resolution shadow maps on the soldiers. I don't think I even want to mention the wall.

It's not as impressive as the Cryengine was. It looks generic. It's not pushing anything visually. Not in stills, in the info you posted they're focusing on animation. It could also just be game informer doesn't have the tech to run it at max. But I am not impressed. Jaggies are eliminated by AA not tessellation, however that hole in the wall -does- look quite nice. So ...1 point to BF3.

I liked Battlefield Vietnam a lot. The loading screen music introduced me to pre-90s stuff I was totally unaware of before. Also, some of the maps were AWESOME. And the M14.

Or, more likely, its going to be assault, engineer, medic, and recon.
