Dice's tip simply said that 'Shotguns are excellent for close quarters combat'. They didn't say anything about 'they are the best'. Also what you're describing doesn't sound like an ordinary logic that should give you cause to be 'worried' about anyone who doesn't think the same way: it shows that Dice had an abysmal sense of balancing in BF2 if there was absolutely zero reason to take a shotgun over a sniper rifle. The purpose of a shotgun is supposed to be that you do not need pinpoint accuracy at extreme close range: the tradeoff being that at any other range it's practically useless. Don't go tossing around snide remarks about other people's gaming experience just because you are more accustomed with the balance problems of previous BF games than they are.
There's one or several misunderstandings here, so let me try to clear it up:
In previous BF games, shotguns were useless OR shotguns didn't exist
In BF3, DICE claims shotguns are good for CQC
--> Anyone who expects shotguns to remain useless in BF3 is not to be "worried" about
--> AND Anyone who expects shotguns to be good in BF3 (before hearing DICE's promotion of them) takes knowledge of BF3 from other FPS titles, information that should - by default - be wrong*
Hopefully this clears up my thought process. And I don't see how it is "snide" to say that someone's comment is factually and logically wrong, but I'll let you have that one for free on the basis of "meh, ad hominem" and "I just don't care".
*Although probably isn't, seeing that DICE is making something much more similar to certain other FPS games, rather than their own BF series. But you can't guess this before playing all the instalments.
