I Really really want BF3 to be good. I'm terrified that they've "CODified" the series though. Just having vehicles wasn't what made Battlefield. I haven't been reading up too much on BF3, but If there's things like kill streaks, and only 16 people per game (32 is a joke for max players too), without a doubt going to pass on this.
PC version will support 64 players as far as I've heard :)

It's basically the real sequel to Battlefield 2 with all the aircraft and whatnot!

No, it's not on my wish list. I didn't really like BF:BC2 (I'm entitled to my opinion, okay? I don't like BlOps, either), and I don't like this type of unimaginative one-upsmanship in business practice.

Plus, in their perfect world, if they're successful in gaining equal footing with COD: The Next One, isn't it likely that we'll just end up with another Guitar Hero/Rock Band situation where the customers get so damned tired of "realistic" first person shooters that the entire genre just dies and poops its pants?

Well that's good. I would have expected that battlefield would have made the jump to 128 (If you wanted, not everyone likes that big of games), but 64 will do nicely.

Ps. I understand we're following data sizes, but why are max players multiples of 8? There a reason, or are we just sticking to old traditions?

Is it wrong that I want it not to upset COD so that all of the annoying little teenagers keep playing that while I enjoy Battlefield?

I hope to all hell that BF3 is not the next CoD.
BF2 was something special. A shining diamond that should be emulated and ~reproduced by EA/DICE. Don't get me wrong BFBC2 was good and I still play it...... It's just not quite BF2. (few things missing or not to scale)
This "CoD Killer" thing makes me sad. Because to kill CoD, you need to make a game that is CoD and I would much rather have BF3. (I just don?t play CoD past #4)
Recipy for BF3 should be IMO....... Take BF2, Update graphics, 90% new maps, keep a few old maps, rework vehicles and weapons. With that DICE/EA could not go wrong. (IMO)
That and throw in the jet fighters, which is what they are doing. =)

Seriously, fuck the competition. Make an awesome game and it will sell, regardless of the competition EA. I hope your launch for Battlefield 3 doesn't have a retarded marketing campaign.

Good thing BF3 has a promising future, because, honestly, The Old Republic looks terrible.

Why not just, oh I don't know, put all your effort and money into the quality of the game and let it spread through word of mouth rather than ads. I would think that hear say from friends and others would sell a game better than a 30 second spot would.

Shouldn't the statement be adjusted to:
EA want ALL their titles to aim for CoD?

Dragon Age 2 was aimed at a more centralised market.
Mass Effect 3 is going to aim for a "wider market".

Seriously, why try to make so many successful, popular games aim for the same damn market, one which they already DON'T tap into.

Added to which: CoD is pretty much done. MW2 was much worse than MW1, and by all accounts, Black Ops was worse than MW2. MW1 was pure genius, but the CoD team clearly have no idea why.

If you can run BFBC2 or BLOPS on PC then you will run this. its the same engine as BFBC2. and BFBC2 was not as robust as Crysis2. only thing is they may have added some higher poly count models, some of the effects may have more frames as well as higher ql targa files. and textures may be slightly higher ql.
This is a wrong statement. BFBC2 used Frostbite 1.5. BF3 will be using Frostbite 2.0. New engine, more demanding on the system.
HAHAHA Nope same engine. some tweeks and bug fixes, functions truncated and maybe a few added but most likely already included. By your logic everytime you do an update for lets say windows to SP1 or SP2, its a whole new one because the version number has changed. By your logic BF2 and BF2142 was built on a different engine. sorry no, Dice didnt spend all those years working on Frostbite to not milk it for all its worth and pump out as many games as possible with as little work on the engine itself as possible.

Making a new game engine is expensive, it takes many years to do. game companies build an engine to be able to do more than just 1 game with 1 set of functions. and they dont completly rebuild it for each title. they cant afford to. 5 years to build the engine, 2-3 years to do a major upgrade is common for a game engine of Frostbites caliber in the industry.

BF3 will never dethrone COD for a few reasons.

1. No split-screen.

2. No regular deathmatch mode.

3. Not as customizable loadouts.

4. Not as accessible as COD (aka noob friendly)

5. Vehicles, spotting and massive maps don't appeal to everyone.

Battlefield is a hardcore series for hardcore gamers and it will never dethrone COD unless it appeals to a broader audience. They may win the hearts of the gaming community, but if the Wii has proven anything, it's that the hardcore audience is NOT where the money is.

Does everyone -have- to choose between CoD and BF? I love both series a lot. Is it really necessary to pick a side?

I'm looking forward to both BF3 and the next CoD game.

Battlefield 3 is going to be epic. I'm just mad they've shown so much already, because now I have to be this excited for that much longer.

How to defeat COD:

1. Dumb down the gameplay even more
2. Focus entirely on respawn noob customer base
3. Add lots of shiny things for the tards to brag about
4. Release a reskinned version of the same game with a handful of new maps each six months
Not really. Remember the 1990's where pokémon and zelda, more or last Nintendo had everything? Their software sales did not grow that far with the market expansion. Sometimes all you need is to wait the market to naturally change. The kid who loved the first COD MW is older so does that person needs. Also there is a factor of saturating a market with the same thing. Gameplay wise all COD's are identical. Sometimes the market just changes.

Fine, let me be more specific:
New engine VERSION. I thought that was kind of implied when I gave the version numbers, I but I guess not.

It's still not the "same thing," which is what you indicated in your original post.
Is IDTech 4 the same as IDTech 3? Well, it's an evolution of the engine, but no, it's not the same thing, especially not when it comes to system requirements, which is what you were talking about in the first place.
I think a better analogy would have been the difference between Windows 95 and 98, or something of that nature. Not service pack.

do you go around your entire life looking for loopholes and technicalities to qualify everything you don't agree with as wrong?
Jesus people...
