I don't see why you would think a game with a name like "Battlefield 3" would come anywhere close to bombing when games like Homefront and Medal of Honor, decidely average FPS's in single player and multiplayer, still sell several million copies. "All" may not be having good times, but certainly plenty of people are.
I suppose it's my fault for being somewhat vague. When I say "bomb", I mean "In comparison to how well the developers think it should have done". However, I will recant this statement if the game is legitimately good, i.e. has visible improvements over its predecessor, and is not just a new single player campaign and new multiplayer maps. I will also half-recant this statement if it is just a new single player campaign and new multiplayer maps, AND is not sixty U.S. dollars.

FPSes generally place pretty low on my list of titles I'm interested in, but I'm definitely, definitely interested in Battlefield 3. The multiplayer for 2 alone lasted for years, making it well worth the price. Definitely going to be picking this one up.

I'm definitely buying this game. It's on my list of the games that are a must-buy in this year. MW1 was the last COD game I had bought. If they don't start to make them better againg then I guess I'll never buy one ever again.
It would be great if all the annoying kids stayed in COD and the more mature players would play now BF3.

I need MP details.

Battlefield has had features subtracted from it with every iteration. So i will not get hype about this Battlefield until i have details about the part of the game i care more about.

the trailer is nice to look at but i can careless about its 4 hour campaign.

If they give me the huge map and freedom i got with all the vehicle/weapon diversity of BF1942, I will pre-order this.

"Is Battlefield 3 on your wish list?"

Nah, looks like a generic shooter. At least Crysis (2) had a few nanosuit superpowers and a few plot points of interest.

Yeah, DICE! Their office is just about half an hour drive from here. If I'm ever looking for a job, I know where to turn!

After the pile of shit that was COD Black OPS and MW2 I have to admit the prospect of a good FPS is appealing.

As long as they don't make it a crappy console port like Battlefield 2 I'm happy.

I don't want Battlefield to be the next Call of Duty, I have a feeling it'll ruin it completely.

They have officially stated that PC is their primary platform and that everything will be scaled down to accommodate for older PC's and consoles
The proof of this will be in the pudding. There have been plenty of other developers to claim a PC-focus prior to release, and then the game turns out to be complete ass on PC. It encourages me to hear this from them, but past burns leave me a skeptic.

So rather than let it be a fantastic game on it's own merit's, EA are now directly telling us to compare it to Call of Duty... *clap... *clap... *clap

I fully expect this game to be better than CoD don't get me wrong, but I know the vast majority of FPS players I know won't even be pulled away from their beloved CoD by free cake and virgins. So even if Battlefield 3 is better, it won't sell as well as CoD, because CoD is CoD, which is all that matters to the fanboys. So now the whole Battlefield 3 project will be looked back on as a failure because it didn't sell 'quite as well' as CoD, rather than a success because it was a good game.
Yeah, this is definitely a point worth making. It's sad when the focus of a game simply becomes to beat another game. Hopefully most of that talk is just pomp & circumstance and EA wont treat it as a failure if it doesn't manage to break the Black Ops sales record.

If you can run BFBC2 or BLOPS on PC then you will run this. its the same engine as BFBC2. and BFBC2 was not as robust as Crysis2. only thing is they may have added some higher poly count models, some of the effects may have more frames as well as higher ql targa files. and textures may be slightly higher ql.
This is a wrong statement. BFBC2 used Frostbite 1.5. BF3 will be using Frostbite 2.0. New engine, more demanding on the system.

Then again, this old boy was able to run Crysis 2 at "minimum", so I have some hope, atleast.
Not to rain on your parade, but this might not be the case at all. I actually have the feeling that BF3 at minimum will be more taxing than Crysis 2 at high. Crysis 2 was _very_ scaled back.
To give you an idea, I ran Crysis 2 on max and got about 65FPS average. In the original Crysis, with the same system, I got about 20FPS average on max.
So, what I'm trying to say is, Crysis 2 is not a very good way to gauge your system's power.

I hope to all hell that BF3 is not the next CoD.
BF2 was something special. A shining diamond that should be emulated and ~reproduced by EA/DICE. Don't get me wrong BFBC2 was good and I still play it...... It's just not quite BF2. (few things missing or not to scale)
This "CoD Killer" thing makes me sad. Because to kill CoD, you need to make a game that is CoD and I would much rather have BF3. (I just don?t play CoD past #4)
Recipy for BF3 should be IMO....... Take BF2, Update graphics, 90% new maps, keep a few old maps, rework vehicles and weapons. With that DICE/EA could not go wrong. (IMO)

I might be getting battlefield 3, to enjoy the technical side of things (like sound design, scene design, etc).
your going to love BF3 then. They went to full scale military exercises to record sounds of actual tanks an guns firing. And you should look up the lighting mechanic demonstration where they took a yellow and blue light, and filled the rendering with clouds so you could fully see the power of the engine.
Ah thats interesting news.

Its a shame they are wasting all this talent on some pissing contest with COD.

I really wish game makers would stop trying to be and or trump a popular series, when they should be trying to make their own game.
Actually its EA's job to. EA is the publisher, they have to knock down COD. Dice is the developer of the game, they're the ones doing all this stuff such as making the amazing frosbite 2 engine and going to military operations. Also EA's really been helpful in the sense that DICE is suing EA's ANT animation system from EA sports games to mesh what would happen in cutscenes into the gameplay instead
Perhaps but still publishers shouldnt be doing that whole pissing contest.

They should encourage their developers to make their own game instead of trying to be another game in terms of gameplay.

That mentality of "lets be like that popular game" stagnates the game market so much.

What happened to making games so that people could enjoy them? Now it seems EA just want money and to crush their competitors

How to defeat COD:

1. Dumb down the gameplay even more
2. Focus entirely on respawn noob customer base
3. Add lots of shiny things for the tards to brag about
4. Release a reskinned version of the same game with a handful of new maps each six months

Sadly, I think it will be using the idiotic EA Download Manager.

So grab a few headache pills and maybe a shot or two of Popov before you can even think about installing Battlefield 3
NOOOOOoooooo!!! Overdramatic a bit much maybe, but I still can't play 2142 through EADM so I have no hopes for this. Sad. Guess I'll be buying a disc version and hopefully being able to play it on a different computer when I replace my PoS I have now.
