Whatever, just wash your hands.
I plan on buying the fuck out of it but if ea wants to really make sure that it overtakes cod then they should also take a page from valve and give out the map packs for free and make a big deal about each new one with the catch phrase "dont you with a certain duty of call treated you this well"

I might be getting battlefield 3, to enjoy the technical side of things (like sound design, scene design, etc).
your going to love BF3 then. They went to full scale military exercises to record sounds of actual tanks an guns firing. And you should look up the lighting mechanic demonstration where they took a yellow and blue light, and filled the rendering with clouds so you could fully see the power of the engine.
Ah thats interesting news.

Its a shame they are wasting all this talent on some pissing contest with COD.

I really wish game makers would stop trying to be and or trump a popular series, when they should be trying to make their own game.

I suppose I'd be willing to take a shot at it.
What's with all these puns lately?
I couldn't think of anything very conversational at the time, and puns are kinda my thing now.

I simply don't know if Battlefield 3 will be able to take down Call of Duty. Are they just trying to make a CoD killer or an Optimal BF? Success depends on a lot of unknown factors: controls, single player campaign, characters, multi-player. From what I've seen of the game-play footage, it certainly looks like CoD, but I'm gunna reserve judgement on that until the reviews come in.
I fixed that for you.

I don't know about BF3 anymore the more I read about the more sad I become, it's going to be a CoD clone and while I desperately hope it won't deep inside I know it will be. EA doesn't give two craps about what they release and what people think about it anymore. As long as they get their money they don't give a shit. They won't form a challenge for activision because the CoD franchise is more popular than oxygen. I had high hopes for it, but it has became EA's speciality to crush dreams and steal wallets these days.

Is Battlefield 3 on your wish list?
You bet your behind it is. Has been since BF2.

No other game out there right now can be compared to Battlefield, with the possible exeption of ArmA, which is more of a MilSim than a "game".

I'm a total ArmA nut; I love that stuff, but it's just not accessible enough to be a truly great multiplayer platform for wannabe-be soldiers who don't feel like running the risk of getting dead.

Battlefield 2 did that for ArmA 1, and BF3 will do it for ArmA 2.

And in any case... 32vs32 players on a map that actually accommodates sniper rifles? Yes please.

Grant me an MH-6J and a pilot to fly it, myself and my sniper rifle, and I will show you some dead players.

Battlefield... you're not going to beat the most popular game based around modern warfare by... being a game based around modern warfare. Seriously. Even in BC2 all I was doing three fourths of the game was looking around the huge map for a sign of anyone. For this grand scale battle they advertise it sure feels more like an empty wasteland than an epic battlefield.

Hopefully, if this completely bombs, it'll make the FPS industry think "Gee, perhaps the whole 'Realistic War Shooter' thing is played out, maybe we should try something new and exciting." And then good times will be had by all.

Or... maybe things will just continue as they always do.

I don't see why you would think a game with a name like "Battlefield 3" would come anywhere close to bombing when games like Homefront and Medal of Honor, decidely average FPS's in single player and multiplayer, still sell several million copies. "All" may not be having good times, but certainly plenty of people are.

Battlefield was never meant to be non stop action. There where some times minutes between big fights, and that was fine because it was all leading up to a satisfying, at least somewhat strategic battle. Newer shooters are nothing but shoot run run shoot shoot run! I prefer a little more thinking, even if it's not a whole lot.

>EA is setting its sights square on the Call of Duty money pile with Battlefield 3

Goddammit, when will big gaming companies stop trying to achieve Cod-like status and try something unique?
When there's not a threat of going broke over one botched game. You wanna see more innovation in the field? Pay $150 per game.
lol that statement's so silly I'm not even going to argue with it.
That's your answer. Why don't they try something unique? Because no one will buy it. End of.
Uh I know that's my answer and I don't think I asked you why they don't try something unique. and if you don't think people wouldn't buy something unique then you've never heard of Valve lol!
Portal was unique. Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress aren't. They're very high quality, but not unique.

And really, Dwarf Fortress would have been a dismal failure had it not been developed over a decade by an obsessive basement developer (and it's still in alpha). Mirror's Edge was successful, but not smashingly. Psychonauts bombed. Beyond Good And Evil bombed. Indie titles tend to be extremely cheap with low purchase counts.

You know what was a smashing success? Call of Duty. And that is why everything aspires to be like Call of Duty, to answer your original question.

Seeing as how Bad Company 2 made Blops downright unplayable to me, you can bet I'm getting this. The only question is whether I get it for 360 or PC....leaning towards PC, but want to know if I can run it, first, and I want to know if any of my friends are getting it on 360. Then again, this old boy was able to run Crysis 2 at "minimum", so I have some hope, atleast.
If you can run BFBC2 or BLOPS on PC then you will run this. its the same engine as BFBC2. and BFBC2 was not as robust as Crysis2. only thing is they may have added some higher poly count models, some of the effects may have more frames as well as higher ql targa files. and textures may be slightly higher ql.

I always liked battlefield since my infatuation with BF 1942. Great games IMO; spent a lot more time with them collectively than I ever have with COD.

EA truly sucks as a company. Not from a business standpoint, but from a consumer standpoint. They publish incredible games but with absolutely attrocious strategies meant to screw over the consumer as much as possible.

That said, I'm truly excited for Battlefield 3. I just wish that there was a way to get it without supporting EA in the process.

Really? Because I'm not in any hurry to play yet another incarnation of BF with a few game play/weapon upgrades and an engine overhaul.

I can't speak for others, but there's only so many variations on this theme.
