Unfortunately, i'll probably stay away from this expansion. I don't see it as adding much to my experience in BFBC2. All of my game mates are buying this, at the same time they call CoD players sheep they don't seem to realize they are just as much so to BF series XD
)
So I'm a sheep if I continue to buy into a series that consistently produces the best online action around? I've played almost every game in the BF series (bar 1942) and BC2 is just the best. It doesn't matter that you don't have 64 people because you just don't need them. 24 is more than enough when consider the amount of detail that goes into BC2. Canit wait until December 21st!

Well Vietnam was announced round the same time as Black Ops anyway. And to be honest Black Ops only has two REAL Vietnam levels, doesn't even have any Vietnam maps in multiplayer.

Bad Company 2 Vietnam will be pretty good though. DICE know what they're doing.

You may NOT have noticed their incredible Marketing timing with announcing this.

On the very same day that Bobby Kotick announced he would like Pay-for-play Multiplayer on Call Of Duty, DICE revealed Battlefield: BC 2 Vietnam......and said it would be FREE.

DICE 1-0 Call of Duty.

Your move Kotick.......

BC2 is the spiritual successor to Battlefield: Vietnam which came out way before Activision was thinking about Black Ops. BC2 Vietnam is just a way to update an old game with a new engine without having to make a standalone game.

So you don't think its backwards that a game that came out 8 years ago has more gameplay options, supported more players, was easier to mod, and had a proper Menu UI than the current gen version?

Guess that makes me unique for expecting MORE from a game now rather than LESS. go figure. I own every BF up to BF2 and started over with BFBC2. I only bought BFBC2 because it was $30-40 on steam. Its ok but not all that spectacular.

Things you got to play with (not counting unarmed transports )
BF1942: jeeps, tanks, howitzers, APC, AA&AT Guns, planes, bombers, submarines, battleships, destroyers, carriers(that move), landing crafts.

BF:V: traps, Jeeps, tanks, howitzers, APC, AA&AT Guns, planes, helicopters, PT boats.

BF2: drops, hummers, tanks, APC, AA guns, planes, VTOL planes, helicopters, landing crafts.

BF2142: drops, hummers, tanks, APC, AA guns, planes, helicopters, mechs walkers, Titan.

BFBC1&2: UAV, tanks, APC, AA guns, Helicopters, PT Boats.

Hmm certainly looks your getting less and less with every iteration doesn't it. So far the only constant is the infantry classes.

I appreciate that they are making it more infantry focus but that was never the reason I got into Battlefield. The freedom to do whatever in whatever in a giant open military style sandbox was y i love Battlefield (hence the name.)

O wells time for me to graduate to the Simulators like Flashpoint and Armed Assualt ._.

P.S. if BF3 plays more like BF1942 I'd be the first one to buy that. But i have a good feeling its gonna play more like MOH >.<

Vietnam isn't free, its $15.
Also, a marketing rep recently stated expressly that multiplayer was never going Pay to Play for Call of Duty. I think Kotick was making more of an 'in an ideal world' statement.

I enjoy Call of Duty, and I really like Black Ops.
But Battlefield went to Vietnam first.
Plus it isn't Call of Duty: Vietnam. It's Call of Duty: Black Ops.
There are only a few missions where you're actually in Vietnam, and it follows its own story.

DICE has a history of doing everything better than Treyarch and Infinity Ward. I'm going to purchase this Vietnam expansion pack and enjoy it to the fullest, with full knowledge that they went to Vietnam before Call of Duty 4 was even released.

More seriously, Bad Company immerses its players in what feels like an actual conflict. Modern Warfare 2/Black Ops, encourages Rambo-style lone wolf gameplay. We've been over this before people.

Hmm, It appears there is some confusion, Here in the UK it is advertised as being free as far as I have seen (On 360 anyway). Can someone clear this up for me??

But it IS too much like CoD. Like I said, it's not a bad game, but it's not what a Battlefield game of the future should have looked like, because of its heavy adaption to the console-FPS that it is.
too much like CoD, i know of almost no one who has played CoD that was able to drop into BC2 without a good pop in the face for a learning curve (what!! i cant camp!! i cant avalance kills with killstreaks!! JESUS IS THAT A TANK!!!) the only things remotely similar about these games are that they are both FPS both use guns, and in both you shoot people....seriously the gameplay experience for BC is MUCH different than CoD

Suki the Cat said:
It is a different game, but it takes many a page from the console book, a book that has recently had several of its chapters added by CoD. I can't wait for BF3... Battlefield is coming home to the PC again, and I do hope they did it properly this time, the way a Battlefield game SHOULD be. And don't they dare forget us again...
dont they dare forget you.....ahh i see you are an overprivileged entitled PC player....you realize more people play consoles than PC games for damn near every genre other than RTS right??

Suki the Cat said:
Oh, and the team-work in BC2 is VERY meager, to say the least. Better than CoD, granted, but that isn't saying much... it's unfortunate that you don't see much along the lines of team-work in online play outside of a bunch for friends/clannies playing.
you must have been one of those players running around as a medic going "OMG MACHINE GUNS!!!" instead of throwing med packs at conflict points or ressing downed allies. just by turning on a mic in BC i have had a whole squad mic up (funny how it just takes 1 person to talk and everyone suddenly has a mic) and dominate games because we work together. in BC teamwork isnt required at all...unless you want to win....or you are playing squad deathmatch

i dont normally jumpat a persons throat like this but....for you i made an exception as you are attacking my favorite multiplayer game.

It's all over everywhere - I'm surprised it's being "announced" in a thread this late.

And Battlefield did Vietnam before Call of Duty, so who gives a fuck?

It's premium content - it won't be free on the 360.

(And it isn't free on Steam either).

Yeah, I just saw this on steam. I laughed. They should have chosen the korean war. Far more relevant now
I'd say Vietnam is far more relevant considering the war in Afghanistan.

You remember that first mission in Bad Company 2?

The one with the second-world-war-era weapons and buildings set on a suspiciously Vietnam-esque Japanese island?

They didn't make all of those game objects, animations and models just so they could have a convincing first level. They've been planning this game since before Black Ops was even announced (and they announced it at E3, at the same time as Black Ops IIRC).

Who cares who did what first? The fact is that BFBC2 and MW2/BO play differently, and cater to (mostly) different fans of FPS games. Why is it that people love to debate over who's trying to rip off who? I'd much rather just stick with the games I like, support them, and enjoy them.

I'm excited for Vietnam... finally, a release date! Dec. 21st is really cutting it close to their original release date of "Winter 2010", but I'm sure as hell happy that they made that deadline, rather than pushing it back. I'm also really excited that it's only 1200 MSP. Especially consider MW2 charged it's fanbase 1200 MSP for two new maps, and two recycled (and not so great) maps.

DICE games play just right for me. I enjoy myself, I get rewarded for supporting my team as a medic, and I kick ass... so I really couldn't care less who's "copying" who.
