Hometown: Opelucid City
Biography: Kairi was born a single child in the busy city of Opelucid, where she was raised early to appreciate the power of Pokemon, especially those of the Dragon type, thanks to the Gym Leader Iris and her apprentices. Her parents had both been trainers, but once they settled down as a couple they gave up the path to raise a family. From the very beginning she has loved Pokemon, and as she has grown her love has not dimished in the slightest. At the tender age of four, she made the declaration that she would become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the 'whole wide world', but at age six, she seemed to calm down a little more, and simply wanted to settle on becoming a great trainer. She studied hard in school and happily soaked up all of the lessons, both Pokemon and Human related. Her tomboyish attitude allowed her to fit in like a shoe with the boys, and she would always run and play with them while also getting into mischief.
At eight, she started seriously thinking about what it would mean to become a trainer. Leaving the home, becoming completely reliant on oneself in terms of where to go or who to see. She couldn't go unprepared, and she knew that she would have to eat the most, so she took to learning how to cook. This was something that she excelled at. Whether it was cooking cookies, sandwiches or ramen, she always gave it a certain something that made it delicious. She also had a habit of going out and trying to find different seasonings on her spare time.
Her parents always knew that their daughter was looking forward to the time she would finally leave the nest as a trainer, and because of this, her father passed on the baby of his prized Ninetales to his daughter on her ninth birthday. He told her that the Vulpix was her very first Pokemon, and that she was going to have to take care of it well if she was going to be a trainer. From feeding her to training her, Kairi took her responsibilities seriously and worked hard to build a relationship with her Vulpix. As a habit, she would ask the Pokemon League hopefuls passing through to help her get stronger by battling with her and Vulpix. Not once did she win, of course, but she always gained a lesson from each battle. She even challenged Iris to a battle once, and during this battle she became friends with the young Leader. She lost that battle as well.
After that, Iris took to teaching her more about Pokemon, from how to avoid certain status effects all the way to when the best time to use a potion was. Under Iris, Kairi learned a lot. She would learn her hardest lesson when she turned ten however. The lesson of becoming a Trainer and leaving the home, and all of the protection that she had taken for granted. It was tough going for a while, and she would often go a few days with only the natural surroundings to live off of. She loved every minute of it though, and together with her Vulpix she explored and learned.
Now twelve, she stands at the port town of Aquamar City after hearing that it was a completely new area to explore. In the past two years she had explored much of her homeland, and even traveled to the Kanto region, but only for a month or two. She had first heard about the Gensia Region on a trip to Castelia City, where a pair of trainers had said they were going to check it out. Curious and excited, she followed them to the docks and used some of her savings to buy a ticket. Her Vulpix still beside her, she was ready to face whatever challenges would be put in her way.
Notes: All of Kairi's clothes have a Pokemon print on them. On her shorts, there's a Squirtle on the right leg and her shirt has a Vulpix on it.
You get a cookie if you see what I did there for the inventory. ^^ I hope that my character is acceptable!
Is the image that you linked to something that you have drawn yourself? I am only asking since it doesn't match up all that much with your description of the character´s appearance.
Clearly a lot of effort has gone into putting everything together. This looks very fun, and I would be honored to be allowed to participate in it. Here is my character application.
Name: Jake Hills Age: 18 Sex: Male Appearance: Jake is roughly 1.8 meters tall with a slim build and a relaxed posture. He has dark brown skin and almond colored eyes. His hair is dark and styled in neatly kept dreadlocks which he usually pulls back behind his head. He has low check bones and a slightly square chin.
Jake wears a plain white t-shirt with cargo shorts and a pair of white running shoes. He carries all of his supplies in a large red backpack.
Personality: Quick witted and full of curiosity, Jake is always eager to start a new adventure. He is particularly fond of the outdoors, and spends most of his free time outside working on his latest painting or sketch. He is exceptionally creative and intensely dedicated to whatever task he sets out in front of him. These characteristics are reflected in the quality of all of his paintings.
Jake is highly intelligent and possesses an almost insatiable thirst for knowledge. He is also very kind and generous, always willing to help someone in need. He tries his best to be humble and was taught from a very young age not to take anything for granted.
Jake is hesitant in meeting new people and making new friends. Around his family and friends he is comfortable and able to relax and be himself. However he becomes shy and quiet among people he doesn?t know. He is painfully insecure when it comes to his abilities as a trainer and an artist, refusing to let anyone he doesn?t know very well even look at his sketches.
This insecurity causes Jake to be constantly worried about the opinions of his peers. His lack of confidence leads him to take unnecessary risk and make poor decisions in order to prove himself to others.
Profession: Rookie Trainer/ Aspiring Painter
Talents: Jake is a talented artist, excelling specifically in painting. His preferred subject is Pokémon in their natural habitat. His creativity allows him to think of innovative ways to solve problems and resolve conflicts. Jake is also a moderately strong swimmer.
Starter Pokémon: Growlithe, male (No Nickname). His moves are bite and roar. His ability is flash fire. During battles Growlithe is headstrong and very proud. Outside of battle Growlithe is playful and energetic. Unlike his partner Jake, he does not take losing well. When Growlithe is upset or angry at Jake he is prone to sulking and outright ignoring his partner. Jake has tried repeatedly to give Growlithe a nickname, however Growlithe simply refuses to acknowledge any of them.

Hometown: Slateport, Hoenn
Biography: Born the only son of Helena and Henrick Hills, Jake led a rather sheltered and comfortable childhood in Slateport. His parents owned a restaurant named The Red Cradaunt together. While it didn?t make them rich it did allow them to live without need. Both of his parents were loving and attentive, if not a little over protective of their little boy. Jakes Uncle, Sebastian was also a significant part of Jake?s childhood and a source of inspiration for the young boy. An accomplished Pokémon trainer, Sebastian would share stories of his adventures whenever he visited his young nephew.
Even at a young age Jake was fascinated Pokémon and looked forward to his uncles visits with breathless anticipation. It was this love for Pokémon that fueled his early works of art. Young Jake would spend hours illustrating his uncle?s adventures and imagining new adventures of his own. This fascination with trainers did not go unnoticed by Jake?s father, who soon made it clear how much he disapproved of trainers.
Determined to sway his son from what he considered a childish fantasy, Henrick did everything he could do stop his son from becoming a trainer. Henrick explained that being a trainer wasn?t as remarkable as his brother or the television made it out to be. A trainer was always on the move, and was always far from home and family. Henrick convinced Jake to put his dreams of being a trainer on hold, until his eighteenth birthday. If he still wanted to be a trainer by then, his father agreed to support him.
While waiting for his chance to become a trainer, Jake worked at his family?s restaurant and developed his skills as an artist. When he had to work he would listen to trainers passing through Slateport on and learn everything he could from them about Pokémon. On his off days he would spend the entire day at the beach, painting the wingulls as they flew against the setting sun.
Finally his eighteenth birthday arrived and he was free to set off on his own adventure. Despite his father?s clear disapproval, Jake was given his parents blessing to go off on his own journey. Jake?s uncle Sebastian even gave Jake his first Pokémon to celebrate the occasion. With Growlithe by his side and adventure in his heart, Jake set off to Gensia in order to forge his own adventure.

Appearance: 6'3", 157 lbs. with a very narrow, lanky frame and little to no muscle definition. He has medium black hair that often falls over his dark green eyes. No facial to speak of, save for the occasional sprouts on his chin and upper lip which he is generally quick to shear off. Is usually seen with a button-down shirt of some color - usually black, grey, or white (a common feature of each being two vertical stripes running down from the shoulders) - along with denim jeans and black skater shoes. Wears a black polyester jacket when out and about, as rare as that may be. Also wears rimless glasses with transition lenses and a black Pokétch with a thick red stripe in the middle of the band.
Personality: Somewhat of an anti-social kid, has always found the company of Pokémon more interesting than that of other people. Hometown: Jubilife City, Sinnoh
Biography: He was born to Susan, a skilled programmer working for the Pokétch Company, and Thomas, one of Pokétch Company's lead electronics technician. Susan started working from home shortly after Caleb's birth so she could take care of him while Thomas has maintained his position within the company throughout Caleb's youth. Caleb was taught to read at a very young age and he had shown his eager willingness to learn quite clearly. They put him into schooling early on and he adapted well to the learning environment, though with a notable lack of sociabilty. His interest in Pokémon began when he first set eyes on his primary school's teacher's Farfetch'd that roosted atop the teacher's desk. As inquisitive as he was, he refrained from asking about it, at least for the time being. He kept to his studies until curiosity got the better of him at the end of one day at school, he stayed after class and a seemingly endless stream of questions about the Pokémon was spilled before his teacher. Caleb's teacher told him that in just a few years' time, he had the option of becoming a Pokémon Trainer and seeing all kinds of them in his travels. Young Caleb brought this newfound knowledge to his parents and told them what he wanted to do. They preferred that he pursue a higher education before making any decisions of the sort. Having the utmost respect for his parents' wishes, he did just that. During his short and very successful high school career, something happened to him that changed his life forever.
It was any regular summer's day when Caleb was with his dad, touring the facility that housed the source of power for the Pokétch Company building. While Thomas was preoccupied with assisting one of the technicians, Caleb wandered off to see the facility on his own. Caleb stepped into a room of generators when the lights began flickering and he heard something moving around, making noises that seemed almost cheerful. He peered around one of the generators' platforms and his eyes widened in surprise at what he saw. There was an Elekid, a young one from the looks of it, drawing electricity from a generator and rocking back and forth as if it was playing in the powerful currents. It didn't take long before the Elekid realized it was being watched and put its fun on hold. Its eyes met with Caleb's and the boy stepped out from the corner and smiled at the Pokémon. The Pokßmon seemed just as curious as the boy, though much bolder as it had begun moving closer to him. Caleb was uncertain how to approach the Elekid, but he only had to take a few steps forward before they were right in front of one another. Cautiously, Caleb knelt and slowly extended a hand out to the Pokémon. The Elekid reached out with its own and lightly touched the boy's hand with one of its claws. Immediately, a jolt of electricity surged through Caleb's body and knocked him several feet back, as well as unconscious.
Caleb awoke the next morning in a hospital bed with his parents and, surprisingly, the Elekid in the room. His father explained how he found Caleb with the Pokémon beside him, as if it was watching over him while he was unconscious. Thomas only thought it fair that Caleb meet his 'guardian' that had almost killed him. Caleb was quick to ask the question both Susan and Thomas knew was coming: "Can I keep him?" The answer was, of course, a knowingly unavoidable 'yes'. From that day forward, Caleb made it his goal to see every single Pokémon the world had in store - after finishing his studies of course. As knowledgeable as Caleb was, he graduated early with high honors and had intended on leaving home almost immediately. Unsurprisingly, having no plan or heading, this concerned his parents greatly. They told him a journey like this would require a lot of preparation, and that took time.
Days went by as Caleb studied what was necessary to become a successful Pokémon Trainer, learning what might take anyone else weeks as he analyzed relentlessly. It didn't take long for him to prepare the gear that he felt he needed, leaving just a direction to be found. There were rumors as of late of the region of Gensia, a place where Pokémon once thought to be familiar had all sorts of strange, previously unheard of qualities. This interested Caleb greatly, he felt that there was much to learn in Gensia and he wanted to discover as much of it as he could. He found a ferry that could take him to Aquamar, a city that was said to be the best place to begin one's journey of the region. It was settled that he would set off for what he would hope to be an interesting adventure, so he said his goodbyes to his parents and began his personal quest for knowledge.
Notes: Just hours into the trip, Caleb quickly discovered that he gets seasick quite easily. Spike rarely enjoys being kept in his Poké Ball and is commonly seen walking alongside Caleb. Spike is generally happy to act as Caleb's assistant when working on something, generally fetching tools from their case, most of which he (Spike) is still working on differentiating.

Well, I am unsure whenether it follows the character creation guidelines properly. Specifically this emboldened part:
CounterAttack said:
Appearance: Describe your character's looks. Things such as height, weight, preferred choice of clothing, hairstyle and eye colour come to mind here. Please do not just post a picture for your character's appearance, for two reasons: first, I would like to see original characters and not just copies of others from anime and suchlike. Second, a picture does not give me enough information to work with. You may use a picture if you so desire, but it must be supplementary rather than the focus of the Appearance section.

Image wasn't drawn by me. I used it as more of a starting point for her, rather than using the actual picture. Think of it as just using her body, and taking the rest from there in text. Was the rest of the profile acceptable? ^^
Well, I am unsure whenether it follows the character creation guidelines properly. Specifically this emboldened part:

I think that rule applied to ward off people from just using a pic and no description in words. I could be wrong though.
@OP I added a diary to her inventory since I forgot to put it in initially. She writes in it every night before sleeping. Kinda like saving her progress! XD
Appearance: 4' 3" and 72 lbs, Kairi [http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo252/Nekochild08/Chibi.jpg] appears to be the very definition of a tomboy. With short brown hair that falls down to her shoulders and wide blue eyes, she looks at the world as one large playground to be explored. Her clothes usually consist of red bicycle shorts with a matching t-shirt, as well as white sneakers with a Masterball design on opposite sides of each shoe, left being on the left side, and right being on the right. During the chilly seasons, she will don warmer attire, such as long pants and a jacket, all of which are tucked in her backpack, which is red with a Riolu giving the peace sign on the center.
Profession: Rookie Trainer
Talents: Kairi has always had a natural talent for cooking, and being on her own for the past two years (save the occasional friend to travel with), she has only learned to develop that talent even more, using the herbs and spices of various regions to create delicious dishes for both humans and Pokemon.
Starter Pokemon: Vulpix: Ember, Tail Whip; ability Flash Fire
Inventory:
5 Pokeballs
2 Potions
1 Flashlight
A small bag containing various herbs and spices from various regions, used for cooking.
Clothes (long sweat pants and a snow jacket, as well as plenty of spare underwear and socks)
Food and drinks (Riceball/donut, Potato Chips, Lemonade and sandwiches to last three days.)
Tied on the left side of her backpack is a sleeping bag with a Pikachu design on it.
Tied to the right side is a bag filled with cooking pots and utensils.
Her wallet contains P$2000.
This seems really interesting, I RP quite a lot but never actually done this kind of RP. Bit of a shame so many people want to start with Ghost types. I guess I'll go with ground or steel if I give a go at this too, provided it's still open at that point of course. Also need to know if these RP sessions will be possible for me if I work until 5 PM everyday except for week ends.

I'm not the GM, so don't take my word on this, but usually the good RP's don't get updated so frequently that you get left behind when coming back from work, not to mention others may be in the same boat anyway.
And I think the GM is from New Zealand, so I have no idea what time it might be where he is when it's 5PM your time, but differing time zones are something that pretty much every RP has to deal with, it's usually not an issue unless it's one of those RP's where people are posting every 5 minutes, and those tend to die pretty quickly.
Well that's good, I was worried I would be left behind.
By the way, does anyone know what we are in for gym wise? It seems unlikely that a group of 6-12 trainers will only have one candidate interested in gym battles or contests, meaning that each gym has more than one character challenging it.
EDIT: Just realized there are quite a few researchers amongst the group, so it may not be as large a problem as I first thought

The people I accept into Battlegrounds will be informed of details such as the Gym Leaders, the order in which I intend for the characters to challenge them, the Elite Four, and the team of 'bad guys' that call Gensia their home.
On the subject of accepted characters, I am waiting for three people to post their characters before I pass final judgement on all the characters that have been submitted.

Thanks. That answered quite a bit for me. Sadly, I had to be quite hasty last time I wrote so I had little time to look over it, and I forgot to mention where I live, derp. Aside for that, in my glorious rush I forgot to take into account that not everyone live in Sweden. Still sounds interesting though. I'll have to mull it over, otherwise it's tough luck.
I'll give this a shot. Question! Are we following Pokemon rules of ridiculousness for humans? Ie: Nonstandard colors/enormous hair/etc. being perfectly normal. If not, Her hair is inky black.
EDIT: Added character notes and tweaked inventory. I hope the DM doesn't think my character is a "Downer"...
EDIT 2: Tweaked backstory
Name: Keira Clarus Gender: Female Age: 17 Appearance: A short girl of 5" 3', with long dark blue hair, medium-gray eyes, tanned skin and weighs around 140 pounds. This hair is typically kept in a ponytail or braid, with a black hair-tie. Keira prefers clothes with mobility and comfort more than style; so she typically wears plain light colored tee-shirts or tank-tops with running shorts and athletic-oriented shoes; occasionally donning a white baseball-cap to keep the sun out of her eyes. In colder climes, she will done a heavy coat and sweatpants.
Finishing her ensemble is a gray traveling backpack with many pockets for all sorts of needs. Keira wears 6 Pokeballs on a belt around her waist, where she can quickly access her team. Any spares are in the pack. Keira also has a PokeGear, with which she can keep in contact with her parents and use in case of an emergency.
Personality: An laid-back loner, typically going with the flow of a situation, and improvising to deal with difficulties as they come; Keira has always been one for doing things her way; no matter how strange it appears to others around her. That being said, Keira finds it easier to connect with Pokemon than dealing with people, and has a hard time opening up to humans. As a result, she has little social interaction. Or, at least as little as she can hope to work with.
This has proven to be a bit of a problem, especially when social norms, and things people "Do" or "Don't Do" don't apply to her (in her mind). Keira is blunt in what she says, and is brutally honest. Conversely, Keira seems to know her way around Pokemon; easily understanding what a Pokemon is feeling by their body language and vocalizations they create.
If anything, Keira wants to learn understand as many Pokemon as she possibly can, and aid her parents in their research. Going to Gensia gives her the opportunity to find many new kinds of Pokemon and learn how their behavior is different from the ones at home.
Proffesion: Pokemon Researcher/Trainer Hometown: Cinnabar Island Talents: Keira has a better endurance and pain threshold than most; and is willing to take the things dished out to her. However, this makes her a little careless.
-After spending a great amount of time with Pokemon as a child, Keira has a pretty good idea of their behaviors and body language. Starter Pokemon: Genbu the Squirtle (male)
Moves:
-Tackle
-Tail Whip
-Mist
As to whether Genbu stays in his Pokeball or not: Keira tends to have him stay outside with her, walking by Keira's side. If he gets tired and the two are still journeying; Keira will return him to his Pokeball.
Inventory: Inventory:
- 12 Poké Balls
- 8 Potions
- 3 each of Paralyse Heals and Burn Heals
- 3 Antidotes
- Food for herself. Genbu is able to hunt.
- Metal water bottle
- A week's worth of clothing and personal care items
- A sleeping bag and collapsible tent
- Pocket Knife for skinning/snares/camping needs
- Pot and various cooking implements
- Flint
- Map of Kanto and Gensia
- 2000 P$, half in cash and the other half in credit
- Journal for notes about Pokemon behavior. Has a whole section devoted to human behavior.
Biography: From a young age, Keira was an extremely active only child. Running, jumping and swimming around Cinnabar Island, often taking off for 'safaris'. Keira always preferred to go alone, as it was easier to spot Pokemon that way. She enjoyed watching them take on their daily routine, and noted how different it was from how people acted. Furthermore, her parents researched Pokemon in an isolated facility, and they encouraged her to take notes about the local fauna. It is at the facility the family lived, as many other researchers did, and it is the wild that Keira has considered her home.
Her childhood was a blur of camping and observing Pokemon while her parents, Rebecca and William, did their work in the facility, seeing how well different species of Pokemon bred together, as well as what dictated the species of the children. Meanwhile, Keira committed research of her own, in an unorthodox manner. In the years that she had grown and explored the wilds of Cinnabar, Keira noticed that the Pokemon there were friendlier to her as opposed to less frequented places. In these friendlier patches of wild, Keira played with the fauna that had grown used to her, joining them in contests of physical skill, such as swimming or climbing. For a long time, Keira found herself bested by the Pokemon, but over a period of years with these familial groups, she grew to be a close match for some of the Pokemon in these little contests, but found that she enjoyed the Pokemon far more than the people of the facility.
Rebecca and William found themselves in a bit of a predicament. Being that the two were very busy people, they were not able to watch their only daughter play outside and make sure she stayed out of trouble. This lead to a quick purchase of a PokeGear, and a tutor who would teach her survival skills alongside the typical education material. This allowed for Keira to stay in the wilds she called home as well as preventing any sort of problems regarding supervision or staying safe.
This woman would become more a mother to Keira than Rebecca, and taught Keira everything she knew about surviving alone. Even if she did play outside all the time, Keira did bring supplies from the facility to her play areas, such as food and water. The tutor, Claire, was a very patient and kind woman, and understood her charge's wants very well, especially in regards to want to learn and understand about Pokemon. In her youth, Claire was a Ranger of Almia, and was the prime candidate as a survival specialist, as well as showing Keira a thing or two about understanding Pokemon.
Claire's patience was often tested by her charge. Keira, being the way she was, often wandered off to play or observe the Pokemon when she was supposed to be in 'class', and needed to be dragged back to the campsite. Furthermore, Keira did not really have any aspirations for herself as a child. With little contact with people and the world, and little care for it, Claire found it hard to motivate the child into wanting anything for herself, save for living with her 'friends'.
With some thought, persistence, and inquiry, Claire was finally able to break through to Keira that perhaps there was more than just Cinnabar, with more Pokemon to see and become friends with. This appealed to Keira greatly, and after that, had a yearning she never thought was possible: She wanted to leave Cinnabar Island.
Years passed with Claire and the Pokemon, and at the age of 17 (and subsequent graduation from school), Keira asked her parents if she could leave Cinnabar to learn about other Pokemon as she did at home. To her surprise, they told her yes, and pointed her in the way of Gensia; as they did not have any researchers in their company there. With their blessing, they gave her the supplies she would need, and choice of one of the baby Pokemon that was not needed for research. After careful consideration, Keira chose a baby Squirtle that was borne of a union of a Blastoise and Lapras. Nothing overtly extraordinary about him, but Keira was attracted by the fact she had never seen a Squirtle before; and wanted to watch him grow as she would in Gensia. The Squirtle, which was christened by Claire as 'Genbu' after a legendary Blastoise in the Pokemon League, quickly bonded with the Pokemon Observer and was want to never leave his new trainer's side.
With a subdued goodbye from her birth parents, and a far more emotional one from Claire; Keira took several ferries, what with transfers and all, to the Gensia region. With Genbu as her sole companion, Keira wouldn't have it any other way.
Notes: -When I say Keira is isolated, I mean it. She has not known anyone outside of the people of the research facility, and is weary of strangers. She's not going to flee on sight or anything; but she will be very careful around people, probably treating them like an unknown species of Pokemon: with a bit of careful curiosity.
- Has an mildly strained relationship with her parents. As mentioned in the Bio above, Keira sees her tutor Claire as more of a parent than Rebecca and William; and sees her calling them more along the lines of 'status reports' than checking in with them. Thus, she reserves her calls for Claire most of the time; only calling her parents when she has some new research on hand.
This definitely looks like fun... I hope I'm not posting my sheet too late. I've never done a forum-based RP before, but I'm definitely open to it, and I've waded through enough Pokemon games to know the rules, lore, etc.
Edit: Thanks to the courtesy of a fellow Escapist, I've learned how to stick a title onto a spoiler. My character sheet is below.
Name: Caius Pillory Age: 20 Sex: Male
Appearance: Caius, a fair-skinned man of Hispanic descent, is unusually tall, standing somewhere in the vicinity of 6'3". He's lanky, and his size renders him quite awkward. He has small, brown eyes, and he keeps his equally brown hair trimmed very short at all times. He likes to wear jackets, even when it's not particularly cold out; in extremely hot weather, he is known to occasionally forgo the jacket and wear merely a long-sleeved shirt. His closet is full of jeans; they're the only pants he wears, likely because they're simple and match with everything. Some claim that Caius has worn the same black sneakers for several years straight. Caius likes to think that, in appearance, he is nondescript and dreadfully average. Others would be inclined to disagree, taking into consideration his size and his odd dress sense.
Personality: Caius never was the biggest socialite. As a matter of fact, some consider him to be quite a nerd. Having grown up with comparatively few friends, he has learned to remain quiet in social situations for fear of being mocked or ignored altogether. When goaded by an interesting topic of discussion, however, Caius is sometimes known to spill out chatter like a broken flood gate; once Caius gets going on an intelligent discussion, he often doesn't stop talking until he is mocked, ignored, or otherwise, whereupon he returns to his shell. When put under pressure, Caius can be known to break down and act rashly. Generally, Caius is cordial towards strangers -- that is to say, he is when he's not avoiding them altogether.
Profession: Caius comes from a long line of Pokemon breeders, but in spite of having spent his entire childhood learning the craft, he has recently acquired the aspiration to become a Gym Leader.
Talents: When asked about his talents, Caius may mention retrieving something from a particularly high shelf. Humbly, however, he won't mention his innate ability to "communicate" with Pokemon; that is to say, although Caius cannot speak to Pokemon, he can read their body language very effectively, and is thus an impeccable caretaker of such creatures. He is also very smart, and is capable of learning and retaining new information with unmatched speed and thoroughness.
Starter Pokemon: Trubbish. His two moves are Pound and Poison Gas. His Ability is Stench.
Inventory: Having left home in a hurry, Caius is severely ill-equipped for survival. He hopes to be able to purchase whatever else he may need once he arrives in Gensia.
-10 Poke Balls
-3 Oran Berries
-3 Pecha Berries
-3 Cheri Berries
-One Potion
-One Antidote
-One down jacket
-One turkey and cheese sandwich
-Obligatory Pokedex
-P$1500
Hometown: Caius, like his forefathers, was a proud denizen of Petalburg City in the Hoenn region.
Biography: Up until now, Caius has led a simple life with a single father. He was born on a ranch, grew up on a ranch, and some predict he will die on a ranch. This ranch, of course, was devoted to the breeding and raising of Pokemon. In spite of his environment, Caius never learned to battle Pokemon; the Pokemon on the ranch were sold to other trainers who passed through Petalburg in order to keep the wolves from the door. Because of his upbringing, Caius is relatively uneducated in most fields (with the biggest exception being Pokemon, of which Caius has a vast collection of knowledge). Only recently, when Caius turned 19, did he become interested in battling Pokemon. After doing business with the local Gym Leader, Norman, Caius acquired a longing desire to become a Gym Leader himself. Of course, most aspiring Gym Leaders got their start at a much earlier age than Caius, and therefore, they have a leg up on the competition. This is what Caius's father tried to explain to him one day after Caius turned 20. Afraid that Caius would stray from the family business -- Pokemon breeding -- the elder Mr. Pillory tried to dissuade his son from battling Pokemon, instead asking him to stay on the ranch and to let go of such adventurous notions. Caius, acting rashly under pressure, would not relent. After this quarrel escalated, Caius grabbed his loyal companion, Trubbish, from the fields, loaded up on a small amount of gear, and ran away from home. He did not know where he was going. After a sojourn in Dewford, where Caius had an inspiring discussion with the Brawley, the local Gym Leader, Caius set his heart on achieving something big. He wanted to battle Pokemon and prove his prowess to the world. And where better to get the world's attention than the bustling metropolis of Topasa City? On the search for glory and adventure, as well as a way to prove his father wrong, Caius caught the next ferry to the unfamiliar region of Gensia.
Notes: Caius is particularly fond of fast food and watermelon. His sense of smell is appalling, which explains why he can bear to lug around his friend Trubbish. He is also in love with a girl from Petalburg, although he has abandoned all hope for winning her heart; she is simply in a league of her own.
Appearance: Robyn stands at 5'9", and weighs 118 lbs. She is of African-American descent, her skin is a light brown, and she has blue eyes. She wears her black hair pulled back in a ponytail that ends at her shoulder blades, but leaves the bangs hanging out front. She has tattoos of the Chinese symbols for determination and dance on the lower left and right sides of her back, and she has a large scar on her right leg, around the knee.
Her outfits consist of a variety of plain low-cut t-shirts, zipper up hooded sweatshirts with a variety of graffiti-styled designs on them, and shorts that barely go halfway down her thighs. The constants in her outfit are a bright red scrunchie that she uses to keep her ponytail in place, a gold plated chain carrying a pendant with an aquamarine stone set inside of it, and a bulky black brace that is fitted on her right knee.
Personality: Robyn has a tendency to be a little bit ditzy in social situations, but that doesn't hamper her energy levels. She's still willing to give as much as she can to whatever cause she sets her mind to, be it making a sandwich or trying to be a Pokemon League champion. However, that raw passion can get it into a lot of trouble at times, as she tries to step beyond her limits or into situations she doesn't really understand.
The other side to her passion means that she is quick to learn whatever she can about the field she is in. It was how she was able to become so good at crew dancing in a relatively short amount of time, and why she is relatively knowledgeable on Pokemon in Unova. She is quick to share info with whoever is around, even if they don't ask for it. This also means that she is not very good at keeping secrets. In her blonder or drunker moments, she'll be blurting out confidential information without realizing it.
Nina is very important to her. Most of the time, she will carry Nina around in her arms, even dropping one of her headphones down to let her listen to the music with her.
Profession: Robyn thought about Coordinating, but Trainers make the big bucks, so she that is the path she's chosen.
Talents: Having spent a lot of her rehab time reading in her room, Robyn has all the technical knowledge on how to be a trainer, yet none of the street smarts of the profession. She was an outstanding dancer before the accident happened, but now her lateral movement is shot. As long as she has her brace on though, she can still run at a very good clip.
Starter Pokemon: Nina, a female Petilil. Her moves are Absorb and Growth. Her ability is Own Tempo. She has a couple of notches on the middle leaf on her head that have not regrown after regeneration attempts.
Inventory: Robyn has the following in her converted laptop bag:
- 7 Poke Balls
- 3 Potions
- 2 Antidotes
- 1 Full Heal
- A plastic water bottle, courtesy of Castelia Cone
- Four days worth of outfits as well as as pair of hooded sweatshirts, and one two piece swimsuit.
- A sleeping bag, which doubles as her clothes bag.
She is never seen without her Xtransceiver, or her Mp3 player, the headphones of which are perpetually dangling over her shoulder if they are not in her ears. She withdrew her life savings for this adventure, as well as pooled the money earned by her crewmates, which amounted to P$2500.
Hometown: Castelia City, Unova
Biography: Robyn was the third child born to a low income family on the Eastern side of Castelia City. Her father was a construction worker, helping build the skyscrapers that towered over the city while her mother stayed at home and looked after her and her three siblings. Despite not having much money, Lisa Springs always looked after her kids before herself. She made sure they each were given the tools to make successes of their lives. Robyn identified her chosen path earlier than the other children, after watching a production of Swanna Lake on TV when she was 4. She wanted to dance.
Robyn's entertainment budget went into ballet classes at a studio down town starting at five years old. She showed a natural talent at even the more complicated moves executed at that age, and was a rising star in the field. But as she progressed further in levels, she started to realize that there was a ceiling to ballet that the prevailing culture in Unova would not care to raise while there were dancers gyrating their hips in music videos and behind the stars du jour. She was a bit dismayed until she travelled with the family to one of her younger brother's basketball practices when she was 16.
While basketball did not hold her attention for a minute, she roamed the halls of the East Castelia Community Center, and found something that did pique her interest. In one of the side rooms, a group of kids her age were dancing, but also doing flips and performing moves that displayed a lot of acrobatic and technical skill. She entered intrigued, and they explained how they were a dance crew, looking at eventually performing stage shows on Mode Street. Robyn was interested because it looked like she had found a way to put her dancing skills to use on a more fame-attractive path. The group was interested in having her because it finally meant they had a girl in the squad. So after finishing her final couple of ballet classes, she left the organized dance world and joined her first and only crew, Rock Sturdy.
The crew met and practised often over the next two years, making extra money by busking on Unity Pier. Robyn was able to combine the positioning and technique she gained from ballet with the raw athleticism and energy of the crew to become one of the star dancers in Rock Sturdy. They did very well with the street money but still weren't getting any closer to a Mode Street show. However, fate brought another way. Unova was getting it's own regional version of Dance Crew Dance Off, and the auditions were being held in Castelia. This was the shot. Rock Sturdy doubled the practices to get ready, and they were granted an audition in front of the celebrity panel.
They knew the routine they were going to do, although Robyn was a little worried about her part, since she was going to be sent skyward in order to stand out from the other crews, and she had never attempted anything above what she could normally jump. However the training runs went well, and the double back flip she was going to attempt to land was rehearsed multiple times with in the gymnastic center's sponge pit. She even got pep talks from the crew's leader, Rolla. He assured her, "Springs, we're gonna be there for you. Solid. You won't get hurt." Famous last words.
The time came, and the audition went smoothly, up until the big finale. Golem was going to be the one tossing Robyn into the air, he was the strongest member of the team, and they had work to make sure he would be able to control his toss to give Robyn enough time to rotate properly for a landing. Maybe the pressure of appearing on stage got to Golem. Maybe his hands had gotten a bit too sweaty. But when the time came to make the toss, something went wrong and he was light. Too light.
Robyn knew something was wrong when her foot left his hand, but she tried to make it work. For the team. She got the first flip in fine, but with the poor throw, she didn't have near enough time to get the second one in. She was coming around on the second rotation when she saw the floor coming too quickly. She tried to break her fall with her hands, but her legs got there first. Just coming out of the tuck, her right knee slammed into the concrete floor they were dancing on, doing the wrong kind of popping and unlocking, followed by her arms. She crumpled in a heap, and the audition was suddenly over.
Robyn was rushed into surgery where it was discovered that not only had her ACL and MCL been torn, but the patella had dislocated so badly it had torn that tendon as well. Doctors spent six hours reconstructing Robyn's knee, and then that's all her family's flimsy HMO would cover. It had gotten to the point where it was now technically together, but it was so unstable that one wrong step was liable to knock her knee right out again. The family's meagre savings could only buy a clunky brace that was fitted to keep Robyn's leg intact, but it was clear her dancing career had come to an abrupt end.
Rehab was painful. Robyn spent the first month just learning to stand again on her leg, complicated by the broken wrists she sustained. It was the first time in her life that she actually felt shaken in her belief, that she could do whatever she was asked to do. It took a couple months before she could finally walk at a pace to match her siblings again, at which point, the insurance company said that was good enough and stopped paying for it. Robyn was sent home at approximately 50% capacity.
She spent the next week moping at home, in the deepest funk when her mother had finally had enough. Lisa told her that she had spent too much time working on her talents to just give up on them so easily. She made her run every errand, do every mobile chore, to try and build her leg back up. When she didn't come back in a respectable time, Lisa berated her. This continued for a few months, until finally, Robyn couldn't take it any more. There was a massive fight and Robyn took off, just wanting to get away from the oppressive atmosphere.
She took off down towards the pier, then reaching a dead end there she turned east and ran across Skyarrow Bridge and into Pinwheel Forest. It was in the tall grasses that she finally collapsed in a fit of mental pain and physical pain. She sat there crying, cursing the world that had taken her freedom away, wallowing in her own despair until something came out of the grasses and collapsed against her. Looking down, she saw a Petilil, looking like it was in worse shape than she was, with scrapes all over it's body, purple stuff dripping out of the wounds, missing chunks of the leaves on its head. Robyn forgot about her own problems for a moment and picked up the injured Grass Pokemon. Knowing there was a Pokemon Center near the pier, Robyn headed back towards Castelia to try and see if there was help available for the little Petilil.
As she walked back, Robyn realized exactly what she had done in her fit of rage. When she was brought home from the hospital, she could barely walk around her block without feeling a great deal of pain. Now, she had been able to run all the way across the towering suspension bridge before stopping. Once back in Castelia, she got the Petilil to the Center and they were able to bring it back almost to full health, the middle leaf not healing the missing chunks in it. But still, it was bouncing up and down on the counter, happy as could be. Almost like it was dancing. Robyn smiled at seeing the previously battered Pokemon back to seemingly full health, for the first time since the accident she was uplifted by the turnaround. She thanked the nurses and brought the Petilil back home, intent on taking it back to the forest the next day.
Plans change though. In the night hours, Robyn watched the Petilil roam around her room, seemingly grateful to be out of the forest. As Robyn played her music, Petilil tried to move to it, but it seemed to be on it's own beat. By the time morning came around, Petilil was now Nina, and Robyn was intent on keeping her new friend around. She just had to convince her mother. Lisa had dismissed Pokemon training for years, saying it was a fool's errand to go around on it, and that it was too expensive. But when Robyn emerged in the morning, Nina in tow to plead her case, Lisa did see something she hadn't seen in Robyn in months. Her drive was back, and that alone outweighed the potential costs of caring for the Petilil. So, with some of her savings, Robyn purchased a Pokeball and Nina was officially part of the family.
A few days later, Rolla and the rest of Rock Sturdy dropped in on one of their usual visits. They had more good news for their fellow member. There had been progress made on an experimental new surgery to use Solosis cells to regenerate human limbs and tissues and they had begun taking up a collection to try and pay for it, since it was Golem's error that led to Robyn's current state. However, like most surgeries it was very expensive, and the cut they had raised had not even reached 1% of the funds needed. It was still a touching gesture and Robyn thanked them for the ray of hope. However, the money never seemed to flow into East Castelia, so it was likely a pipe dream.
A few weeks later, just as it had in her youth, TV served to inspire Robyn once again. Tired of being in the shadows of the other regions, Gensia was putting out the word that their League was up and running, and would be paying out handsome sums if Trainers could beat their cadre of Gym Leaders. This was the Golden Ticket Robyn had been looking for. It took a long discussion with her mother, but eventually she was given the go-ahead to try and make this work. After gathering what money she could, she bought a few supplies and headed out with Nina from her home port to Aquamar, intent on conquering the land in order to get back on her main path and to get her freedom back.
Appearance: Elias is of medium height and thin build. He stands at 5'8" and hovers around 145 lbs. He was born with light brown hair that has lightened over years of constant sun exposure. Elias' skin stays lightly tanned with a scattering of superficial scrapes and bruises on his arms and legs due to his climbing hobby. He wears or carries sunglasses with him at all times so his grey eyes are rarely seen. Though he shaves regularly Elias still ends up with trimmed scruff most days. He doesn't spend any time reading or caring about the latest fashions. He wears what is comfortable - shorts with multiple pockets and t-shirts with good sturdy shoes built to last through difficult weather and rough terrain. He wears carabiners hooked to at least two of his belt loops and a wristband made of cord. He also carries strips of cloth or an old t-shirt looped through his belt to help guard against sandstorms.
Personality: Elias likes to keep moving and is very curious by nature. He has a hard time sitting still and talking to people, but if they're willing to climb or hike with him he can hold a conversation that way. Elias has learned to act interested when visiting the art exhibits at the Studio but art - and artists - don't really interest him. He'd rather see live nature than pictures of nature. Elias enjoys rock and tree climbing and will carry his Sandile if it can't make the climb with him. Elias likes to try new things, whether it be a simple game of chance, sand-surfing, or eating raw fish. He likes to push himself to be better at the activities he enjoys, to climb a little bit farther every trip. A broken collarbone and sprained ankle taught him at a young age the importance of safety. Dune likes to lay out in the sun once Elias reaches his destination. Having the Pokémon along reminds Elias to take breaks and rest every once and a while.
Profession: Former café employee. Wanderer. Pokémon trainer.
Talents: Elias has a good sense of direction and can tell the time by the sun and stars. An odd trick he noticed in his teen years is that he can usually guess the current temperature within a few degrees. He's good at tying - and untying - knots and at identifying edible plants in desert enviroments. Dune is good at hiding and finding hidden objects in sand or loose dirt.

Biography: Elias was born and raised in Castelia City where his mother Ellen works as an assistant at Studio Castelia. Elias' biological father was a professional soccer player who Ellen met while retrieving some artwork in Nimbasa. When Elias was young he and his mother would travel to Nimbasa City to see his father play in the Big Stadium. If there was time after the game Tony would take them to the amusement park. Elias' parents never married - 'it wasn't in "Big Tony's" plans' is the phrase his mother liked to use. But Big Tony did send money to them after every winning game.
Elias received his first Pokémon, Sandile, as a birthday gift from his mother. He was seven, and confident that he wanted a sibling, even putting it above a shiny new bike on his wishlist. But Elias instantly bonded with his new friend and decided it was better than a little brother. At least for the time being. Elias was so excited by the Pokémon that he didn't notice that his father hadn't sent him a gift that year. With his new friend tagging along Elias began to explore Route 4 with some of his neighbor friends. The small trio of boys met some travelers, and trainers, and got to know the security guard at the route gate very well. Elias' mother tended to call the guard if she couldn't find Elias around the apartment complex.
At age ten Elias was sat down and carefully told that his father was no longer living in Nimbasa City. Tony had been traded to another team, in another region. Elias was saddened by the news, as he liked his weekend visits, but was promised that he'd be able to visit as soon as his father was settled in the new town. They never received Big Tony's new address.
Elias took a job at Café Sonata for his first 'real' summer job. He shuffled from cashier to busboy to waiter as the café needed. The steady though minimum wages he earned allowed Elias to save a decent amount of money for what he dubbed his eventual 'round the world' trip. His neighborhood friends were all busy planning for college and careers. Neither of which really interested Elias. He still wanted to go out and explore, as he'd been doing since childhood. His savings fund steadily grew. The first sizable dents came Elias purchased heavy duty goggles and better shoes. He saved most of the money he earned over several summers, only dipping into the account when he needed new equipment or supplies for school. With the constant stream of tourists visiting the city the café grew busier every year. After graduating high school Elias began working at the café full-time.
At nineteen Elias grew tired of living in the city. He much preferred exploring the desert roads and trails. But even those roads were getting crowded with tourists and biker gangs and one crazy archeologist who'd been living in the desert for months without finding anything substantial. Elias wanted somewhere new to explore. So he bought a ticket for the biggest boat in the city. He decided that he would keep traveling until he found someplace interesting to stop. His mother was now happily married to Gabriel Jackson - a low-level researcher at the Battle Company who loved his job and didn't care that he was on the first floor. Elias knew his mother was in good hands. Even so, Ellen didn't want her son to leave. It took several days for Elias' mother to accept his decision. During that time Gabriel made several shopping trips. He purchased a sturdy backpack and several items that he claimed would help Elias on his 'Pokémon journey'. Elias wasn't quite sure why his stepfather was excited by the idea but he accepted the items gladly. Among the gifts was a book on Pokémon Training Basics and a brand new set of shoes. Elias' mother bought him a C-Gear as a going-away present, programmed with their home number, the number for Gabriel's office, and several 'emergency numbers'.
Notes: After stopping in Icirrus to see what 'snow' was, Elias told the captain of the boat that he would pay P$50 to stay aboard until the farthest location on the ship's scheduled route. The destination Elias was given was Gensia.
