be honest: does your girlfriend accept you as a gamer?

I'm gonna turn this around.

My boyfriend? Sort of. We met on WoW, so that might seem like the hardest hurdle already jumped, and I guess that's true. Unfortunately, though he plays WoW and the occasional SP RPG, he's not really a "gamer" and not really into the culture. For my part, I quit WoW.

He appreciates that he has a gamer girlfriend, and loves that I'm nerdy in all sorts of ways. But he doesn't understand why I want a PS3 when we both have good gaming rigs already. He doesn't know anything about upcoming or recent games (except TOR, because it's Star Wars). Though we met because of a game, we have no real common gaming ground, so we never talk about it much and game seperately.

Fortunately, we both enjoy other things, too. In particular, we like the same movies and books. It works well. :)

My boyfriend WILL BE a gamer when I get one =D. I've had some bad experiences tho, so I'm chosing carefully =p.
Oh by the way I´ve been meaning to ask you?
What´s your avatar? I love it.
It's me in my catgirl maid cosplay. i added some strange effects to the picture to make it look a bit cartoony, i like that XD.

The one girlfriend I've had wasn't bothered by the fact I was a huge nerd. She was a bit of a book geek though, so we poked gentle fun at each other.

My gf played wow with me when I played it for a few months last year. She's not hardcore into gaming but she plays Red dead redemption and mario kart.

My girlfriend if fine with it to a point. She does not mind reading a book while i play a game. She sometimes plays with me. She was a little uneasy when a copy of wow entered her house as she has lost too many friends to it she clames and ye.

So ye she is ok with it, as long as i make the bed and do the dishes all is fine :)

All the boyfriends I've had have been gamers to some degree, but they would never appreciate losing to me, mainly because I was a girl. So I put this to you, guys...would you want a gamer girlfriend? And would you be okay with losing to her?
i think i would be ok losing to a girlfriend. but i think the real question is, would i be ok being absolutely destroyed in a videogame by a girlfriend, i'm not sure how well i would take a humiliating defeat
One of them broke up with me because I absolutely destroyed him in Halo. He said I was bad for his self-esteem.

ZOMG A GIRL HAIIIII

... Sorry I couldn't resist XP
You should resist. :p For girls online, it's become eyerollingly dull to hear that again and again and again... and again.... and again..... :T
I actually never get that.
But then again I suppose I don´t play Halo 3 anymore and don´t play any of the CoD games online =/
I used to play Counter Strike Source. I'd open my mouth, and everyone would go quiet. "OMG, was that a girl???" "Nah, some 3 year old." "lawl"

my eyes have nearly rolled out of their sockets.

Also bit of wisdom for you all, never show your girlfriend bayonetta...

I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife isn't so much of a gamer herself (she loves playing those Professor Layton games) but she loves watching games. She especially likes games with well developed stories like Mass Effect and Bioshock.

We both played the demo last year at a convention. She hated Bayonetta's running animation. It was pretty much a deal-breaker.

Yea, she aint keen on it, so I keep it on the dl, talk about it only with he brother, and just move on with my life. I feel like we will always have to do this stuff in secret, to an extent, whether it be golf, video games, or porn.

She isn't. Mostly she believes the stereotypes.
Sometimes though I don't like to admit it myself. This is pretty much the list why:

For the most part. She sometimes gets annoyed when I play it a lot because she may want the TV or she may just be tired of watching me, but otherwise she's supportive and thoughtful.

Yeah, probably should have made this article a little more gender neutral. We gotta acknowledge girl gamers too if we want to keep them, guys!

My fiancé gets pissy if I play something new co-op without him, like I'm cheating on him by playing a co-op game with my brother in-law before he gets a chance to play too. I know he wants to play too, and I guess the appeal of playing a new game is playing it with someone, but there are those times where I can't wait for him to get off of work or what have you.

The only time I get mad at him for gaming is if I'm talking to him and he's so obviously not paying attention to me while we're on the phone. Or if he's busy playing something while we're doing something else like playing D&D. Lately he was playing Pokémon while playing D&D, but that's over now since he managed to get all 493 into his Gold, all legit, ALL forms (each evolution separately...)

Our combined gaming collection is in around the 700s, so, yes I accept him and he accepts me as a gamer. I think he was was impressed with my can shaking skills when we first met... what? It was a minigame in Mario Party 8, no one was anywhere near us, and I barely edged him out. Haha.
