I'm not exactly old enough to grow a proper beard. I just get the annoying adolescent moustache and extended sideburns at the moment.

Yes, because I am a lumberjack. Thus, my beard is the pinnacle of raw and unfettered manliness.

Well yes, the growing of the beard is annoying for a while, what with the itching and the dirty looks from people and the disapproving comments from some, but once you have the beard, it's all worth it. I had a goatee through most of high school, ever since I could grow one.

Also, can I say I'm pleasantly surprised with the feedback I'm getting on my first thread? Thank you, internet friends for not just getting angry at me and calling me a n00b fag for this.
I'm a goatee man myself. I had a neatly trimmed beard for a while a la Russel Crowe in Gladiator (style wise anyway, didn't necessarily increase my brawling skills :p ) but it became a harrowing experience whenever a trim was required! I lacked the funding a the time to buy a proper beard trimmer.

I recently got out of a relationship where I was clean shaven. I cannot describe how much I loathe looking at my round, boyish face without facial hair... but it was either that or give herself a vicious beard rash.
Now I find myself questioning my decision, considering subsequent events.

Was I right to shave it off for my ex, or am I disgrace who should have his man cards taken from him?
Any constructive, non-flaming comments welcome.

I was so proud of that goatee... :-/
But... as much as I loved it for being so well grown out and trimmed to the Nth degree.... It's kinda cool watching it grow back :)

Like spring has come again :p

I'm not allowed to with my job. I'm a firefighter, and my mask will not create a proper seal without it, and I'm not going to breath that crap in, so I shave.
Is that why firemen/firefighters tend to opt for a moustache (they do in Ireland anyway) if they have any facial hair at all?

Sounds like the best reason for staying smoothe to me.

I'm a girl, so I do my very best to avoid growing facial hair. :p

However I must congratulate those bearded gentlemen that have offered their thoughts: before reading this thread I was strictly anti-beard, and you all have somewhat changed my mind in that regard.

Still hate mustaches though. Ugh.

Do I have a beard? Yes. Why? Shaving is expensive. Seriously, have you seen the prices on disposable razors lately?

Well the males on my improv comedy team seem to go through different phases of clean-shaven, stubble, and beard, though I keep my beard and love it. We actually made a joke while playing a game about using our "Utility Beards" One guy pulled rope out of his, I used mine as a bandage, and it was quite hilarious.

You're quite welcome for the change of mind. And I too am not a fan of just the mustache. I attempted to rock that look for a few months at my job, and it just looked creepy. I then went to the mustache and chin look (They don't fully connect yet) for a while, and was told that I looked like a musketeer. After that I decided on the full beard and haven't looked back.

I keep a neatly trimmed goatee on my chin. I did have a full beard last summer, but I didn't really like that. I never keep a mustache either because it itches.

N. I do not have a beard, I think it looks rather ridicilous to have a beard when you're just 16 years old. One of my friends has got a goatee, and he looks like a hobo or something.

No. I'm too young. And when I'm old enough I won't be able to anyway because I have a very very low bodily hair growth rate.

No, because of my school's rules. During the holidays, however I grow it to the point when it gets itchy, then I shave.

I don't have a beard yet. I'm quite young, so my mustache isnt thick enough and I have too little on the sides my mouth. Thus, I can't have a goatee, which is my beard of preference.

I've had a goatee since I was 15, it's how some people recognized me in highschool. The reason why I keep it is because I look about 4 years older with it, and 2 years younger without it.
