It's not cheating, per se, but somehow, you beat a boss or solved a puzzle in a way the game didn't really anticipate.

For example, in Majora's mask, when fighting Goht, instead of following him around the arena as a Goron, you can just stand in the doorway and peg him with Fire Arrows until he dies.

Or in FFVI, when fighting the Atma Weapon, if you work hard to get the proper items, your whole party can both float and have reflect on for the whole battle, meaning he can only attack physically, making the fight way easier?

When have you exploited a game's possibilities? Remember, this isn't about breaking a game or using cheats, it's all about exploiting what's already there.

Not quite the same, but I never managed to do the training minigame in No More Heroes to increase your katana's power, so each boss battle lasted a lot longer. I actually preferred it that way, cause the bosses were the entire point of the game and this way they had another layer of challenge.

Then again in FFVI, if you level up Sabin, give him the Genji Glove and the Master's Scroll then cast Quick on him the game officially has no challenge outside of the superbosses.

In Blood Omen two, there's a boss [can't remember his name] but if after the cut scene you do absolutly nothing then he basically kills himself by walking into the steam pipes

In Mask of the Betrayer, at one part midway in the game, you end up underground. There are two possible ways to end the sort of puzzle:
1) Kill a rock construct. This nets you 100K gold but you lose out on some unique loot.
2) Go slowly and and drain the water levels. This earns you the treasure, but you lose the money.

I positioned my characters so I was able to get all the treasure AND kill the construct. It took a lot of planing, but I did it.

In Tenchu Z you have to fight a boss on a ship. If you can back him into a corner and manage to knock him in to the air you can knock him over board and win the fight instantly. Made it so much easier.

You can do a similar thing with Locke. On the floating island, you can fight a creature called a Dragon. You can steal a Genji Glove from it, and you can fight as many of them as you want. Int hat way, I got Genji Gloves for everyone. With Locke, I gave him one and the Offering, and then the Atma Weapon and the Illumina. He attacks 8 times for 9999 damage each.

You steal an Economizer from one of the dinosaurs in the prehistoric forest. It is rare and difficult to get, but better than trading away the Gem Box in the arena. That way, Terra equipped with the Gem Box and Economizer means that you can pretty much cast as much magic as you like for only 1 mp each.

FFVI may well be the easiest game to break in the entire series. And unlike the Junction system, it doesn't require ages of magic grinding to do so.

Darth Sion in KOTOR can be beaten without ever hitting you with either his lightsaber or Force powers. Go evil, max out your Force related stats (going Consular and then Sith Lord help with this). When Kreia reveals her true self you get a power called Force Crush. With sufficient Force energy, you can chain-lock Sion with it till he dies on pretty much every difficulty with ease. (Only problem with this build is that it makes Kreia sooo much harder afterwards)

In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, most melee-orientated enemies can be defeated by finding something to jump up onto which they can't climb naturally and then plaster them with fire. There are a couple of good rocks near that Deathclaw nest on the east bank of the Colorado which allow you to pick of the Deathclaws (including the Alpha and Mothers) without ever being hit; they just run into the rocks below you and fail epically whilst you repeatedly headshot them. Doesn't work with guards in Oblivion though, as they seem able to teleport onto roofs and the like.

Crackdown 1:

After many attempts to get up his skyscraper I made it to Wang's rooftop garden/hideout. I took a couple of shots at him and his bodyguards when one of them must've tried to toss a grenade at me. He failed, instead dropping it along the ledge where they were hiding, setting off a chain of explosions which resulted in killing Wang and his bodyguards; I never even saw him until he was a burning corpse.

I did something similar in Jedi Academy. Using a double bladed sabre, I turned on Jedi Speed, got behind the boss and used a move that swings the sabre around the players body several times. Removed 2 limbs with one attack.

Portal 2, there's this relatively early test chamber

Rather than solving it the easy way (AKA the way done in the video), i used my powers of overcomplication to use the lazer cube as a step to portal the lazer to the destination through the tiny hole to make the emancipation grill and the entire of that side of the room completely irrelevent (since you're only meant to be able to use the hole from the far side of the room)

It took be half an hour to figure that out... My logic seems to start to fail on the simple things but goes into epic mode on the super difficult stuff.

A few in particular from Morrowind come to mind.

Firstly, any of the factions which required you to defeat the leader in an Arena fight to advance to the final position, such as the Mages Guild and Imperial Legion, could be easily solved by Levitating (or even jumping) into the spectator area. Then you could just pelt them with arrows or throw fireballs at them until they die. Yay!

Secondly, the ability to push the Big Bad into the lava at the end, causing him to get stuck eight thousand feet below you, allowing you to...well, finish the main quest without a certain false-God bothering you.

On the SNES version there was an even cheesier exploit - if you cast vanish on a boss, you could follow up by casting doom and they'd instantly die. It didn't work 100% of the time as any boss that was undead would just regenerate. So...yeah. You could literally kill about 95% of all bosses in the game by casting 2 spells. Atma weapon was one of them, most of the dragons in the world of ruin, and even the magimaster (still had to know life 3) on top of the fanatic's tower were all instantly killable with this exploit. I understand that they fixed the issue on all of the re-releases, though.

In KotOR I used a simple self healing build to beat Malak with no med kits as a Jedi. I was like "Wait, this was supposed to be hard.."

There are times the game gives you unkillable allies to help you face your boss, and you just run around avoiding the boss while your allies do all the work.

Like the final boss for Halo 2. You can help Johnson beat that invincible hammer-wielding fucker by waiting for the boss's shields to go down and getting some shots in --

-- OR you could run across the various levels of the battle, let Johnson take down the shield and get a few headshots in, repeat until he dies.

I actually discovered a fun little trick while playing Dragon Age.

In the part where you have to climb the mountain to get those magic ashes, there's a bell that summons a dragon. As far as I'm aware, this is the first time you're able to fight a true dragon in the entire game.

My team was VASTLY unprepared for this fight, as I'm assuming it's supposed to be optional. Anyways, I was a mage, and in less than a few seconds, my entire team was crumpled at the dragon's feet. Thought for sure I was dead, but then I realized something: The dragon can only attack at long range, and can't move. And there was a very convienient ledge nearby, so I ducked behind it, which meant the dragon's fire couldn't hurt me, and basically chipped away at it's health for about 15 minutes with spells.

Cheap? Yes. But that fight gave me a SHIT ton of experience, and the loot was sweet.
