Right so im trying to beat my WoW addiction (world of warcraft) and i need a game of somekind to keep me interested enough to stop me from crawling back to that attention whore that is WoW.
The problem with this though is that in order not to lose total control of my life i need a game that offers something but that wont totally consume my mind.
I'm on a tight budget (one of the reasons why i played WoW) so i need a game that will last for a while and offer me some replayability.
Any suggestions people?

It's not WoW, it's you.

From my p.o.v, what you're asking me is "Help me find a new game I can be addicted to."

You just lack self-control, finding a new addiction doesn't help against that.

Perhaps another game isn't the way to go? Finger painting, gym membership, black tar heroin, Warhammer, waving your penis at small children, learning a new language. Just some examples.

If you got a PS3, I recommend Demon's Soul. Cuz it has a lot of things WoW doesn't (like a difficulty) but good quality.

Fallout 3's fairly cheap now. It'll give a wanderlust type of player something to do for a bit.

Civ 5 is coming out if you can drop the coin for a new new title. It's a time consumer, but can be played in bursts without feeling like you're losing value.

Star Craft II, it's Blizzard quality without the monthly fee. Good multiplayer to keep you buy and requires some thinking.

Maybe some of the fighting games out there? Super Street Fighter IV kept me from thinking about full on MMORPGs for a few good weeks.

Free(ish) games like Lord of the Rings Online, you can put some time in to it - but you won't be driven too I promise. Decent enough game.

There's lots.

I beat my WoW addiction pretty easily, a few hundred hours and I felt 'done'. Thought I'd miss the PVP more, but the multiplayer in a lot of games now really made me question all the months paid in that game.

IF you know you're addicted then there's nothing else we can do to help you. The only one who can stop you playing WoW, is you.

If you're selfaware, all it takes is a bit of willpower and determination.

Should I recommend something, I'd say you should cancel your subscription and delete the game. That way, if you feel like playing it again, you'll have to install and patch it first, which might give you enough time to make you realise that you're longing for a 'fix'.

That might keep you from trying to play it again.

Of course this means deleting all clients from your PC aswell.

Yes we all wave our penis' at small children.

seriously though, its not as much as an addiction as a "i got notthing to do guess i'll go play WoW" and be bored to death on that.
My subscription to it runs out soon i just need something to keep me entertained enough till holidays are over and i can pick my life up again.

Why do you want to stop?

What exactly are you missing from WoW that you feel you need to bring back into your life?

Personally, Dead raising 2 has been a blast. Ive sunk my past 2 days into it.

Its not a long term addiction, but it will help you break one.

Perhaps a way to fix this is thinking ahead of time or thinking of the benefits like for example what do you achieve and get out of it in the end, most people play WoW like myself who has played it for over 13000 hours (www.xfire.com/profile/stoogiemeister) mainly to be recognized for power/fame/popularity by doing something that someone else cant.

How about looking at it as a real life perspective, if u did play wow for 20000 hours and have like 10500 achievement points top 10 arena battlegroup team and top raiding guild on the server and the only reason you played was to achieve that meaning that while doing so it bores you as its not a challenge because u repeat the same instruction set layed out to beat scripted boss fights and/or relying on other people to perform at the same level. which is better to just get skill from being urself and not relying on others.

It's not gonna matter because. if u wanted to be better than someone in real life ( if someone was to insult you for example ). doing something like that which will die out due to a Patch that repeats the same things with more scripts like a retarded instuction set for guitar hero, people will forget you and also no one would care in real life that u spend 10000 hours to become a pro at a game thats based on how long you play it for. instead of relying on numbers rely on skill for example. like a person who plays say BFBC2 5 hours a week and is extremely skilled, they will be more popular than u spending 15-18 hours a day in the same game, because time doesnt give u skill. sure u can polish it up a bit. but in the end it doesnt count.

WoW or just MMORPGs alltogether represent power by how much time u waste. which is meaningless in real life.

What you should do is play games that are Fun to keep you entertained, and if u have some spare time get some achievements or trophies for that game like on consoles but only for games u really like(dont be a achievement whore because it is totally pointless especially as a comeback to a insult in real life).

Also have a skill based game that u can kill time on to pursue ur lust of power or fame like a shooter for example, also dont play it too much cause FPS games are very repeatative(more than rpg's but games in general only have a certain amount of playability before repeatition) but if u want to kill time sure go ahead.

if u keep on thinking that u need to play wow, just repeat these steps:

think to yourself
1. What will i get out of it in the end (which is nothing in mmorpgs apart from wasted time)
2. i will only play things that benefit my real life skills/knowledge or games that i enjoy
3. Real life skills and knowledge is the main source of power(good way to comeback at sadists and what not in real life), and for any MMORPG/RPG anyone can become as good as anyone else by spending that same amount of time, however why would you waste so much time for something so small.

if you want to get recognized, then proove yourself in real life. however remember theres billions of humans and being recognized to a certain degree is quite impossible so for basic psychology or i might say common sense. aim for enjoyment in life while caring and trying your best to learn for things u like.

Most people play WoW to kill time or the pain from real life, they use it as a distraction in belief that they will solve there problem(which they can) but they only create a new one.

sorry about my bad explanation but thats how i bet my addiction.

um what else? Moderation?

All that will happen is you will get addicted to the other game for a time.
I would be much more beneficial for you to try and simply limit your time on WoW. Get into a routine and put a bit of time aside to play games. For the rest of the day try to have some other plans that you stick to. If you happened to have some extra free time during the day add it onto your game time. Just make sure your aren?t playing when you should be doing other things.

I'm still trying to give it hell the first time through. I'm finally to the point to where I can make it to the boss fights with my Wanderer without losing too much health, but then it's a crap shoot if I'll put up a decent fight then or not.

Again, I recommend it cuz it'll make you a different kind of gamer. Other games I've been playing suddenly feel like Shoots & Ladders in comparison. I love how you can't really blame the controls or the camera for deaths in the game either, they're pretty much flawless.

If you like it why quit? I mean, quitting just for the sake of it i pointless. Play with moderation and you'll be fine.

The game you are looking for is Team Fortress 2!

Also it is very cheap, and matches only last like 1-15 mins so..

Why would you want another game? It's the same damn thing if you play more games or WoW in the same amount of time. Because I'm presuming that if you'll like those other games you'll get addicted as well. So if you like WoW stick with that and try to play less. Or go outside and do stuff.
