It's not WoW, it's you.

You just lack self-control ...

Tada, you're not playing WoW anymore! It was really simple, wasn't it? Surely you didn't believe it to be an actual addiction?
People like you are an insult to those with real addictions.

IF you know you're addicted then there's nothing else we can do to help you. The only one who can stop you playing WoW, is you.

If you're selfaware, all it takes is a bit of willpower and determination.
presupposing that internet addiction isn't (or isn't becoming) an identifiable etiology (which is certainly up for debate), it's interesting to me how quickly people dismiss someone's inability to simply walk away from WoW (in this case) as a simple personality flaw.

no you weren't. addictions don't go away. you have and combat them for life.

Perhaps another game isn't the way to go? Finger painting, gym membership, black tar heroin, Warhammer, waving your penis at small children, learning a new language. Just some examples.
Yes we all wave our penis' at small children.

seriously though, its not as much as an addiction as a "i got notthing to do guess i'll go play WoW" and be bored to death on that.
My subscription to it runs out soon i just need something to keep me entertained enough till holidays are over and i can pick my life up again.
As others said, join a gym.

Srsly, think of it as levelling up IRL.

Every bicep curl (Terribly inaccurate name) or chest press is like slapping a murloc with an axe.

If you get addcited to things easliy working out is a good thing to be addicted to.

Push yourself, you may be surprised how rewarding it is.

Alternatively, join a team sport, anyone with a soul will drag themselves to training and games even if they hate them so that they don't let the team down. I don't know if am sports are in season locally for you though, also you might not be a people person.

Right so im trying to beat my WoW addiction (world of warcraft) and i need a game of somekind to keep me interested enough to stop me from crawling back to that attention whore that is WoW.
The problem with this though is that in order not to lose total control of my life i need a game that offers something but that wont totally consume my mind.
I'm on a tight budget (one of the reasons why i played WoW) so i need a game that will last for a while and offer me some replayability.
Any suggestions people?
If it's that bad, then no way in hell should you be going anywhere near games. Just look at yourself. You happy like that? no? then simply put away the game. Remember, it's just a game. All you have to do to give up is simply not play it. Having trouble finding something else to hold your attention? well, think about how you want to be. you in shape? going out with anyone? meeting new people? seriously man, there's a whole world out there. WoW can be enjoyable I'm sure, but seriously: fuck it. It's a game. it's just a goddamn game.

I used to think I was a game-addict. I also used to think I was a spaz, that I had no social skills, that people just wern't my thing and that was just me, I wanted to be left alone to curl up with my games in my comfortable room.

Then I realized I just had to say "to hell with it" and take that first step towards what I want. After that, more steps get easier and easier. You just have to want it, you just have to be willing to be whoever you want to be.

Sorry if that sounded preachy or patronizing. Hope it all works out.

OT, but how is bicep curl a "terribly inaccurate name"?

Because it could describe a number of movements, you have more than one bicep in your body. (edit: More than two. You don't just have Biceps in your arms.)

The one in your arm is Edit: "ones in your arm are" called your Biceps Brachii and it's not the only muscle worked in the action people associate with the phrase.

The major reason for doing a Bicep Curl rather than other upper arm exercises is to work the Brachialis as well as the Biceps Brachii.

Why do you want to stop?

What exactly are you missing from WoW that you feel you need to bring back into your life?
Sex... I'd definitely miss the sex.

LOL
J/K.

I couldn't leave that unchecked.
It's not a joke!
I dated a guy who played a lot of WoW - it marked the end of our relationship when I lounged around in lace lingerie and got not response, aside from a brief glance and an "I'll be there in a minute".... an hour later he was still playing.

Do you have offline friends? One thing I've tried was forcing myself to say "Yes" whenever a different activity was suggested by a friend. Just make sure to avoid activities you wouldn't do even if the internet was down (In my case, clubbing or dive bars), otherwise you'll be quick to give up on the possibility of a new source of entertainment.
If friends aren't available, there's classes and groups you can join. You pretty much have to make yourself busy. As a video game addict, I know how these activities can seem unappealing until I try them (even if I've tried and enjoyed them before). As a result, you should arrange these things days in advance before you start to experience hangups.

Whatttt!

Damn.

Was he a eunuch?

There is a serious problem with someone if they choose a game over sex. I mean they should be rounded up and experimented on.

The game would to be simultaneously giving head and baking a cake for it to warrant passing up sex. XD

How to quit playing WoW:

Step 1: Let your game time run out.
Step 2: Cut up any credit cards/debit cards you have that enable you to buy game time.
Step 3: Do not buy more game time.
Step 4: Pick up a different hobby, not a game a different hobby. Learn to play guitar or buy models you have to put together and paint yourself with the money you were going to spend on WoW.
Tools you will need and things to do to help with this:
A support group you can call on when you feel the urge to play.
Stay away from sites like Wowhead, Wowwiki and the Armory and main pages.
Don't read articles pertaining to WoW.
The key to beating an addiction is to change people places and things that you associate with said addiction, not merely replacing it with another.

I'm glad you brought that up. One big issue I have dealt with is knowing what exactly I want. Indeed, I want to be in shape, so I work out, but when I'm not at the gym or taking Taekwondo classes, or socializing, I'm playing games, because when I have time on my hands and ask what I want to do, the first thing that comes to my mind is "games". It is hard to decide what you want when you don't trust your own judgment.

"Good bye real life, hello fake.
I raid every moment time Im awake.
It feels so right, it must be wrong,
farmin' for purples all night long."

On topic:
I play WoW for many years but Im not addicted (Well I am, but in the way that I have to return to the game from time to time to check whats new). For me the game isnt THAT great and I dont have any guild that counts on me. If you wanna stop for good then just cancel you account. And if you wanna game you should look for something with good story and atmosphere, you probably miss those after playing WoW so much.

Go cold turkey; delete it from your computer, pawn your WoW gear and give a parent/partner your money.

Once you are 'clean', use the money to look at other games. I recommend Rome; Total War.

Fancy FPSs? Battlefield Bad Company 2's working for me right now. You can play it for a long time if you want, but eventually you'll feel like taking a break after a few hours. Really enjoyable game too, gotta say, bringing a building down on a sniper nest is a new kind of awesome :D

*blinks and turns head sideways* WoW... story... atmosphere? Does not compute :p

WoW is mostly addictive because of a sense of loyalty to a guild and because it's a habit incorporated into the daily life. There's also that feeling of always being something else you can do while you're on. Or well there was, WotLK took care of that ^^

If you're short on funds, VVVVVV is going quite cheaply on Steam and it's great fun. Worms Reloaded is also a good call.
