OK, OK, I KNOW that something weird is going on here. Does anyone have some kind of post on the money they made off the past dozen sonic games? I mean, everyone knows these games are terrible, but if they're making them still, they must be making money SOMEWHERE. They have to be, right? They're not just rolling off the dough from 15 years ago...

A new character? That would require effort.

Yes, they've got a perfectly good 3D model of sonic, why let it go to waste? I mean, it should last another 10 years, why not just put him in any game? Outer space gritty horror? Put him there. Underground demon infested caverns? Sonic's there. Universe-sized life simulation? All your lifeforms look like sonic. He's in 3D and they're going to milk it for all it's worth!

At least Mario doesn't delude himself into thinking he's something other than a platform-hopping turtle squishing mushroom eating fat guy with weird fashion sense.

EDIT: Aggggh, I used to love every Sonic game so much, and once they started turning out the tripe I lost all respect for these guys. It infuriates me more than every sequel of every bad game and every poor licensed material from the latest kids animated movie because once, for a fleeting moment in his lifespan, Sonic provided some entertainment. *Sigh*

Yeah, I got a little worked up there about this, rationally what you said makes sense. To me, though, the games at which he is the forefront (and not just the name on the box) are always what Mario is to me, and these side products just happen to contain the cast of characters, whereas Sonic is always the lead in a tragedy that is played out over and over. Plus, some of those other Mario games are actually fun.

However, I'd still like to see some news on the numbers they take in from these games.

Remember, someone has to be buying these games or they wouldn't keep making them. So put on a blue shirt, go down to your local Best Buy, hide the Sonic games behind other, better games, and any customers who ask "do you have the new Sonic game?" tell them "it's a steaming pile of crap. I mean, there hasn't been a good Sonic game since the Sega Genesis was still fresh. Here's *insert your favorite Wii game*. Buy this. You'll be glad you did."

It's old news that the Black Knight is coming out. Chances are it'll be like Sonic and the Secret rings, decent after you get every power up....in other words not worth it.

Personally I liked Sonic Unleashed for 360, I just play the day levels, it's a fun game that looks great. But truthfully if I want to play a great Sonic game I have my genesis still hooked up.

I'm seeing actual potential for good game in here. Well, at least the open world travel seems like it could be fast for a change.

Of course, I have not played any of the new Sonic games, so I have true grasp just how badly they can ruin a game.
