What happens if someone hacks your phone and make you an organ donor against your will? No sir, I don't like it. There was nothing wrong with the current system in the U.S. with volunteering for being an organ donor. I can see a lot of abuse happening with this system. Honestly, you open yourself to a lot of abuses when you do anything online.
"Oh shit! Someone hacked my phone and changed my organ donation status rather than access my bank account or steal my identity or download compromising images or documents to blackmail me with. Now something worthwhile and potentially life-saving might happen to my organs after I die when I will have literally no awareness of it... unless I notice the change and then can very easily change it back to my pointlessly selfish prior decision! NOOOO!"

This is something that no human being will ever have a cause to say... unless they're reading this comment out loud for some reason I guess.
Yeah this made me laugh. If someone hacks my phone, them changing my donor status is the LAST thing on my mind.

I think it should be easy to become a donor. It literally doesn't impact you AT ALL, even your family won't notice anything different in your casket.
You can laugh if you want. Can you tell me that this scenario will never or can't ever happen? People do a lot of messed up things to each other. Especially, through a computer.

It's not that difficult to predict that someone with computer skills who needs an organ transplant could find an appropriate match, hack their phone to make sure they are a donor, and then kill that person in a way that would not damage the organ that was needed. Yes, that sounds paranoid. Then again, can you tell me that couldn't possibly happen?

Can you tell me that someone couldn't do the exact same thing with paper files/electronic files that already exist? Not to mention that they would need to be TOP of the list to be guaranteed your organs, if they're top of the list they'd be likely to get another anyways. The scenario you described is literally possible using our current system.

It is not impossible. That does not make it likely, though.

But if you are so afraid this might happen, I suggest also never leaving your home - after all, who knows if a piano, an anvil or a frozen turkey won't fall from the sky and kill you. That would also be an event that is not impossible.

OP makes terrible "joke". Blames the audience for not laughing.

OT: This seems like a good thing, honestly. This sort of stuff should be a lot easier to do.

I talked to a doctor when I withdrawed my organ donoring about 10 years ago and I talked to doctor when I opted in it more years ago. Since then the law has been apparently changed (I checked it) to that basically all are possible donors if they don't opt out. I opted out because there is no way to choose to what kind of people you possibly to give organs to and I don't want to help an old drunk because my good childhood friend was killed by an drunk driver.
So, you'd refuse to help anyone, in case you end up helping a drunk?

But that's still stupid. Not only because there are also non-profit hospitals which also desperately need these organs, but by doing this, you're trying to make some anti-capitalist statement over the backs of those who desperately need your help.
It's not anti-capitalist. What Libertarians (for instance) object to is that everyone is allowed to profit off your body except you or your family. It's illegal to sell your own kidney but perfectly legal for the hospital to make a tidy sum off the operation to install it in someone else. A fresh corpse with intact organs will fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars for a plethora of medical organizations and professionals but not one cent for the poor family who may not be able to even afford a funeral for their lost loved one. I don't think it's that out of line to say that something's wrong here.

Sounds completely reasonable. I bet OP also doesn't pay taxes because his money might make their way to some corrupt official. That's doing everybody a favour, of course.

I'm always weirded out for organ donation because I don't know what it'll mean for... I mean if there is a "ghost in the machine"...

Like if my organs are still alive, am I still going to feel those organs?

I mean... ultimately I suppose I'm okay with it. I really don't mind being stuck between death/life if it means someone else gets a few extra years I just... am kinda creeped out about it. I mean sure you could say I wouldn't know cause it ain't hooked up to my brain, but we don't even know how the brain fucking works. We sleep a third of our lives and we don't even know why we need to.

I've never heard of live kidney donors still "feeling" their donated kidneys, so you're probably safe.

I mean how would you? They don't have a physical means to.

And that's kinda my point. None of us know how it feels to be dead, which is ultimately what it comes down to and what it means to be dead.

again, I'd still do it, any amount of extra pain is worth it to help another person out... I just worry that it'll really really suck because we don't know.

This sounds AWFULLY familiar... Edit: That feel when the OP's picture of the same joke didn't load so you went right for it.

Now I AM going to donate my organs when I die. But I certainly do not need Apple to take credit and get financial benefits for securing parts of my body just because I use their products.

Also, the religious protest has already been presented. People don't like being forced into things.
