Whats the best game you bought by accident, not knowing anything about it beforehand?

Mine would be Ninja Gaiden. After trading in my PS2 for an XBOX I picked up a few games with it. However, having previously owned only a PS2 I knew nothing about any of the XBOX exclusive games, so I bought Ninja Gaiden. I saw it in the secondhand section for pretty cheap and thought it looked like it might be quite fun. Best buy ever!

Half-Life 2.

A long time ago, I was at some random house where my mom was performing karaoke songs, and I saw the owner's two boys playing Team Fortress Classic on their computer. I was drawn to it immediately and loved it. So, I went out and bought a copy of Counter-Strike and played that and TFC for some time. Put it away, forgot about it.

About 4 years later, while walking by EB Games (which is now GameStop, wtf?), I glance inside and something shiny catches my eye. Actually, it wasn't shiny. It was a man with a goatee and glasses. But anyways, I looked at it, then looked at the back of the box, and saw my familiar old Counter Strike man in a balaclava, and bought it for the hell of it.

I hardly even played CS:S before playing and falling in love with HL2. (Plus, when Steam came along, I put my old Counter-Strike disc in, and it gave me the original Half-Life and a bunch of other GoldSource games for free!)

One day in 2003 I was bored silly, mom asked if I wanted a game to cheer me up, went on over to Circuit City and saw a lonely old copy of a game called Elder Scrolls 3:Morrowind. I was instantly fascinated by an elf who looked like Sauron's best bud, the place it took place called Vvardenfell (which just sounded cool), and the promise of a massive world 3D rendered world. I've been an Elder Scrolls junky ever since.

Bioshock.

Last week I was bored and I needed to spend some of my hard-earned money, so my dad took me to Best Buy and I was in the PC games section fooling around and grabbed Bioshock without knowing if it was good or bad.

And now I'm playing it in my new laptop and I'm glad I bought it. It was worth the 30$.

It wasn't a game, but I was searching for some "I Wanna Be The Guy" videos on YouTube to show a friend. I typed in "I Wanna Be" and pressed Enter. The first thing I was linked to was the song "I Wanna Be Like Osama" from "Jihad: The Musical".

As for a game... "Fallout? That sounds like a cool game. And it's three for £10! What else is there? Sacrifice? Alpha Centauri? I'll take 'em."

Turns out "three for £10" is game-code for "Epic Win".

Fable for me. I saw it in a bargain bin looked like fun so I picked it up and well it was a fun few hours and I regret none of it.

Tales of Symphonia. It was something I just picked up on a whim, and yet no other RPG (except maybe Baten Kaitos Origins) comes anywhere near close to it. Easily the best game I've ever played.

I have spent more time on that game than on Melee, and I have 289 trophies in Melee.

Seconding fable, bought it on a whim and loved it while it lasted. Day of the tentacle was probably the biggest one for me though, that was awesome.

Do you live in a different dimension to all the other gamers in the world? Bioshock was one of the most hyped games ever!

Anyway, back on topic. Dark Sector surprised me. I wasn't expecting a lot, I just thought it looked quite cool and Guyver-esque. It turned out to be a very entertaining game.

KKND (Krush Kill N' Destroy)

Back then I had only played RTS games a bit at a friend's house but I wasn't really that interested in the genre (still ain't) but I found this game sitting in the cheap part of a local store and thought "I've been a bit bored lately, might just as well try something new..." and in the end I loved it =) Earth Blood low!

Suikoden

Was looking for some nice RPG after beating FF7 and found this on a secondhand shelf in a gamig store, hadn't heard of it but liked the sound of it and bought it. LOVED it =D But I missed the second game... my friend's got a copy and now they're selling for crazy amounts of money due to low quantity (At least the PAL version) =( Third game wasn't released in EU for the usual moronic reasons... which ever they might be. But I've gotten 4 and 5 and I'm waiting for the 6th, which I hope will be for the Wii since I don't have the other overpriced things =P

Fable was also an amazing accidental find for me.

I had the money for a new PC game, but the game I was looking for wasn't there (I think I was looking for the first guild wars expansion which I never ended up buying) and I thought, hey, Fable, this game looked pretty cool.

To this day Fable:TLC is one of very few games I've played through more than twice.

I bought GalCiv2 because of the box art and the description on the back. Got a lot of play out of it

I'm a crazy person who tends to find media, trailers and screen shots of games that were hyped. You will call me crazy about this but when I found out about Bioshock, before it was released, I never got really interested in it. After I bought Bioshock I decided to find out who were people that were crafting this game and I discovered that it was 2k. So I already recognized that name and they were the people who made System Shock 2, which is a game I obviously love and praise :)

And now I have this game in my lovely PC library and It is in second place before Teh 0r4ng3 B0x!

My first game ever was Ray-Man. I had no idea what I'd gotten myself into.

That game still holds dear memories in my heart.

Outcast.

Found it for $10. Was EXACTLY the kind of game I was looking for. Great plot. Amazing soundtrack. Graphics sure are dated now but I could easily stand to play through it again.

GameStop was having a special. Buy a new copy of BioShock and get a free copy of The Darkness with it. So.. for the hell of it, I fronted up the extra $10 over the cost of a used copy to get the Darkness with it. After finishing BioShock (which was an amazing game) I was pleasantly surprised to find that The Darkness was just as good. The scenes in WWI were some of the most creepy scenarios I've played in a game. I highly recommend it.

Another great surprise was playing "The Movies" by Lionhead.
