Try Avast Free, then download and install Spybot Search and Destroy. That should sort it all out.
Avast + Spybot are the two best means of protection. Can't reccomend them enough.

I Use Avira Premium which is a little too good. (Picks up every little thing, and keeps wiping my internet cache.)

just had another idea, get firefox if you dont have it already, and go through and block all the ads. some of them use a java security breach to install stuff. i'd be suprised if avg didnt catch it but oh well. plus no more ads.
or just use chrome
I already use Firefox and hate Google with a passion so I?ll just stick with that. I think I?ll download Avast and try that out though since most people seem to be recommending that.

I have Norton 360, and it is terrible, pretty much every virus I get I have to manually remove because Norton just can't do it, 90% of the time it can't even detect the bloody things.

Does not using InternetExplorer count?

Malwarebytes' Anti Malware
Superanti-spyware
AVG

They do a good job.

You want to check if you've got spyware?
Run the following:

Super Anti-Spyware
Spybot Search and Destroy

At least twice. If they keep coming up with threats, run them while in Safe Mode, that catches tonnes of crap.

Generally, I use AVG Free for anti-virus and ZoneAlarm Free for Firewall.

However, this did leave me open to quite a few other threats.

I use avast free version and malwarebytes anti-malware. They are both really good programs. I used to use avg but my computer had issues using it. Start up problems mostlly.

This is the best set up and I have used it for years and have never had any problems.

I tried Norton and hated it. Used AVG, that was ok, but I found it slowed my PC down when updating, and there were other problems that I can't remember now. Then I got a new PC that came with a years McAfee and I am very pleased with it (although a reminder it was going to renew would be nicer than doing it automatically and then thanking me for taking my money)

So I've been using AVG (free version) for a while now but recently I've noticed that I'm being occasionally redirected to advert sites which probably means I have adware. I've done a full system scan 5 times so far and found nothing so I?ve decided to get something to replace AVG-free, what would you recommend?
clear your private data (cache, cookies, temp files..so forth), if that doesnt work then use spybot like the others suggested, AVG is not really something (or any anti-virus software) that should be used for something rather minor as there main purpose are to detect above medium-serious threats such as Rootkits, Trojans, worms and viruses

EDIT: on the side note, it's also better to have in combination (with a AV), Threat Fire to prevent any Zero-day attacks
