It sucks to be good.
No no no. The quote is:

It's lonely at the top.
While that IS true, mine has a slightly different meaning I believe.
Basically, I was bitching to my head chef because he always called me in to cook when someone else got sick. I asked him why he always called me, and he told me that statement.

I asked him what the hell that meant, and he said "Whenever you're good at something, people will always come to you, because you're good at it. Why would I ask the guy that sucks?"

This statement has been true ever since I started working. And, yes, it still sucks.

I'm not saying i'm super talented but it gets to the point where other people only have 2 options. They would want to be like you or wish that your talent ceases to exist. In my experience people usually take the second option. I've learnt that boasting also makes people take the second option. I remember acting stupid to get people to like me. I was naive.

I'm going to assume that you work with other chefs. Your boss is glad that he has a talented worker, but what do your peers think? Surely the guy who is never called in to fill in for a sick chef is pissed off about that. Maybe your peers don't want to come to you because your'e good at what you do.

Never play cards with any man named "Doc."
Never eat at any place called "Mom's."
And never, never, no matter what else you do in your whole life, never sleep with anyone whose troubles are worse than your own.

Ahh South Park, teacher of so many lessons.
QFT. Best moral lessons on television, which is kinda sad if you think about it.

"Learn from the past but to not dwell upon it. To do so can be fatal."

If only everyone else could learn from that.
