Best Burnout?

I almost never try racing games, but from what I see of burnout its more about ramming the other drivers into things, which is far more fun than simply racing to my mind. In fact all I remember of other racing games is trying to destroy the opposition, even in games where that is really not what you are supposed to do (F-zero for example is not really very good for that)

So I put it to you escapist, name me the very best burnout game or a preferable alternative!

Or failing that name me a good fighting game available on steam, because my steam account has a lack of straight out fighting games which is annoying when I get really hyped up by some fast paced music and im all like "Graaaw I must test my strength against a worthy adversary!" and all I find at hand are slow, methodical single player games such as deus ex and world of goo and suchlike. Anyway thanks in advance for your advice!

Burnout 3 : Takedown is the best by far. Paradise is okay but Takedown's the best.

Oh also it would be best if it was on xbox for various reasons, just to clarify. Good news is most racing games are on xbox anyway so thats good. I do have a ps3 though. Anyway sorry I am rambling do continue!

Imma go away from the norm here and say burnout revenge was the best. You may not have been as terrified of the back ends of cars, but that's a fine tradeoff for the almost continuous sense of blistering speed. Takedown has a lot more crashes in it before you get pro at it.

Take that I to consideration... Do you like speed or fear of crashing? If you like the former go with revenge, if you like the later go with takedown.

I enjoyed Burnout 3: Takedown more than Burnout 4: Revenge, and all of the other people I've heard talk about it prefered 3.

Including Charlie Brooker.

It's pretty close between Burnout 3 and Paradise, but I'm gonna have to go with Paradise. It is one of the few games where I pushed to get 100%, where I didn't do so with Burnout 3.

This, this, a hundred times this.

My Dad's friend said "You'll never stop playing it when you start."
I always figured him to be a bull-shitter. It turns out, he's a prophet of truth.
The only reason I could put the damn game down was because my Dad forced me off it so he could play.

I'd say revenge. I never played 3, (which I hear is the best, check it out as well) and 1 and 2 don't feature the takedowns that you mentioned.

Paradise just ruins everything by not having tracks and instead just giving you a start and finish and telling you to find your own way, which means one wrong turn and you're screwed. The soundtrack also sucks.

Burnout 3 is definitely my favourite. I never played 1 or 2 so I can't comment on them.

Burnout Revenge I enjoyed, but I don't like traffic check. I prefer dodging cars and having that challenge.

Burnout Paradise I absolutely hated. It felt like it was trying to be GTA and failed. As much as I don't usually try to encourage linearity, Burnout needs set tracks.

Burnout Legends on PSP - Damn fun. Had the same gameplay and feel as Burnout 3. I loved every bit of it.

Burnout Dominator on PSP - Again seemed fun. Didn't get into it much though.

I really hope the next Burnout is nothing like Paradise.

Takedown is a hell of a lot of fun, if you don't have an older gen system though, get Revenge for 360. If you only have a PC or PS3, skip the series entirely. Paradise isn't a Burnout game, although some people love it for exactly the reason Burnout fans don't.

BURNOUT THREEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Burnout 3 is probably the only game that I could truly consider "nostalgic." I remember just running southern alpine over and over and over again trying to break my own high score in road rage (I think it was 54 takedowns). I would love to get my hands back on that game. I'm a way better gamer now I bet I could double it.

Burnout 3 definetly. It's got the best gameplay, the best cars, and it's just so much fun doing a power slide in a U-turn. No realistic handling, this is arcade driving through and through.

The first was decent fun, the second borderline excellent, Takedown was absolute awesomeness compressed into a PS2-/Xbox-format disc, Legends (on the PSP at least) was Takedown mixed with Burnout 1&2 on a portable format, Revenge was fun but seemed like it tried to over complicate things, Dominator was... well I don't know since I've never played it, and Paradise was excellent but not as good as Takedown.

In short, Burnout 3: Takedown is my favorite.

TelHybrid, stealer of Words! Now i cannot do anything other than agree with you.

Burnout 2 was really, really great fun, but it lacked that certain something...

Burnout 3: Takedown is the best Burnout and absolutely amazing (except maybe the Crash Mode that was fixiated to much on reaching certain multiplyers).

Burnout Revenge is almost as good as Burnout 3, but the changes to the gameplay did not really improve the game. (But the Crash Mode was "fixed")

And Burnout Paradise...well, as TelHybrid said, Burnout does not work outside of set tracks. It was fun, but not nearly as good as any other Burnout...

I have Burnout Dominator on PSP which I really enjoyed, but I'm looking to get a Burnout game for my PS3... What would people on here recommend? Or should I go for Blur instead? I'd like one that has online gameplay... Also whats the difference between Blur and Burnout?
