Inspired by No Right Answer?s omnibus question: Lonely Island vs. Tenacious D, I was wondering who is the best comedy/parody band (or singer) ever? I?ve always thought that it?s a type of comedy which, when done well, is absolute gold (see: Flight of the Conchords, Bill Bailey, Axis of Awesome, Tim Minchin, even Monty Python) but when done badly is cringe-inducing torture for the earlobes. I?m a Brit, so I?ve mostly been exposed to British (and by the looks of the above list, Antipodean) comedy, so I would love to hear about any American/mainland European acts I should check out. Suggestions please!

These three [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic] different [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Arrogant_Worms] groups [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_of_the_Conchords] of comedic musicians make me smile every time I hear one of their songs. Just my kind of hilarity.

[sub][sub]I'm including Weird Al because he does have a regular band that performs with him.[/sub][/sub]

Is this just bands, or any musical comedy. I'm resorting to this because you've covered pretty much all my favourite bands already leaving me with only Jonathan Coulton and MC Frontalot.

If i have to pick a band, well I'd go with Flight of the Concords as my favourite, with most of the others listed already getting honourable mentions.

OP got most of them, though Bo Burnham is another great one, and the Amateur Transplants are worth a listen :)

Thanks for the Jonathan Coulton recommendation! The chorus to 'IKEA' will now be stuck in my head for days. It can't be a bad thing.

Kind of surprised Spinal Tap haven't been mentioned. They rose out of their mockumentary (well worth seeing), to become a real band.

Having said that, my favourite comedy band is definitely Tenacious D, but Bill Bailey is brilliant too. The best thing about comedy bands is quoting them and singing their songs with like-minded friends.

Austrian Death Machine. A whole two albums of Arnie inspired, incredibly generic metal songs... Awesome.

Weird Al Yankovic comes to mind. Some of his songs are cheesy and mostly stupid humour. But I've found most are very funny and I always seem to remember his version of songs and lyrics rather than the original.

Tis is one of my favourites

Wierd Al - Mediocre at times, has his moments.
Bo Burnham - Every song will rustle your jimmies.
Anal **** - Extremely offensive, so bad they're great.
Ke$ha - Subjectively funny.

Richard Cheese is pretty funny. He does an awesome jazzy version of Down With the Sickness.

Tenacious D is definitely my favorite though.
