Half Life- I really love the mysterious ends to each iteration.

But to be honest, the one game that really had me feeling satisfied at a truly grandiose story with a fitting end has to be Red Dead Redemption.
Or 'both' endings to that game, I guess I should say

in terms of a fight or something like that, that I've played is probably Mercenaries: playground of destruction,
in which you storm an island fortress with a battalion of tanks and destroy nuclear missiles.
that was kinda nice.
although cutscenes would definitely go to portal 2, without a doubt the song is just so hauntingly lovely.

Metal Gear Solid 4.

Anyone who has played the series can't help but love the ending. Very moving, closure for everything and throws in some surprises.

I don't know why people say that: I thought the ending was good.
It wasn't.
Not that I have anything against necessary sacrifices, but when you have 2 companions who can easily not only do 'that' without dying, but even be comfortable while doing it, and they refuse for absolutely no good reason so you arbitrarily have to die.
That's not a heavy hitting ending; that's just a kick in the balls.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. I darn near cried.

And the ending to Yukimura Sanada's ending in Samurai Warrior's is brilliant:

Portal 2 was pretty awesome.
*SPAAAACE!*
I also really enjoyed Halo 3's ending. It was just so epic. Oh and Fable 1. Probably one of the first games I ever completed so you can imagine my excitement when...
...you get the awesome sword everyone's been harping on about!
And Halo 2, it was amazing...
"What the hell are you doing on that ship boy?!!" (Not his exact words btw)
"Sir... finishing this fight."
I love videogames.

I can't really think of which one I thought was the best.
Personally I really like the ending of Pre DLC Fallout 3. I liked the having to sacrifice yourself thing.
I also really liked Mortal Kombat 9's ending.

Portal completely surprised me with the 'Still Alive' ending, that was a really original way to do it as far as I know.

Portal 2 for all reasons listed before on these pages.

Red Dead Redemption I kind of expected the ending I got, but the way they built up such happiness for Marston (Teaching/saving his son, reuniting with his family to that wonderful song that plays as you ride through the forests) before inevitably cutting him down. Ah, brilliant. Also I kidnapped both of that feds family members, took them to the graves at Marston ranch and executed them, while Johnny Cash "Aint no grave" played in the background. Badass.

Halo Reach I would have to give an honourable mention to, seeing your visor crack as you get nearer to death is very cool, especially when you've been fighting tooth and nail for a good 8 minutes.

Halo Reach and Red Dead Redemption come to mind for me. So bleak and yet glorious
The first Halo too. One of the earliest games I played and it blew my little mind xD

Portal 2... all I'm gonna say is 'spaaaace'
As for other games. I think Ico? Cant really remember it now but I do remember the feeling of awe. The first prince of persia. Uhm. Haven't finished many games recently :/

Halo 3. I loved the symmetry of it. Touching, epic, felt like the end of an incredible joy ride that lasted a good five years.

I am one to say loving older games is largely nostalgia. They really are getting better and better, but dang, Halo, Halo 2 and 3 are just terrific by any standard.
