What would you say are they best endings you've seen or read or just experienced?
Seeing as I've just finished a Solty Rei marathon and am somewhat awe-struck with the ending, I'm a gonna say that. Anyone who hasn't seen/heard of it, I highly recommend it.

So, Escapist, I put forward the question to you; what are the best endings in media entertainment?

Just recently I saw The Mist again. That's one hell of an ending.

Fight Club was the first that came to mind.
Basically, the bad guys won; they blew up all those big buildings. I like it when the bad guys win.
Also Inglourious Bastards, for fucking so nicely with history.

I very much enjoyed the ending of the first Bad Company game, before the credits roll (there's a crummy cliché thing after them, but I ignore that bit).

I also enjoyed the ending of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The Usual Suspects still has that awesome WTF! at the end of the movie. Pulp Fiction had that hilarious ending that led to the second act thanks to Tarantino's timeline screwball. Elfen Lied reeeally tugged at the heartstrings in the final episode. I don't really have a favourite video game ending; Mario getting Peach at the end of Super Mario World maybe?

Agreed. I love the novella it's based on but the movie's ending was better.

I quite liked the ending of The Departed, all gets wrapped up nicely and people get what they deserve.....mostly

After I saw that movie I turned to my Dad and said "You think they will make a sequel?"

You mean it's not historically accurate? Damn. Well, that explains why I failed my essay.

Transformers 2.

Why?

Because it ended

On a more serious note though, I always loved the ending to the Shawshank Redemption

Bioshock

Would you kindly make my head explode by revealing an awesome twist?

Seriously, I did NOT see it coming.

Fallout 3... ha just joking.

The last 10 minutes of Sunshine were incredible.

And, of course, Mass Effect 1 and 2.

So the novella ends differently? Maybe I should read it, then...

Heavy Rain, of course. The saddes endingst are the strongest ones, surprisingly. If not, I clapped at the ending to Gta IV. I don't know why but it struck me as being awesome.
