I agree. That's a great ending in a game. Hell, I think that's one of the best endings in a game I've seen.

For a movie, I'll have to say In Bruges. It really pulled everything together. God, I fucking loved that movie.

The Machinist
The whole movie is a complete mindfuck experience and while you can figure out some plot points fairly early, you will most likely not be able to see the end coming. But when it comes around and all the pieces falls into place... Best. Ending. Ever.

Children of Men
I believe Children of Men qualify for a runner up award. The whole movie in itself is awesome. But the ending is just so perfectly executed. Is it a positive ending? A bad ending? You tell me, because everyone sees it diffrently.

For video games, in terms of (intentionally provoked) rage, Fallout 1. Going through hell and back on a nightmare of a quest that saw your inexperienced Vault Dweller go from zero to hero... only for THAT to happen. Listening to "Maybe" by The Inkspots as the credits rolled, I felt sucker punched, but oddly, in a good way.

In terms of sheer awe, Fallout 2 (bit of a trend there, but I digress). It's rare a game makes damn near EVERY choice you made count for the ending, but whoever you sided with, whatever you did, those you killed, those you spared, the myriad of ways you approached the completion of the various quests, all was there on the screen, gloriously narrated for your enjoyment (or suffering, depending). "And the drifters, well, they just drifted away..."

But the most emotionally moving endings for me came from the Bioshock games; specifically, the good-guy-to-the-hilt endings. The narrative for each made those endings matter to me in a weird way that few game endings can accomplish, and I'll damn well admit, Bioshock 1's ending made me tear up. I guess when you spend an entire game talking about and diving head-first into the concepts of extremism in philosophy and what that means to the self, to the family, etc., just the right framing device for your endings can make all the difference.

Mass Effect (1), from Virmire to the Credits.. was the most unbelievably mindblowing thing I have EVER seen.. including ANY film I have seen.
Mass Effect 2 ending was SICKKKKK as well.

Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts 1&2.
I really liked them both and they both made me think.

Final Fantasy IX was pretty awesome all-round.
And I really liked the ending to Blue Dragon since it was such a surprise that the plot took a twist and deepened after all.

More recently though, Bayonetta. The ending just fitted the game perfectly.

A lot of folks didn't, and I know it's not where the story ends, but I liked the end of the show Berserk. So ridiculously dark, but refreshing in an odd way...

Everyone dies horrific deaths, the protagonist is slowly mangled and forced to watch as the woman he loves is raped to death by his best friend.

also, the world ends or something.

Man On Fire, the one with Denzel. Cause I swear I thought the girl was dead!
I didn't like the fact she survived, for me it kind of invalidated a lot of the sadistic crap he had done earlier. Stuffing explosives up a man's arse for revenge = good, but for a rescue it's a little too much.

Another vote for Mass Effect 1 and 2

Have to also say Far Cry 2. Even though most people scratch their heads and say WTF? The meaning of it was very clear and very well done I thought.

That's an easy one! BORDERLANDS has the best and most fulfilling ending ever. After pouring my loving hours into it, I felt totally satisfied by the near perfect ending. It wraps things up nicely and is everything anyone could have asked for.

In all seriousness, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Call of Duty 4. Damn well epic.

For a videogame, FFX takes it for me. I've never been brought closer to tears by a game before or since.

For a movie, Gladiator, athough I watched a very curious film called Versus the other day, some Japanese nonsense but with the best WTF ending I've ever seen.

After defeating the bad guy and rescuing the girl, riding off into the sunset on a motorbike to live happily ever after, you assume the movie is over.

WRONG!

It then cuts to 99 years later where you find out that the good guy was actually as bad as the bad guy, has destroyed the world and now is going along with the bad guys original plan.

Kingdom Hearts 1 had one of the best endings for me. Though I love the series I almost wish that they hadn't made a second one so as to preserve that bittersweet moment.
