Well the Liberty Prime fight was pretty cool, but one of the best "wow...." moments was when I was just walking around in the D.C. ruins an I stumbled across a bank near the Jefferson memorial and I heard a flame thrower go off. I frantically start looking around to see where the attack was coming from and I saw a Brotherhood Initiate taking dead Mirelurks out of the water, putting them in a pile and burning them. It wasn't something that made me say holy shit (like after I fired of the MIRV for the first time). But it was something that made me realize the that Bethesda really put a soul in to the game.
same on my first play through(evil) I tryed to put a better hat in his items so that he wuld wut that on and I culd pick pocket his head rap thing I tryed over and over (had VERRY low sneak) and finaly got it to work well then I went back and tryed but he didnt put it on (I went outside then came right back in)didnt work(now I know I needed to wait a bit)so I killed him put on the radio and he whas still talking so I thought o ok no big deal but now every time I lissen to it instead of hearing the AWSOME 3-dog I hear the tecnishion who hardly trys it sucks!salamarian said:

Watching the slaughter at Tenpenny tower.
The Pleasant Lane or whatever the black and white area was called. That was freaking cool. I was not expecting that at all.
The creepy vault with the purple-flavored visions.
The first time I saw a supermutant behemoth. I was out in the wilderness and found a shopping cart rigged as a trap. I though some raiders or a few super mutants would come busting out from around the corner or something when I activated it. But when I hit it, nothing happened. I was like "WTF?" Then I looked around and saw a humongous Goliath coming at me. I said "Woah!" out loud IRL.

I can top that lol i gave Fawks the Merv fatman (and yes i'am a complete idiot but it sounded like a good idea at the time as you do...) and i was running away from two albino rad scorps when he fired it, (i have no idea where he found 8 freaking mini nukes! I didnt give him any! lol) killing both of them, then one of the mini nukes went WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off target hitting a motor bike that i was right next to sending my limbless corpse flying in the sky team rocket style lol.Dooblet said:

Either Tranquility Lane or The Republic of Dave. Those were the only places where it actually felt like a Fallout game.
I loved finding the experimental MIRV at the military base.
I went straight to megaton and made it a ghost town. The only living people were this random woman and that little girl that you can't kill.
Was fun. But i had to reload. I then went and did the same thing to tenpenny tower, as I had no reason to keep it alive-I had chosen the path of the Megaton.
Also, when i first, and very accidently, found the alien blaster. I was very creeped out by the whole random signal thing. I usually just keep galaxy on, but I found that signal and was like "woh" and it was scary.
And finally, i loved the vaults. With all the crazy survivors. And ghosts. Fun Fun.

I can match that in scariness-I was over a friend's playing fallout with him, and we both nearly shit ourselves when a mirelurk hunter came out of the water.kawligia said:

Definately the scariest moment for me on fallout 3
I was seeing how many mini-nukes to the face it would take to kill Fawkes (3, with my character)
However, on one of my attempts, my 99% hit rate failed, and the nuke slightly scratched Fawkes' head, and flew down a cliff.
I laughed so much I didn't notice Fawkes killing me.
That, or the mugging random event. Good times. The man the starting punching a giant radscorpion.
