The shotgun has always been the tradmark zombie killing weapon because it has just the right range and you can be garunteed a good enough kill with it even if you blow its brains out, shoot it's legs off or shred it's insides. No other weapon works quite as well because with melee weapons you need to be in close range and with rifles you'll shoot it in the head but it'll still keep crawling towards you.

So remember next time when it's you against the zombie horde the shotgun is there! *psychoface and thumbs up*

I'm a man of excess and if one was to offer me any weapon to fight hordes of Zombies I'd either reach for an Auto Assault-12 (AA-12) which is just a DEVASTATOR of a shotgun... or I'd just pick a Steyr AUG (Fav gun fom TWO Man Army). But realistically if Z-Day happened today I gotta go with old faithful, the aluminum baseball bat. I like hearing the "ting" sound when I make a homerun.

another person...they can be used defensively, offensively, and as decoys when you want to run away. and the best thing is you don;t have to look far for another one.

Either a shotgun or a chainsaw. Or a mad combination of both. Bruce Campbell the tits off them.

The pump action shotgun. The classic work horse of any anti-zombie arsenal.

Failing that, I'd have to go with the .357 revolver. Powerful, mobile, few moving parts to jam at critical moments.

Shotgun easily. If a zombie apocalypse occured and I had my pick of armament, I would choose a shotgun to hold, with two pistols in a dual holster, and a sniper rifle in a seperate carrying thing on my back. Long, mid and short range weaponry, and I'd have twin swords also attached to my belt. A veritable killing machine. Plus, given I've known how to use a gun, and fired them myself, ever since I was 14 years old (surprising since I live in the UK), I know how to fire and exactly where to aim to kill a man (or zombie). Not that a shotgun really needs much aiming, just point and shoot. No way will I die in a zombie apocalypse...
Yeah, a veritable killing machine that has trouble running, jumping or walking through most doors.

In a zombie apocalypse I will be staying as far away from zombies as possible and avoid any unnecessary conflicts. If I do have to engage them it will be from a long distance using a silenced weapon, for example the L96A1 with silencer (7.62x51mm round gives good stopping power, much better than that of a .22 and it has a range of 800m). If I find myself engaging zombies closer then I will use an L85 A2 AFV, mainly because it is an accurate weapon but also it uses the ammo that is most common in my country (England) and I have used it before. For covert attacks a high powered crossbow would be ideal as it is almost silent and the ammo can be reused. If I am drawn into close quarters fighting any .357 calibre pistol would be excellent. I intend no to get close enough to use a close combat weapon and so would never carry one with me with exception of a hunting knife but if I were to use a close combat weapon it would be a katana. Added note: If possible I'd use a sniper rifle or other weapon that used the same round as my main weapon as it allows me to carry more and use it with all weapons.

Rocket Propelled Grenade.
This is probably the 4th or 5th time I've posted this in a guns-thread.

Well, autoshotgun comes to mind (this shit exists; google it.)...

As for backup, I'd say a small shovel of sorts. Bladed weapons can get stuck in the gory mess, and you probably don't want that.

That silly gun on Painkiller, the one with the shurikens (sp) and looks like a food blender blade, killed plenty of skeletons on that game with it so I'm sure it'll work with zombies :D

My favorite arsenal would be the shotgun (for stopping power), a molotov cocktail (for long range) and the baseball bat (for getting a homerun by every zombie that loses his head on impact XD).

Too many people hail the shotgun as the ultimate zombie killing weapon, often claiming that it's easier to get a hit because more pellets land on target, and guaranteed organ shreddage from all the shots yada yada. It's not that hard to simply practice with a weapon until missing an undefending target running straight at you from several meters is near impossible. That aside, the spread of shot isn't as wide as a lot of people would like to believe, the benefit of a reduced need to aim is negligeable and if you tamper with the shotgun to widen the dispersal you lose stopping power as less shot lands on target. Anyone hip firing a shotgun is begging to waste shells anyway, aiming is just smart

The shotgun also has a much shorter range than an assault rifle. They make assault rifles in calibers that can drop a human target from the inertial transference alone (apparently?). A headshot typically kills what most people view as a zombie and even if you don't go for a headshot, a single 45 caliber tumbling round is going shred the internal fleshy bits and pieces of a target to ribbons. It'll do just about as much muscle tissue and bone damage as a shotgun if not more. Then there's the occasional military, swat, or cop zombie wearing protective gear when he died. Pistols and Shotguns are going to SUCK against them.

Semi-automatic shotguns can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, full-auto weapons fire 15-20 rounds a second (though if you're surrounded by zombies and doing the ol' spray and pray you'll likely die). Fully reloading a shotgun is also much slower than reloading a magazine. I'd much rather handle zombies at range. The logical choice then is a large caliber assault rifle with an extended magazine of some kind.

That said, A12! With Frag shells! :D

Agreed, plus you wouldn't be able to carry as many rounds as a rifle :/
