Female Hawk from Dragon Age 2... because no matter how many times I play it the game seems to be written for her not the male version of the character.
Really? Interesting, I can't compare the male and female Hawke because I couldn't get myself to play a male Hawke yet (it's the voiceover). I should look into this sometime.

OT: I have to put down my vote for Kreia. I'm currently replaying KotOR 2 (finally got my hands on one of those restored content packs) and I can't help but be amazed by the complexity of her character. And when you think about it, a lot of what she talks about is applicable IRL as well. She has to be one of the best written characters ever to appear in a videogame.

Ain't that right Ammy?

Stop putting words in Ammys mouth everyone knows she dosent speak so that has to be Issun saying that and he cant be trusted.

Ohhh good choice although my favourite character in the game was

`sadistic` Jane Turner she was awesome even though she plays zero part in the story she always ended up on my squad even if I didnt need her.

I think I have said my favourite many times before in these threads so I will go with another this time

I really like Aigis from Persona 3, more so than any of the other female characters. That said, I'm only about 30 hours into the game, (just beaten the Chariot & Justice) so I'm not sure about her character deveopment. But the first impressions are good. I have a feeling (from the opening of FES) that she's gonna become a whole lot more important later on in the story.

Please, I know the difference between Ammy and Issun.

Ammy definitely said that.

Let me just fish out my Iji review because I can't be bothered typing out again why Iji Kataiser is my favourite female protagonist ever:

Porecomesis Reviews: Iji said:
I have to say, Iji is my most favourite protagonist ever and that's not something I say lightly. She actually acts like a real human being; while Dan has had six months to get over the death of two members of his immediately family and the fact that hostile aliens are around every corner, Iji has this news pushed onto her as soon as she wakes up. As would usually be the case in real life, Iji has a break down and spends a few moments crying to herself before Dan convinces her that she's the only one who can stop the situation from getting worse, causing her to suck it up, pick up her new nanogun (which can have over 16 different firing modes) and try to talk the Tasen into leaving. What makes Iji a bit different is that she's not exactly sane but she's still at least functioning. As the game goes on, Iji gets better and much more confident. She's not a strong character by default; she starts out weak and becomes a really strong character by the end of her story. She is the embodiment of how character development should work.

Amaterasu, because she has the best body language of any character in a video game. No ammount of motion capture is a match for being fuzzy-wuzzy adorable.

My choice is an obvious one for me.

Although the game itself wasn't the best in the series (I personally rank it lower than SH:4 but it's still better than any of the ones without numbers) Heather is a great character and generally acts like a human being.

Tsukuyomi from Chrono Cross.
I just like the design and I like her name, and the story line involving her was good.

Bayonetta. Just like her a whole lot for some reason. Both sexualized and yet strong.

I'm a fan of Totori from the Atelier Totori
<spoiler=Totori>http://gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Totori-Annouced-Fall.jpg She may seem generic at first but as you play her true character takes shape and grows throughout the game.
Overall she's a lovable lead who breaks though basic character types and takes on new dimensions with each enconter.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...this lady:

Her story really is worth following, and the fact that she's hands down the best non-player healer in the games helps too. Now if only she stopped resisting heals when she needs them...ahhh the joys of 2nd edition.

I think OP should change title from "best" to "favorite" since everyone is basically saying who their favorite female character is instead of debating who is the best .

My favorite is , Noa from Legend of legaia . Raised by a wolf , alone in a dark cave, she doesn't relly know how to act "properly" with other people . But she is not primitive nor rude , mostly passionate , she let's her emotions guide her. Strong but femenin , cute but tough , funny but not obnoxious , she is by far my favorite character . Look at my avatar , thats her angry face ... So cute .

Ah yes, Jane too. Even if "Get ready to die Imps!" got a little old every other time you select her... she was pretty set on killing Imperials... the ever creative "Die! Die! Die!" and "Die Imps!" really got across how much she hated them.

At the moment I'm rather fond of Elika from Prince of Persia.
She is strong, determined and all other kinds of good things. And if it wasn't for her, I'd be dead!
Like, very, very dead.

No, actually I am saying that Viconia is the best female character in gaming so far. She doesn't rank first on my "favorite" list. Annah from Torment would be the one reigning there, but Viconia is still better as far as characterization goes. If you ask me that is.

Ah happy times from flower shop owner to someone who finds they actually enjoy murdering imperials and takes the front lines by choice. I also liked it when she killed and enemy and would shout "next" or when she dies she says `"Damn you... Imps... I'll haunt the filthy lot of ya..." and of course theres "Fresh Meat Found." when she spots an enemy. Oh yeah and "You think bullets'll stop me!?" (unfortunately they do unless you are Alicia one (wo)man army Melchiott)

I was just thinking about that game cause of the 'Perdy colours [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.382731-Ooh-Perdy-colours-Nonsensical-but-awesome-use-of-colours-in-games]' thread. I wonder if they'll ever make a sequel.

An excess of favoritism was expected. Some rational choices:

Rydia, Final Fantasy IV
Lucca, Chrono Trigger
Jack, Mass Effect 2

I'm going to have to go with the female Commander Shepard. I thought she was just so much better than the male version. I don't think Bioware could've picked a better voice-actor. Especially if you were playing a battle-hardened paragon soldier standing up for what is right.

Jennifer Hale ftw!
