Fantasy? Right now I'd say Discworld, because it has had me in stitches since I started reading. It's like Douglas Adams for fantasy.

For Science Fiction, its a tossup between 40K for brutality, and Star Wars for sheer volume.

The Halo Universe hands down. The aesthetics of every culture and the tech (old and new) is all fascinating to me.

I would say Star Wars. Yes there are way too many info but any info that you do read upon will be interesting enough.

Hmm, in games, the X universe has a good foundation. I like the more "raw", sandboxy environments.

I guess Star Wars would work too but it's kind of "meh" for adventure. Either you're working for "The Man" in one way or another, or you're some cheezball flying a junkheap one hop ahead of the debt collectors.

Nostalgia shout-out, Wing Commander's universe was a great war universe.

Game wise? Elder Scrolls / Mass Effect. Two of the most detailed and engrossing worlds I've come across.

Otherwise, Probably Discworld (there are what, 30 books now?).

Is there a person on The Escapist who didn't want to be able to use The Force at some point in their life?

Yeah, I thought so. There's my answer.

Mass Effect comes second, if you remove the Reaper threat. Asari FTW!

I'm rather fond of Gensokyo myself. Wouldn't want to live there though. That place is dangerous.

Fallout universe. After revisiting New Vegas now with a few DLC installed, the rich history and backstory surrounding even the littlest things is mighty intriguing. The whole world is just so interesting.

Pokemon

Seriously, Pokemon would be amazing to live in. It'd only be frigtening to run into something crazy strong in the wild.
I was thinking about this t'other day and realised you're 10 when you're sent out into a world full of monsters that can kill you in all sorts of nasty ways...it's kinda...weird...

Pokemon would be beast if there were no monsters going on rampages and instead of killing you and eating you they'd just transport you to the nearest city and take some money for expenses or something...

Elder Scrolls world would be pretty cool but again demonic beings, crazy weirdos and a general lack of technology...

I guess I'd go future, I like medicine and hygiene too much to swap them out for sharp sticks, much as I like 'em...
So...hrm...Mass Effect I guess...I mean yeah it has it's problems but I think survivability is a mite higher than in most others and all that tech looks pretty sweet...

Either Dr. Who, for having the Doctor in it, or Mass Effect, for having hot blue alien women in it.

And spaceships and whatnot. For both of them.

Because you used the word "Universe," the first thing that came to my mind was Lord of the Rings. Its not even close to my favorite fantasy series, books or movies, but the whole world is incredibly detailed and miraculous. J. R. R. Tolkien truly created a universe with those books.

I agree with this guy.
It always surprises me that in Pokemon games the protagonist starts off in the piss-poor for pokemon area of their region. Imagine being born in say... Fuchsia City and going out with your starter pokemon (sent to you via PC by Prof. Oak) trying to catch your first pokemon?

"Wild Gloom appeared (lv. 29)
Go! Squirtle! (lv. 5)"

...Yeah.
Even without the type disadvantage you'd be royally fucked.

EDIT: That or X-Men, if I was a mutant.
EDIT 2: Oh, thought of another one. Alagaësia from the Christopher Paolini books "Eragon" "Eldest" "Brisingr" and "Inheritance".
Preferably pre-Galbatorix era
