That makes perfect sense if 'good' and 'fun' were based on checklists.

Given that they aren't, this is simply a rather cheeky attempt to twist the system.

One that, unfortunately, fails flat in about half a second.
Someone is finally speaking sense.
Why isn't it fun? you've got so many different variations and themes you could add to Pong and with two people it's the same as table hockey really, a fun pastime.

Your original statement had a list of things that Pong had and that you thought made a game fun which was followed by a conclusion that Pong was the best game ever because that meet the requirements from the list.

I'd vote for Tetris because it is:
1. the most copied and re-issued game ever. There isn't a system out there you can't get Tetris for in one way or shape, obviously beating out everything else in popularity.

2. Tetris is a 'pure' video game in that it doesn't emulate another game, it is a game made and designed from the ground up as a video game, it can not work in a physical form in any way or shape. Tetris is Tetris. Pong is uber-simplified tennis.

3. It meets all the criteria of the OP (Someone said it doesn't, uhm, yes it does).

Every game has fanboys. They're just not of the 12 yr old shout in your ear type.

Another contender is Snake btw.

Aside:
I don't much like grapes and love wine.

Also:
Keen 4 wooo!

I would much rather have the wine than the grape. Just because more people agree that the grape it good, does not make it better than wine. In fact, any wine, even a mediocre one, is better than a grape. So when we talk about a great great wine (Deus Ex) just because 100% don't agree does not make the grape better.

so you are one of the not so many fanboys for pong?
lol I'm not a fanboy I'm just suggesting a cult classic game could be the greatest even if it's simple.

There are other games I like more than Pong, but it's definitely a contender for greatest.

I thought everyone like Pong, didn't everyone wile away hours on the school computers playing pong type flash games when they were supposed to be working?

Your lack of faith in Pong is disturbing.
Sorry, when I was in school Flash did not exist. The computers we had were IBM OS/2 running DOS 5.0 which is actually where I started to learn programming using QBASIC and I got a perfect grade in the class after I reprogrammed Gorillas so that instead of Gorillas lobbing bananas at each other it was large breasted naked women lobbing floppy penises at each other. But I digress.

Pong fails as the best game because 1. It gets boring within 5 minutes. It was boring back in the day and it is boring today and 2. There is no sense of accomplishment besides beating your twat of a friend that just kept constantly moving their paddle up and down.

There really can be no perfect game as not everybody has the same taste. That's like claiming something is the perfect car.

Just for the record my all-time favorite game is Intelligent Qube on the original Playstation

I concede the point it does get boring if you play it for long periods, but we've had updated versions of Pong like that Wii Sports game which is glorified Pong.

I may have to muse over a new theory or just go back to plotting world domination.

Also if your game had modern graphics I would buy it, it sounds like a triumph of game development.

It was easy to pick-up and understand, and one of the best simulation games I've ever played. And it had user-creatable maps and non-linear gameplay!

I'm gonna say Asteroids. Pong is so boring and unbeliveably simple. That is not necessarily a good thing. First created by a bored Physicist on an oscilliscope, it may have been the first game ever, but games have improved so much over the years. They are now more immersive, realistic, longer, and funner. They got better like every other invention did.

STOP THE PRESSES!! I present to you the best game ever: Graviroids, Asteroids with Gravity
