Now I don't want to hear people go on about how mods are cheating because that's a lie. SOME mods are cheating, not all.

Anyway, my favorite would have to my median XL for Diablo II.

What's your favorite game mod?

Back in the day, when Half-Life mods were literally bursting the very seams of the internet, I wasted countless days and evenings on this fantastic single-player mod based loosely on Apocalypse Now. It was called Heart Of Evil and was thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable.

There was also a multi-player mod for HL (the name of which I can't remember - perhaps someone could help me with this?) which had real-world weapons and settings. When I couldn't find any servers to play on I would just create a private game and run around the maps on my own.

Good times.

I really enjoy all those mods that make Oblivion look that much prettier. It still looks better than most games coming out now!

Have you checked out the one that makes the combat more interesting? I think (iirc) it's called deadly reflexes. It adds a whole bunch of nastiness to the combat, critical strikes, instant kills, plus you can decapitate people with your sword. Probably the single most impressive mod I've ever come across.

I love "Fistful of Frags" and "Battlegrounds 2" for HL2. One is a superb wild west mod and the other is a War of Independence Mod (I play as the British, for obvious reasons ;-) )

Yea, it's pretty neat. Still, I never use it because I think the screams they added to NPC's decapitations are just silly. ;P

Well, GMod.
You can't top it.
Sure, you can make mods that make stuff look different in a game, or make new maps in that game, but GMod takes the game and gives you everything from it to play around with.
Awesome.

Personally, I find Insurgency absolutely amazing. It's a source mod. It makes one of the most realistic modern combat settings in my opinion. Not graphics-wise but the weapon recoil and the amount of damage you can take before dying is pretty realistic. The accuracy of some weapons may be a bit exaggerated but..yeah pretty much the best thing I've never paid for.

The ones that I make!

Realistically. OOO (Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul). An amazing experience.

Oh definitely, I agree with you. But the sheer amount of work that they put into that mod really blew my mind when I first installed it. Modifying artwork to be prettier than stock is never a wasted effort. But actually taking the time to modify the inner workings of the game as much as that mod is a whole different realm of dedication.

I don't play many games on PC so the only mod I have is to give Ocarina of Time better textures on PJ64.

If anybody here has ever heard of cortex command, you'd know that it has some pretty incredible mods. But that's because the entire game is just a HEAVILY moddable combat/physics simulator thing.
