Earth Defence Force 2017. Greatest game ever. Looks awful, has about 3 buttons and some unintentionally hilarious voice-acting, frame rate suffers wildly at times but it's fantastic fun, and one of the few games i've gone back to again and again.

@OP: It's kinda stupid to try and nominate the ONE best game because, fortunately, there's just too much variety. The best game in a genre is hard and constricting enough, let alone the best game in general. To racing fans, the best game this decade was most likely GT5, while to an FPS fan the options range from TF2 to ARMA II or BC2, for instances, depending on your particular flavour of FPS.
I can't tell you what the best game of the decade has been, I can tell you that the game that robbed most of my free time by far was TF2 (which was better before all of these recent bullshit hats and visual garbage), registering over 1100 hours since steam started recording.

Since its the decade. I'd have to nominate the Fallout 3 Series, Red Dead Redemption, World of Warcraft, Civilization 4 (NOT 5!), the Mass Effect Series, the Knights of the Old Republic Series, and Dirt 2. As to which one would win ... I couldn't even guess. It's too hard for me to decide.
