Starcraft 2
really?
no really?!?!
mostly because it was just a graphics bump up

anyway my suggestion is team fortress 2 as it best encouraged teamwork in a videogame.
Yes, really. I personally hated TF2 with a fiery passion, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

It were going on the basis that 2001-2010 is a whole decade then i'd have to say Mass Effect 2 or Red Dead Redemption. If it's not then... Final Fantasy X.

Aww, no majora's mask then...

I have one for each genre:

FPS: Halo 2. Sequial to the game that jump started the console FPS, popularized online gaming for consoles, and has one of the most badass theme songs ever. Of all time:

And I forgot the others XD MUSIC TOO AWSEOME!

An opinion contest.
How quaint.

Top 5:

5: DotA Allstars (via Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne)
-(As someone who was involved with the original DotA, it's quite surprising to see how it has grown. Pity the community is among the worst on the internet now, but that does not detract from how such a simple formula can create such depth and replayability. It started with Aeon of Strife in Starcraft 1, and evolved in Warcraft 3, so lets see how far it actually goes!)

4: Tribes 2
-(One of my all-time favorite shooters. Huge environments, fast gameplay, one of the best base management systems ever put into a game, and it's truly 3D in nature due to the flight mechanic. This series has all the elements for a truly epic game even today; pity it will never be realized due to commercial dominance.)

3: Deus Ex
-(philosophical debate, brilliantly well-told conspiracy stories, and genuine spy-action that lets you play the game how you want. This is level and gameplay design at some of its finest, and a welcome break from the dreaded "Hallways only" syndrome that so many shooters suffer from today).

2: Metroid Prime
-(If there were any game that can combine immersion, environment, and action into a perfect blend, it's Metroid Prime. While lacking the technical difficulty of other first-person-titles, it makes up for this by placing you directly into the shoes of Samus Aran, and makes it believable. The environments are astonishingly well-done and intricate, the exploration is quite fun, and the game manages to feel like Metroid while being something entirely new for the series. Compared to the games who rely exclusively on hi-res textures and bloom lighting [only to color everything in dogshit brown, gun-metal gray, or Beer-Bottle-Green anyway] today, it has genuine character)

1: Baldur's Gate 2 (Yes, I'm counting the entire BG2 story as in "the last ten years" due to how Throne of Baal is directly contiguous. If you have issues with this, then substitute Metroid Prime)
-(best Bioware RPG to date, and one of the best of all time. The number of viable class options are astonishing, and actually change the way you approach encounters. We are given a genuine douche of a villain whose motivations are well-defined if not twisted. The NPCs are largely memorable and fit into the world perfectly. Few games provide this level of depth for both gameplay and characters.)

Cant pick MvC3 despite playing the demo at the PAX...

Only because theyre severely underrated im going for...

Monster Hunter (series)
Unpleasntly hard yet ive somehow logged more than 2000 hours on the PSP versions over the 3 years ive been playing it. No, im not kidding.

Viewtiful Joe (series)
Despite being a sentai (i.e. Power Rangers) parody, its absolute fun and does not take itself seriously in any way.

Omaki
Just the kind of artistic style all games should have, to me the best game until i played Portal.

X3: Reunion ans Terran Conflict (series)
This is the only space sim ive ever seen that truly puts across just how large space can be. There are earlier games released within the decade but I havent played them.

I'm aware of the likelihood that one such thread has been probably made already, I actually searched for it on the forum, to make a poll out of the games everyone named, but since the search system is kinda bad (not anything in the escapist's direction, I've literally never seen a good forum search engine)I'm making my own.

Basically the idea is, name your favorite game of this decade, if the thread gets any popular, I'll be going over every single post to pick out the 8 most nominated games and make a poll on the 31st.

Series will be dealt with a special rule, you can nominate multiple games as long as they're in the same series (you may chose not to), if multiple games of the same series get into the top 8 they are merged together to avoid the already limited 8 spots being eaten up rapidly by certain series.

PS: If there has been such a thing already and I'm just going on your nerves by making another one, my apologies, if not, let the fun begin.

EDIT: Games with multiple expansions are all accumulated on one name, this is mostly needed for World of Warcraft.

EDIT 2: The thread uses a 1-10 system, so 2001-2010, some countries use 0-9, others use 1-10, this thread uses 1-10, just to clarify.

EDIT 3: You have one nomination and one nomination only (with the exceptions of series, which you can read up above), if you wish to nominate multiple games, you can do that too, but your vote will be split up into fractions, for example, nominating three games will give a third of a nomination to each one, over 5 nominations will not be considered.
example: "Poster #? has nominated Game 1, Game 2, Game 3, Game 4 and Series 1, each game get's 1/5 of a nomination and the games in the series get 1/5 each too.
Dear lord, I just went through one of these, turns out its Zelda majoras mask, i personally dont think it should be game of the decade but it was.

Relax, this isn't gamefaqs, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Escapist community is much more intelligent than the one on GFAQs, might be the most intelligent gaming community of all, but that's not the theme of this thread.

Anyways, those keeping track will notice that Majora's mask or zelda in general didn't have that many nominations so far. Throw your nomination in while you still can of course.

Its a tough call.

I would maybe argue WoW but I have had some pretty shitty times their so it probably wont make it.

Personally, it would probably come down to Fallout 3, or Minecraft. Leaning towards Minecraft.

wait, i thought 2010 was part of the 2010-2019 decade? didnt everybody do a best of decade last year at the end of 2009 in preparation for a new decade?

doesnt affect my choice either way, uncharted 2, best game of both decades, best game of all time.
