THE best game? I guess that would be OoT, though Banjo-Tooie is kicking me in the back of the head for excluding it. I can't really say.

For everyone that said Goldeneye you are only half right..... it was the best game... until Perfect Dark came along that is. It's a shame that the version for the 360 was garbage.

And you're only half right about Perfect Dark. Perfect Dark was the best multiplayer game on N64. GoldenEye was the best single player game. And it is a real shame that the version for 360 was as awful as it was. I only played the demo, but I swear the graphics were on par with the 64 version, and the gameplay was marginally worse.

I still have some very fond memories of GoldenEye multiplayer. My favorite moment was playing in the stacks with three of my friends against me. They all felt the need to gather together to keep a watch out for me, since I was considered the better player. They were standing around, I got on the upper catwalks and fired a few rounds at them with the RCP90, they started yelling at each other saying the other one shot them, and ended up killing themselves, and I picked off the winner. Ah good times.

Perfect Dark.
Once you got everything unlocked, marvelous party game.
It is even better than...Halo.
Damn Straight. Forget forge all you need is a little tedious memorisation and you'll know where the weapons spawn at.
Hell, I wasn't talking about that.
I was more or less going on the larger variety of weapons.
The second mode.
Slayer rockets which I could control.
Laptop guns: Sentry mode.
Slayer rockets which I could control.
Poison knives

Why can't I have that now?

Oh and one other thing Perfect dark had over Halo. One word- Bots. Perfect Dark wins.

Honestly though this has been discussed so many times and we're never going to decide. Three of the disputed best games EVER MADE are on the n64 (Mario 64, OOT, Goldeneye) and to pick one out of the 64 library is just too hard.

Personally I see Goldeneye and Perfect Dark as two halves of the ULTIMATE first person shooter. I also think we need more pilotwings love. That game taught me a game could be overwhelmingly peaceful and still incredibly fun.

And just to stir up some arguments, I'll go as far to say that Diddy Kong Racing absolutely CREAMED Mario Kart 64. Mostly -again- because of bots, in battle mode.

I guess I'm the only one who finds having a virtual farm life extremely fun.

I vote for Harvest Moon 64. I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and felt like I absolutely had to play this, I spent days planning out which crops I was going to grow and such.

Ooh, I'll have to glove-slap you on that one. I never enjoyed Diddy Kong Racing, neither solo nor multiplayer. It just didn't have the solidity and visceral satisfaction of MK64 (for me).

Conker's Bad Fur Day, probably one of the most underappreciated gems on the N64.
This game was awesome.
Funnily enough I didn't like it much. I got it on a N64 binge shortly before the current generation of consoles started being launched, and while I didn't dislike it, it just didn't quite live up to the rave reviews for me, so I never got more than a few hours into it. That's the danger of hype, I suppose.

Just so you don't think it was the oldness that put me off, at around the same time I was having a blast with Star Wars Racer, both Zeldas, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and even Bomberman 64 (the multiplayer is fun in a chaotically stupid way). But not Banjo-Kazooie. Maybe I'm just not that into 3D adventure/platformers.

If I had to pick a favourite... well, either one of the Zelda games is a strong contender for Best Game Ever (both personally and in many published lists I've seen). Aside from those, Star Wars Racer is absolutely ace. It still gives you a great rush to play it. I think it's more fun than any Need for Speed game or hyper-realistic racing sim; in fact I've yet to play a racer I enjoyed more.

A weapon that i think was underappreciated was the Double Pheonix...with secondary mode you could beast anyone...if they try to slayer you you simply blow up their missiles as they exit the launcher and the explosions where small enough to use them in confined areas like in the tunnels of Area 52 (the multiplayer map)
