Portal 2. I have a feeling that Skyrim will blow that away pretty damn quickly though.

Captcha: elpfria Research
yes master, the elpfria plant is a deadly plant, we're doing our best to unlock its secrets.

Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings, best game I have played in a very long time. It was better then the first one in terms of combat but the story i found was not as strong,

Also Hunted: The Demons Forge was super good too

The Witcher 2, definitely. Absolutely the best game so far this year. Portal 2 is a very solid second place, though.

Yeah, gonna go with basically everyone else and say Portal 2.

BUT if you want a game to have just large deals of fun with, get Terraria. Get together a small group of friends and hop on Skype. I haven't had this much simplistic fun with a game since my childhood(and Minecraft).

InFamous 2 had great writing, and was lengthy (around 14-20 hours and there is DLC), but suffered graphically, plus the camera is always in a weird spot, never quite right, where it was in the first one. though the side missions became tedious, as they were all copies or other side missions, usually something involving the clone brushed minibosses showing up a lot
The addition of User made content allows for a lot more content for the future, but the actual campaign had to be shortened because of it. (plus the UGC levels kind of suck anyway)

Crysis 2 had a simple plot that dealt with very complicated things, like a nano-suit with deep layers doing some mumbo-jumbo and I don't want to spoil it because it will ruin it for you.
But Crysis 2 did have awesome graphics, like it makes everything else look like shit. the level of detail was astounding on basically everything. it had neat gameplay, but was laughably easy due to the upgrade system. Crysis 2's single player was approximately 6-7 hours if you can breeze through it.
One thing in Crysis 2's favor is that you can punch aliens in the face, kick cars at them, beat them to death with keyboards, or their own allies. the level of fun you can have with the level clutter is awesome!

I was thinking about grabbing that, but I can't decide whether to wait for the 360 port, or play it on medium settings on my laptop
so better graphics in one hand or playing it earlier in the other

Minecraft?
Everyone should own it. Good to burn 5 minutes if your waiting for a friend, or to spend 50 minutes if hes already on it.

Played Crisis 2. It was very good- I was impressed- but not sure if it could be called best game of the year.

Brink is fun on the P.C., except for the horrible NPC A.I., but Brink is crap on the consoles.

Haven't played Portal 2 yet.

Puzzle Agent is good.

Have you tried E.Y.E.? It is on Steam right now.

Dead Space 2.

Think of it like portal with more violence and decapitations. Seriously, nothing else really compares to the experience, and the multiplayer is like Left 4 Dead on crystal meth.

Portal 2 for me. It doesn't have much replayability though; something to consider.

Witcher 2 comes in second place. It's pretty demanding on your PC though.

It still looks pretty damn good on medium settings, and the 360 version will never look as good as the PC version on high settings. However, it'll probably look a little better on 360 than on your laptop.

the problem with portal 2 is that ive heard its really short
Depends what you're using as a yardstick. It's hell short compared to most RPGs, for instance. However, it's longer than the single-player campaigns in games like CoD. And the co-op multiplayer adds a lot more length, with totally different puzzles and story to the single-player.

5 minutes? Even (only) 50 minutes? Good luck with that. It's more like "Oh, I'll just hop on for half an hour. Wait, why's the sun coming up?"

Well just in case you weren't sold on the last five thousand comments, I recommend Portal 2. Also Team Fortress 2 is free if you wanna try that.

I would suggest that you wait for the 360 version. The pretty graphics is a pretty big feature after all; people don't call it the prettiest game ever for no reason. Also, I've heard that combat feels smoother with a controller.

I think so far LA Noire has been the best game, but honestly the best has yet to come, in my opinion. With all the games coming out from October to December, I think one of those games will be the GOTY.

I'm surprised to say it, but so far its been Infamous 2. I felt that the story was far more compelling than the average sandbox game (especially if you pretend the evil options don't exist). Each mission felt relevant to the overall storyline, as oppossed to games like GTA and Asssassin's Creed (favorites of mine, dont get me wrong) where most of the missions felt like filler between the big plot points. Also, the gameplay was fun, varied, and zapping people is great. Always.

Honorable mention goes to Cave Johnson and Who Knows Where, for the best voice overs ever (in Portal 2 and Bastion, respectively).
